The Best Henry Episodes

Henry's Forest has always been my favourite Henry-centric episode. Not only does it show a side of Henry that makes him stand out from Gordon and James, but you also feel for him when he has to take the logs to the timber mill and he's sad to lose part of his favourite place. I also like Henry's Hero mainly because of the dynamic between Henry and Hiro. Two gentle giants who persevere in spite of the odds. Wish we could've seen them together more often.

The Flying Kipper has always been my favourite Henry centred episode. With Haunted Henry being a second. In fact, my dad likes the Flying Kipper too. Mainly for the main theme for the Kipper and the lighting for the night time and sunrise scenes. Speaking of Henry and the Elephant being made into a spooky episode. Someone actually did do that. I believe the user who did it was Ryansock.

"Coal and Other Stories" VHS video was my only experience of Season 1 when I was a child, so therefore I watched all three of Henry's latter episodes "Coal", "The Flying Kipper" and "Whistles and Sneezes". Then, some years later, I got "Spooks and Surprises" VHS video with 9 Season 5 episodes including "Haunted Henry" - boy, that episode certainly gives thrills and chills. :)

I think what makes "Henry's Hero" special is that Henry wins the fight against bad coal for the first time. In the previous "Henry vs bad coal" episodes he always lost the fight and needed help from special coal. And in the last "Henry vs bad coal" episode he won the fight.

Excellent video mate. Watching this made me want to rethink the times I watched my Thomas tapes growing up. There were some I didn’t look forward to but I always knew the best was yet to come. The Flying Kipper and Henry’s Forrest are probably my two favorite Henry episodes.

My top two are The Flying Kipper and Henry's Forest. For The Flying Kipper, it's not just about the atmosphere and the music. It's about how Henry had been long struggling with something that was holding him back for a long time and was finally able to overcome it like he said in the video here. ^^ For Henry's Forest, not only does it have a beautiful landscape (and barring from what Awdry had said about hating the episode.), but it had something else everyone could resonate with. Everyone had something special in their lives, whether it's a place, a person, or something else. To go through a loss like that is heartbreaking. But there are others (family and friends) that are there for you no matter what, especially when it helps recover or accept what was lost. Plus, I can't help but tear up each time watching. I'm almost 30, and this series still has a special place in my heart.

Henry is such a genuinely sweet guy complete with emotional baggage and I just love 💚 him so much! My favorite episode of big green 🟢 is definitely Henry’s Forest 🌳 purely for its ground breaking orchestral soundtrack. I always feels so relaxed when I listen to its music. My favorite CGI Henry episode is Henry’s Hero. Even if we don’t get to watch Super Rescue adapted in the TV Series, this episode is the closest we get for a Super Rescue adaptation.

I always remember the episode of Henry's forest from season 3, that hart warming moment truing the storm were Henry was worried about the animals in the forest and heading down looking all destroyed when He saw it. And then seeing him all brighten up after it was all new again.

All these episodes are bangers... but if I had to choose just one honourable mention, it'd probably be "Big Strong Henry" from Season 10. Let's face it, most seasons after the classic run were not kind to Henry at all, and the HIT era was no exception. But I genuinely liked this one. We get an episode that focuses on Henry and Gordon's relationship/rivalry and Henry comes out on top using his brain over brawn. It also has a pretty awesome crash (and Michael Brandon does a little ad-lib during it too in the US version). It also makes for a nice little pairing if you watch this, followed by "It's Good To Be Gordon", showing both sides of the two big engines' relationship.

I find Henry to be a pretty great character, he may not be my favourite from when I was younger. But throughout the years, his name has always stuck out to me, probably because my Dad’s name irl is Henry as well lol I feel like Henry breaks the stereotype of just because he’s bigger, doesn’t mean he should act like Gordon and James throughout the seasons. His kind nature and soul for the natural environment is very sweet, but also the fact that I feel like personally he changed once he got rebuilt, just like his personality changed. Some people may not like the anxiety driven Henry, and to be fair, I’m one of those because they did with Edward and Toby which is not great at all. I personally feel like Henry could also have anxiety due to his past trauma of the flying kipper accident and maybe even the tunnel, but that’s just my opinion though :)

I already knew which Henry episodes you were going to chose... 😊💚 Henry along with James have the best sad faces in The Model Series. Henry has the most depressing sad face while James has the biggest frown on his face. "Henry and the elephant" and "Bulls Eyes" scared me as a kid... I was afraid that Champion was going to charge at Daisy in fast stop motion and the same for the elephant with Henry and the workman when they went into the tunnel... I think Ryansock made a horror version of "Henry and the elephant". "Haunted Henry" also scared me as a kid. The different shots of the trucks from there and along with several others that include them with different expressions made me uncomfortable... The Flying Kipper: What is more important to you? Your cocoa or the relief that you're still alive after having a green tender engine plowing into the back of the train that you're in? Henry's forest: "Rule 55. U can't do it!" >:( The sad story of Henry: At least when you're scared of this episode as a kid you knew that Henry was going to be let out eventually. When did you start a Patreon?

