*Thanks for the shoutout, Luke!* I totally agree with everything you said in the video, especially about Python. In my experience as a Data Analyst, I rarely needed Python for actual analysis... MS Excel (best tool ever 😍) usually did the trick. But I used Python (and good old VBA) more for automating tasks, like managing spreadsheets, building internal tools and creating interactive charts. That said, I think learning programming is still super useful. Understanding concepts like variables and loops makes tools like Power Query and Power Automate much easier to use since they rely on similar ideas. And yeah, AI tools these days make writing and debugging code so much simpler. Wish I'd had those tools when I wrote my first line of VBA code back in 2012 👴

Heck yeah, totally agree with your point of how learning programming can be useful; especially for automation. And yeah wish I had ChatGPT when I was learning to code.. would have saved so many hours banging my head on the desk.

That's so true what he said that most of your co-workers don't understand a programming language. All of the jobs that I had in finance/accounting , none of my co-workers knew nothing about programming. So if had done report in Pandas/Python, they wouldn't even looked at it and trust the numbers, and; therefore, I would have to do the entire report again but in Excel.

Hopefully AI will enable more people to use programming languages.

Excellent video! As someone who did lots of spreadsheets for insurance claims as a former underwriter, Excel is very helpful for row sizes below 1k. Cloud SQL is better for larger row sizes.

In my experience now having been 4 years out of college working as a data analyst at one of the big banks and an AAUDE University, SAS is still very much alive and depended on. Some industries are slow to embrace change.

Now that I'm relatively familiar with Python/Pandas, I find it to be an invaluable tool for EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis). If I'm presented with relatively new (not well-known) and complex data, I perform EDA with Pandas. But it is true that Excel tends to be the most widely used tool in most work environments, hence I often "export" my work to an Excel compatible format when sharing. If the data is relatively "well-known" and it's inherent complexity is low, I would work primarily in Excel or LibreOffice Calc or Google Sheets.

Data Scientist here with ph. a Ph.D. in material science. The IA fails because it lacks the courage to look where it needs to later. However, it does help a lot by showing you how to make something when you are stuck in code. But they don't answer correctly; you must change the bit part to have a functional code. Python is easy. When I tried to master Java 20 years ago, it was difficult to code with my limited knowledge of Java and C. I learned Python very quickly.

My python level is satisfactory. I have an MA and i have got a google data analytics professional certificate. I never understood why no data analysts ever talk about statistics. You telling that barely anyone uses python and R tell me that no one seemingly goes beyond descriptive stats.
@adityaratan17912 күн бұрын
Then, can you please tell me what i should learn to become a data analyst
@PepperPatch_1712 күн бұрын
@adityaratan179 Data Analysts have a deceptive name. Maybe data transformer is a better term. You're reformatting data into a way that better communicates across an organization and more importantly to people of authority. A basic average can be enough to be significantly impactful but it's buried in data produced between departments that aren't communicating.
@akin24200212 күн бұрын
You can, but most mid-level managers do not care about Inferential or Predictive statistics. Executives care, but they only want to hear from someone who has a Ph. D or masters degree. Someone with a BS degree in Economics is only listened to for descriptive analysis by mid-level managers most of the time.
@LukeBarousse12 күн бұрын
Really depends on your job on what level of statistics you use. Statistics is important but yes many projects descriptive statistics was enough.
@eannane87124 күн бұрын
@akin242002 Even worse our data guy never has his data questioned because I don't think they want to admit they don't know it's good or not. I regularly used to point out problems, but stopped caring.

There are some transferable skills for the basics (formulas, functions, tables, etc.) but skills aren't really transferable when you get into advanced features of Excel.
