I guess the reason why ,,Super Resuce " wasn ' t in season 3 was the bugdet .We all know the crew didn ' t have the budget to finish the The flying Scotsman and this was also the reason why they change the story of ,,Tender Engine ". The crew also didn ' t have the bugdet to make the 2 diesels.

Personally I don't think having Super Rescue as a goodbye to Henry would have worked. The Henry in Super Rescue is a very different Henry to the CGI version. I like your ideas to adapt it for the classic series. Having Gordon take on the train could quite easily lead into a slightly changed adaptation of Gordon goes foreign. As for it's placement I think it would have to be later on in Series 4. Great video as always , can't wait for the next one.

Literally if D199 and 7101 were featured on television, I’d be so happy because this story has always been my favorite especially since D199 is my favorite character and one of my first wooden railway trains!

What a very creative adaptation for Super Rescue! D261/Class 40 was an easy pick with everyone, but I would have never thought to use Derek as Bear's stand in character. It would definitely give Derek's prop more to do.

I would have adapted it as a part of Thomas and the Royal Engine if that episode was an hour and a half film, with Gordon in D199's place, contemplating on leaving Tidmouth Sheds to do some soul searching and pushing himself since his two buddies from the start had left the sheds and he is still sour about one of them not having a good enough reason to leave. His boiling point being his safety valve bursting when he goes over the speed limit and nearly has an accident, leading to Henry having to bring him to Knapford Station and them having a conversation about a "steam team". The ending would be Tidmouth Sheds becoming a hotel for other engines on the island as Thomas and Gordon both talk to each other about what they had gone through in the film, bookending their relationship in a polar opposite to the first episode of the television series as Percy, James, Edward, Toby and Henry watch them and are happy for the both of them.

I have thought of a new take for Super Rescue. Season 17’s episode, Henry’s Hero seems like the right opportunity to adapt the story. What I would do is just rewrite the episode with the context of Super Rescue. The first act happens just as it is, Hiro and Henry are taking a long train to the docks, then they realize that they took on bad coal. Henry decides to give up and return to the shed, while Hiro continues on with the work, taking the one half of the train first. Then, on the way back, Henry comes across Paxton who had broken down while taking his load to the docks, and agrees to help him out. All the while, Hiro is pulling his second train but ends up getting stuck on Gordon’s Hill. That is until Henry arrives while pulling Paxton behind him. So, Henry is able to rescue both Hiro and Paxton, and they reach the docks with their trains on time. And that’s how I would rewrite Henry’s Hero into Super Rescue. Though, any diesel character can be used for Spamcan’s slot.

I’ve actually been thinking about this myself, I honestly think that Calling All Engines would’ve been an excellent time to introduce Bear and D199! The events of Super Rescue could’ve easily been part of the plot for that movie. After Thomas and Mavis convince the Steamies and Diesels to work together, things go semi smoothly, but there’s still tension. Then the incident happens (Bear and D199 being introduced earlier) and Henry and Bear’s cooperation is what inspires both the steamers and diesels to truly put things aside and the alliance truly forms! Also, about Scotsman’s tenders in Tenders for Henry. If I had been in charge, I would’ve skipped adapting that story altogether and used the budget money to make Isabel for Escape!

The learning segments, yeah they’re super boring, 2. 11 year old me got conned into thinking it would be a sequel to TATMR, which it really isn’t, Also about Isabel, her and Dulcie’s absence is one of the RWS vs TVS differences that’s always rubbed me the wrong way. Case in point, I bought two Hornby auto coaches to go along with my Bachmann Oliver and Toad and represent Isabel and Dulcie.

For the CGI, I would adapt Super Rescue for TV as identical to the original work as possible, and include unused characters (as minor characters, similar to the international minor characters) and events from the three other stories from the book. Of course it will fit perfectly for the remaining season (the real season 25).

I think they could’ve easily still had Bear in the show since he did have a lot of missed potential as a character and now Sodor resident to write for. As for Spamcan his role in the show definitely could’ve been taken by D261 who could’ve also taken Old Stuck Up’s role if they ever adapted the latter’s story (makes sense for just one to take all the roles of all 3 of them since they pretty much had the same roles). The Works Diesel also definitely wouldn’t need to be introduced.

Yeah. His role could easily be filled in by Bear for two reasons: 1. They both look a lot alike. 2. They were both nice and friendly diesels, and were easily able to befriend James, despite his hatred of diesels.

