All advice welcome: I am considering a switch to tech sales but I'm torn because I'm a few years away from gaining enough experience as a data engineer to return anytime without starting from scratch if sales doesn't work out. On the flip side, there are lucrative opportunities in sales now, and some friends are already thriving. I'm contemplating seizing the moment, but it feels like a hasty decision without a career safety net. Any thoughts?

This is why i need the job. 1) You can work anywhere in the world - I'll be living in Thailand this September. 2) Sales skills - need those 3) The pay - I need the capital so i can be a video game dev 4) The time - Tech Sales reps work around 4-6 hours a day What's your thoughts on this list.

Follow the path that's most important to you. You have to choose your own path but creating a business and learning sales go hand and hand. You have to learn how to sell.

It’s quite hard to do. This is because tech sales requires you to understand the local market dynamics. You also need to make a lot of local calls to prospects. Let’s also not forget physical demos/ networking events with potential clients etc. It is really hard/ almost impossible to have a tech sales role and live in another country.
