When I big chopped, I wore cream-only or leave-in with mousse wash and gos and finger coils from TWA through the awkward stage. I never started twisting my hair until it was at medium length.

I currently am using a leave in and my natures little secret cream or my pattern beauty cream.

@@rosieamelia5955 Have you ever tried wearing your hair out in a wash and go with the leave in and cream or in finger coils instead of twisting? It is clear that you don't consider twists on awkward length hair to be as flattering as twists on medium/long hair so I understand your discomfort with wearing the twists in public without a hair covering, whether a scarf or wig. Forgive me, I am an advocate for wearing ones hair out confidently no matter the length but I am aware not everyone shares that belief.

@miniminott48 so I have been using a leave in and a cream and that results in a mini fro because that’s what I get using those stylers 😆. I don’t particularly like finger coils, it’s just not flattering on my hair, well I don’t feel beautiful wearing them. I also am not feeling using gel just yet. So in the area I live 🤣🤣🤣 if you are not strong you would live in a wig. Literally black women make you feel uncomfortable wearing your hair, black men makes you feel uncomfortably wearing your hair short. It’s very interesting, but most women I am around are either relaxed , they wear wigs 100% of the time or wear weaves. Only a few wear their natural hair ( one other person 😅) and I encouraged her to wear her hair.

@@rosieamelia5955 Oh, ok. I understand. I have a different experience with cream. I just think you have beautiful hair and I don't want you hiding it. Do whatever makes you comfortable at this hair length.

@@miniminott48 Similar. I had a fro-hawk last year with bald shaved sides....I didn't twist the sides until about 9 months later. I was so free as a bird!!! Detangling and styling cut in half. lol! 😅😅😅😅

Thanks for sharing Rosie. The red wig goes well with your complexion. Have you ever done an updo with it? I love wigs. I also like that red multi colored scarf.

As someone who's gone through the awkward phase as well, I found that wearing headband wigs that look as natural as possible in curl pattern kept me from stressing about how my hair looked until it grew out. You're also at a length where you can get away with putting curl cream on your hair and swiping your hand around your head ( it won't take your hair out like that sponge brush does but gives you the same effect)to give it that short dredd look. Add a decorative headband or hair pins to add as a finishing touch. If you don't want the baby hair on the wig can you cut them off or pluck them out?

That’s a nice idea. I actually have a head band wig . I have been using my hands to style my sides. I actually just used my hands to style my hair, I do a circular motion with my hands all over

A wash n go is not an option for a nice style? My hair was cut several months ago. The shaping and health of the tight curls is wonderful for me. I’m confused about why a wig is something that makes one feel cute

Linda from having this horrible experience that left me with my hair in this state I am sure I have the right to not want to wear wash and go until I feel comfortable. I wear my natural hair 99.99 % of the time. I only wear a wig if my hair isn’t dry to take down because I don’t want to use a hooded dryer. For some people they don’t have any options but to wear wigs and they have to accept that and feel beautiful. I am grateful I can confidently rock my hair even when people with our own melanin stare and follow me around in the store and make remarks about the length of my hair and that in fact I should cover it with a wig. And there is nowhere I mentioned wearing wigs made me feel pretty, please get your information right before you make such remarks. I feel beautiful with my hair as it grows from my scalp, BUT I have the right to wear My hair as I feel comfortable!

I'm always cutting my hair so it stays in the awkward length a lot. Yeah I can flat twist, cornrow and finger coil. One thing I do is that I make my partings more uniform. I'm autistic so it's just easier for me than random parts. So I have about 20 sectioning clips and the parting comb with the gap at the front. I'm fairly good because I never used edge control to part. Just 2 mirrors. Of course, it's a weekly practice to get better. I also wear hair pieces, half wigs and clip-ins that match my 4c curl pattern. This is where Pinterest and KZbin are helpful when you search "awkward length hairstyles. Also my stylist keeps it in a shape that is easy to manage especially when you have different parts of your hair growing at different paces! Hugs you got this.

I appreciate that, I love that you are rocking your hair in a cut that many of us run away from. I am currently enjoying my short cut, and even though initially the stares were difficult, I continued to show up and ignore.
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 Ай бұрын
@@rosieamelia5955 Hugs Sorry about the stares. I live in London, England where people men and women rock wild styles so when people stare at me, it's usually followed by a smile and them telling me they love something about my appearance. I shaved my hair into a Fro-hawk last year and all my colleagues ( of all races and ages) loved it. I guess I have some confidence because I grew up in a black-majority country where I had a female teacher who shaved her head bald and all the boys fancied her!!! Sometimes we just need to do what makes us comfortable to get through the day/week/month and I'm definitely not averse to throwing on a wig or a scarf when my mind can't concentrate on styling my hair. I appreciate you still making the content for those struggle days that everyone faces.

Rosie, I have been natural for 12 years and I have desired to have long natural hair. However, I keep running out of patients with the grow out. The most I have kept my length is two years. So am with you. The awkward stage is challenging TO ME-because I like cute styles.

@@rosieamelia5955 I hate to disturb and come back commenting again. You popped up in my feed earlier and I just clicked the video because it is relatable to me as said. However, I didn’t know this was you-meaning the lady who had troubles due to following the black girl curls methods (heard your name from Narota-sure I spelled it wrong). I followed them too, but a few months in, I went back to my routine of deep conditions, leave-ins and a bit of oil or butter on my ends. I just couldn’t do it any longer. I did pick up a few tips from them, but I never liked my cut. Last time, I got my normal tapered cut by one of their trained stylists and my hair was so uneven in various spots based on them doing that type of cut. Just awful, left the whole method alone in 2022.