I imagine Double Teething Troubles takes place in 1965 as a Clayton / Paxman diesel is trialled on Edward's branch line and as a banking engine on Gordon's Hill while Edward is at the Works as he doesn't appear in this S5 episode. Double Teething Troubles is the only S5 episode that fits in with the RWS books. The Clayton / Paxman diesels actually have TWO engines, one either side of their centre cab. I imagine "Heroes" takes place after the events after the RWS book "Thomas and the Twins".

This is a really good of an idea, and it gives me an idea for another railway series story of “deep freeze” in James and the Diesel engines, I’m gonna say it here, this episode starts similar to old stuck up, where James makes a rude remark about bear, but here, it’ll be Derek instead, however, afterwards, Derek feeling hurt about James comment, crashes into the signal box with the double bogey truck, it’s here that after the fat controller talks to Derek, he talks about James to Boco and Fergus, which the two had listed other events, being that the time James was rude to boco in Buzz Buzz, and about a time where he had argued with Fergus about the affects diesel cause on the railway (that could be a whole other episode entirely before this one), then we cut back to James where he fills with too much water, and all it freezes on the mainland, like how deep freeze originally played out, soon the message gets to Boco, where he goes to rescue james, after he lefts, Derek talks about the engines motivations about diesels, and even his own back on the mainland, Fergus, being an engine that had had a well, interesting experience with diesels, talks to Derek about points of views, where everyone sees things differently, after the talk, the get a phone call stating that Boco had to go help pull an emergency goods train, and with Fergus working on rail maintenance for the week, Derek is sent to collect james and rescue him, que the rest of deep freeze were james talks to Derek, and realizes that not all diesels are bad at all. Here we learn two things, is that everyone has a different Point of View, and that not everyone is as bad as we think, that’s my interpretation on “deep freeze” if it was in the TV series, (I think it could’ve been in like season 7, maybe even season eight) I hope you like this! I just came up with it a few hours ago. Also you earned a subscriber too lol

I find it great how you made that out of 2 diesels that almost no one likes that is know of. Class 40 is my favourite character and my friends favourite is Derek. We are always arguing snitch one is better and this would be a perfect way to make us agree they are both good.

This was a good vid! hopefully this leads to other ideas for RWS adaptations, cause TBH I think there are some interesting stories never to be seen on TV, mainly some christopher awdry stuff, where even though yeah his stories are less iconic, I still think they present interesting concepts.

I would have adapted it as straight as possible, likely by doing it in a later season and likely at the expense of another episode's funding that required its own models (there are plenty, after all). D199 I would have kept from the books, by re-using the diesel from Bowled Out with a new coat of paint and a small number of new faces to distinguish him. After all, it's not like that model was going to see use again otherwise. Bear I would meanwhile have made new, possibly reusing another diesel's chassis to save funds (likely Daisy's). He does run the problem of being another "only appears once" character however, so I would then have to push to include him more often and flesh out his character more later on down the line. Assuming that I did not perform similar adjustments to ensure Tender Engines was done properly with an actual Flying Scotsman, then I would have made minor story adjustments like those in the video regarding his parts being substituted out. As soon as the episode was over I would then either scrap or sell off D199's model as there is an exactly 0% chance of ever needing him or his original form again, and it would help to recoup some costs. Bear meanwhile could also be potentially modified and re-used later to become one of the Peel Godred engines, from which resin casts could be made to duplicate his body.

I adapted Super Rescue into a revamped version of the Classic Series - series 1-4 to be exact. Super Rescue is in a five part special consisting of Tenders for Henry/Tender Engines; Bluebells of England/Stepney's Special/Thomas and Stepney; Crossed Lines; Train Stops Play; Bowled Out and then Super Rescue is the final story. Bear is introduced earlier on so we can see more of his personality.

Very nice! Seems quite like how I might've done it. Jayracer 11 did something very similar for Trainz, though he used City of Truro instead of Gordon. A few months ago, I actually wrote a loose adaptation of Super Rescue in a manner similar to Faulty Whistles from Season 6, which is considered a loose adaptation of Mike's Whistle. As it has different characters and elements, my version has Derek in Bear's role while a repaint of BoCo's model with a new face representing a new diesel has D199's role. He's based off that one background diesel from "Escape" in the RWS.

I think the best way to adapt Super Rescue would be in series 4, for my take on this adaption it would replace mind that bike because it wasn't really a good episode to end the season on. So for the props, D199 would just be a repainted D261 and Bear would be a new prop because of season 4's big budget. The story would be changed to have City of Turo take the train at the end and have Vicarstown be replaced with Crovan's Gate. The locations would be reused ones from the season except for the crossing because they can make by just reusing other assets for that location.