I know during Henry's built that he was a mix between an Antlantic and Pacific (which make him Gordon's half brother). Due to his small firebox, he can't make the heat so Welsh coal was the only option (until his class and rebuilt). If he had kept his old shape and Welsh coal, how would he fair?

Something i notice about a lot of Henry episodes is that his episodes are usually way more mature, dark, and handles topics that dont really get covered with most characters. Like his two season 5 leads both involve tension building up to an inevitable night crash with an underrated theme to accompany both. The coal saga deals with him not giving up despite everything getting in life. Henrys forest deals with appreciating finer things in life and the sadness of losing it. And his debut deals with actions having consequences and taking advantage of a second chance when moment arises. Also now that i think about it in season 5 both trouble with trees and something in the air deal with Thomas doing messy work at the beginning, James/henry being full of it and not listening to danger on the rails, karma biting them back, mature season 5 thomas comforting them at end despite them being an ass

The flying kipper: I think Dalby's poor illustrations make the episode look FAR better. The sad story of Henry: I think Henry deserve to be bricked up in the tunnel. he only cared about him self and not his passengers, if I was the fat controller I would've punish Henry like that to. people who think that Henry's punishment was inhumane and the fat controller was being evil for punishing Henry are ignorant, and stupid. Henry's punishment was justified, he was the one who was being selfish. fortunately, Henry redeemed himself, and Henry couldn't have been a better character.

Admittedly, due to my personal bias, my favorite Thomas Seasons(or, the ones I want to revisit more and more)are Seasons 1-3 and Season 6. Because of this, I cannot name my ten favorites. I can, however, go for five. 1 The Flying Kipper: To no one's surprise, I love this episode. Now, my love for it has less to do with the fact that it's unique, but it's more for a personal side. I used to get up REALLY early, as in, when it was still plenty dark out, and the Sun had yet to come up yet, and I'd go places with my Mom. Those are some of my favorite memories with my Mom, and this episode reminds me of those. Of course, I'd also watch Thomas a lot with my Mom too, so overall, it's one I cherish. I won't go into why this episode is great, just know that that is why I love this episode. 2 Coal: Along with The Flying Kipper, and for no more reason than this was part of my first Thomas DVD set, A Big Day for Thomas and Other Stories, Coal is a fun story. Admittedly, despite never suffering from anything that held ME back personally, I still felt empathy for Henry. Nowadays, as a writer, I relate Henry's struggle to my own as a writer, and not having inspiration to write. If nothing else, however, this episode is great, and I will forever appreciate it for being part of the DVD set that got me to love this series. 3 Haunted Henry: I had totally forgotten this episode existed to be honest, but I do think I agree. It's a good scary episode, and one that I, personally, enjoy a lot more than certain entries like Duncan Gets Spooked. The ending is a wholesome one, and the suspense is most excellent. I love the building up of us seeing a little more of the station, which I guess adds to the suspense? It's a fun episode, and I love it. 4 Whistles and Sneezes: Another fun episode, but one I wasn't made aware of during my childhood. Despite this, I still think this episode is a lot of fun, and both sequences feel like something out of a dream. Despite this, the effects are brilliant, and I'm glad that, for one of the only times so far in this show, that kids are shown as being jerks(not saying i want this all the time, but admittedly, i think this makes for a brilliant enemy for an episode like this). I'm also a fan of the stuffed up face for Henry, and I think it's hilarious. 5 The Deputation: WHOA WHOA WHOA! THIS IS A DONALD AND DOUGLAS EPISODE, AIN'T IT? Well, it is, but in my opinion, this episode, and the Twins remaining on the island, wouldn't have happened without Henry being stuck in the snow. In a way, thanks to Henry, the problem of the Twins' situation would never have been brought up. While not a Henry-focused episode, it was thanks to him that the inciting incident of the episode played out. In my opinion, this is just as deserving of being a Henry episode as the others. kinda cheating at the end but whatever, have a good day!

Henry & the Elephant was actually based on an real incident where an elephant blocked a tunnel according to an Indian railwayman. Also, you think Henry's sad face scared you as a kid - I used to be terrified by all the engines' shocked faces in childhood. As for The Sad Story of Henry - while it was the subject of critical debate by modern parents cause they don't watch or understand 2-parters (wait till they see Donald, Douglas or Duke's episodes), however I do know that originally when writing the first stories, Awdry had no intention to have all three take place on the same railway (which means Henry could've been a story from another railway) - it was only when the publishers commissioned him to write a conclusion to him, Gordon and Edward hence the second story. Had it not been written, then the story would still be subject to even more critiesem. Aside from those, Henry throughout the entire show has some ups and downs but is still an enterprising engine through and through hence he is everyone's fan-favorite Thomas character - I honestly wish I include him on my top 10 favorite Thomas character list (I might put him in second place and have Thomas and Percy tied as my 7th favorites) - another reason cause as a kid (and I dunno if I'm the only one) but tender engines just always fascinate me (even from my childhood train VHS and DVDs they were always featured in).