I think your idea of adapting Super Rescue in Series 5 with Class 40 and Derek in Bear and Diesel 199's places are a great idea! If anything, I would put Super Rescue in Series 3 and place it between Tenders for Henry/Tender Engines and Escape. Bear and Diesel 199 would be introduced and Flying Scotsman (if Series 3 had a bigger budget to finish his model) would still appear when Henry pulls the two diesels into the big station. I wouldn't change any elements in how I would adapt Duper Rescue in the Allcroft Era.

If I were to adapt this story, I would probably do what you did, with a couple of changes. Mainly both Derek and Bear would meet in this story. Derek would be in the shed with James and Duck when Bear and D261 roll in. After bowler makes his comments about him being reliable, Derek is about to tell him off when Bear speaks up and tells him off. Derek is taken aback, but still isn't sure if he can trust Bear. Bear is a hymek, and Derek is a class 17 diesel. Back on the mainland, hymeks and class 28s were often rude to class 17s, because of how they were treated by engines like D261. The next day d261 breaks down with a long heavy goods, and Bear breaks down pulling the limited, but Bear breaks down near elsbridge, and d261 breaks down near maron. Derek comes and rescues Bear and says,"So much for being more reliable than us 17s." Bear chooses not to respond to the insult and just asks Derek to help him get to vicarstown station so the passengers can catch their connection to the mainland. This takes Derek by surprise, but agrees. He struggles on for miles, even barely, making over Gordon's hill, but then breaks down not long after passing Henry and d261. Henry then moves both trains with Derek and Bear keeping the breaks off. Henry struggles into cronk, which where control told them to go. Murdoch takes D261 and the goods away to the mainland, and BoCo takes the passengers home. Sir Topham Hatt is about to tell Bear off, but Derek steps in and defends Bear, and apologizes to him for his comments and why he said them. Bear of course forgives him and Sir Topham allows Bear to stay as another mixed traffic engine. That night Henry meats Bear, Derek, and BoCo at the dieselworks, and he tells them about his struggles with his old shape. He then makes a group with the three diesels, calling themselves the Faulty Phoenixes, because when they failed, they rose up from the ashes and made something better out of themselves. I did this so the super rescue wouldn't just be Henry showing how far he's come, but Derek too. Plus I like the idea of engines making special groups on the railway. And to expand Derek's character beyond the generic good guy character.

I think that Super Rescue shouldn't be a send off for Henry, however, as I view Season 21 as a finale season to the show (If you cut out A Shed for Edward), it would have been a nice to end Henry's character arc and see how far Henry has come since Season 1. But, I think that it would have been so awesome if they had adapted the story during the Model Series. To me, the Model Series (S1-12 and TATMR) has WAY better charm in it, not to mention it does better when it comes to playing with tone. Awesome idea on how it could have worked in the show by the way, mate!😊

What about Boco as D7101 (Bear). Also I would have done a full take on the Railway series using traditional animation and the art style is similar to John T Kenney style. You will have more freedom with it. Won't have to spend thousands of money on constructing models. You can draw everything out instead. It is what I would do.

super rescue couldn't be adapted into a series 3 episode due to budget constraints, in 2015 sam wilkinson wanted to bring bear and possibly d199 to cgi but it didn't happen

You know what I suggest to adapt on TV is the mountain engines they never been part of the model and CGI series now the only way to adapt these characters is to have some couple of changes like mr. walter richards for instance instead of manager he would be the controller of his mountain railway you know like being in charge or what not next we have is the engines now I would make one change to them and that is getting rid of their faces on the back of the caps and let their drivers be on the lookout when they’re coming downhill lord harry/patrick story must stay the same like in the books for television and godred will still have his accident in long ago times and that’s my ideas to adapt for TV what do you think does this make a great idea.

Yeah. There was a mixup because in the script, Derek was referred to as his original name, Paxman, so you can see why they probably thought it was just Paxton’s name misspelt.

I like this version, but I think in the first place “Double Teething Troubles” should have just been scrapped from season 5. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fantastic episode, but Derick was never used again after Season 5, so if Super Rescue was adapted instead, then Bear could have been introduced instead of Derick, which would have resulted in a character that most likely would have been used in later stories.

I like your adaption. I actually made an adaption of the story a while back with the strict guidelines of creating the story as if it was made during season two. I love this. Good idea using Derek and Class 40 as Bear and D199. I have a suggestion. Are there any TUGS episodes. You would adapt into Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. I can imagine Jinxed, Quarantine, Up River and Ghosts would be ideal.
