As a 50 year old red faced golfer who currently drives an XF, I whole heartedly agree with everything you say Matt. I've driven Jag's for 20 years and I'm gutted with the current state of affairs. "a passionate fanbase " is growing older (I'm one)and passing away. Youngsters don't want an old mans Jag'. I am experiencing this myself,,"Dad when are you going to get a new car, presently x350 xjr" A young mans Jag doesn't exist. Making a sports car doesn't make it appealing to a younger clientel. You said the same your self in an earlier video " You dont see the Queen or Prime Minister in a BMW or a Lexus, it's always an XJ" J C (Clarkson not Christ) loves the new XJ, but he's 60 odd years pld. Jaguar is the old establishments car. Image is everything in the UK nowadays...Why does every one want an iPhone here but the worlds biggest sellers are Android. How do you chane Jaguars image? Well first it has to stop being an Indian car, a car made in a 3rd world country (okay it's not made there but that's the perception). The majority of SUV's, which is all JLR make these days, are lease deals on a Motability lease so after a few years the lease is up and the SUV market is flooded. I am thinking of swoping my X350 for an X351 but the X350 may have the image of the wealthyf old man but the X351 has no image at all. Jaguar has become an irrelevancy in todays car market,

i worked for jaguar for 20 years, from them having poor rust buckets they changed the way with the x-type and s-type launches, yes they were never superb cars but they sold in good numbers, the XF was the game changer, we did a pre launch drive day with 5 cars from jaguar and every customer that tested one just fell in love with it, so nice and easy to drive, the sportbrake was another sucess but didnt sell in massive numbers, the xk was an awesome car and yes should still be in production, the xe was another great seller especially if fleet sales, the f-type was another awesome car, and sounds so so good. and the xj was always a very underrated executive car that was just a pleasure to drive, all these changed jaguar for the great but yes they are just going nowhere soon, it would be a disaster to see them vanish, the history and production behind the scenes in jagaur is just awesome, i just hope the owners tata invest and bring them back, worst thing they ever did was combine the dealerships with land rover, jaguar jut gets lost in there now, they should be stand alone sites. i loved my time there and will always hold a special place in my heart.

I love Jaguars. There’s just something about them that appeals to me that other cars don’t offer. As I’m not super rich the car I lusted after was a Jaguar Sportbrake. Every time I saw one I wanted it. I love the XF in saloon guise but to me the Sportbrake is just better looking and practical too. Well this year I managed to get a Racing Red 3.0D S Premium Luxury and I absolutely adore it. It’s very well built, well equipped and looks gorgeous. Considering it’s a massive car it’s so much fun to drive and boy it’s quick.

One word: Sales. I know you mentioned it dozens of times, but here's the rub; none of the cars Jaguar made in the last 10 to 15 years sold in large enough numbers compared to their rivals. Why? The brand. Jaguar is old hat; has been for some time. Yes I know they tried a bit to shake it off and go for the youngsters, but they just didn't take to it. For them, it's BMW or Volkswagen/Audi. End of. I love Jaguar, but it is a brand too tarnished and old to carry on, just like Rover was. It is sad, but it is time to put it to bed with a warm cup of milk. 😔

Im a senior surgeon from Germany, and I had more than 8 Jag X300, X308, X350, X351, X258 over the last 20 years as I have to drive about 70.000km yearly. Its just so sad they didnt continue the XJ series, as it was so much cooler than the regular A8, 7-series, and S-Class. Sold my last XJ about a year ago when it had 375.000km. Unfortunately it got really hard to find good examples here. I always paid between 5-20k for my old Jags, but now its just crap you can find at this pricepoint. My wife drives a Mini Clubman and a Defender V8 Carpathian, "unfortunately" I have to stick to my boring 2016 S500 as I cant find any reasonable cool Limousine in the 40k pricerange. Next weekend I will check a Jaguar XJ 5.0 US-Import because there are almost no European cars for sale here, at least not as a V8..... Had a F-Pace SVR before, but Im just not an SUV person. Bentleys are just too expensive and they remind me too much of my Phaeton W12 that I had many years ago Otherwise love your content! Big car enthusiast here. Probably one of few people (at least here in germany) that drove over 500.000km in various XJs. Went to local Jag meeting and they only use their cars occasionally, but I had and will use them always as a daily

They all have corrosion along the window trims, also take a look if the suspension works good. Well and most of them have a loose headliner... I know they are a lot cheaper in UK, but also the condition of the cars over there looks much worse - not sure if they treat the cars less good or they all have manipulated odometers. Here you have to spend about 20k Euros to find a decent one these days. I remember buying them as 3 year old cars for 25k, because no one wanted them back then....

I partly agree, but not overall. Mercedes stops the production of the A-class, because they don't earn enough money with it. And it's too expensive to adapt it to future emission limits. And that's one of the things I think you forgot about. With the product range you proposed with all the combustion engines Jaguar could never reach the goals and would have to pay millions of penalty. Another point where I totally disagree is your proposal to make small or midsize Coupés and convertibles. There is no market! Every manufacturer stops making them one after another. Audi stopped the TT and the A3 cabriolet, Mercedes combined the C-class and the E-class to one CLE cabriolet. It's a pity, but people don't buy these type of cars anymore.

A friend is on his second Puma and there are so many differences between the earlier ST x model, no felt lining in the centre console, drum brakes instead of discs, no digital displays on the heater controls. Jaguar believes that making a 100,000 plus saloon with no windows...? And unique styling will save them, I'd put you in charge. A brand needs to be accessible, aspirational and loved, otherwise it dies. 😕 R.I.P. Jaguar. Sorry for the rant. Lol

It's not just money, but physical resources and people you'd need to turn that plan around would be huge! 'Just doing a facelift' means aero testing, PedPro testing, emissions testing, yes emissions, lighting etc etc. Then homologation of each of those and more areas. Whereas every other brand has Joint ventures and sister brands to share with JLR are Billy no mates by comparison which reduces the parts bin. And when it comes to connected car and software derived vehicle stuff..... boy, that could be a huge ask

Its starting to get a little long in the tooth and can see me wanting to replace it in a few years and wish Jaguar were doing a new model. At least over here it was seen as a more sophisticated choice in the big sedan segment and also better looking and driving, I guess I will have to move over to the BMW 7 series.

I think Jaguar have just lost their way and not selling cars as a car manufacturer seems completely bizarre to me. Makes you think that someone has persuaded the board that selling anything that's not electric is not right-on enough to satisfy the millennials. The problem is that the majority of Jag buyers are 40+ so unless they are going to become a mass producer of cheap cars and hope the name sticks, they're going to have a tough time selling them when they start producing them again.

They're going up market and down numbers. £100k+ EVs with big profits on each one. They won't sell a huge number but they won't need to - Land Rover is the money maker. That's their thinking anyway. When I say they, I mean Tata, the huge Indian conglomerate that owns JLR.

I always thought they should have made an XE estate , to replace the x type estate . You are right about the parts bin being full , they have in the past year moved everything to Mercia park just off the M42 , and it is massive , I work there and they are still working the distribution into shape , it is no small task believe me, I think that once it is done new Jags will start coming shortly after, but for now the logistics are still work in progress . Jag parts are still being taken from the old warehouse to exhaustion and taken to the new place for distribution .

Love the images of the possible designs Matt, look great. Worth listening to the Intercooler podcast with the brilliant Ian Callum, pretty clear they'd designed replacements for the current range that will never see the light of day, shame. With many manufacturers now seeing the need for PHEV's vs. going full electric pity Jaguar couldn't replace some of the existing range rather than big jump to full EV.

Agree with you on a lot of your ideas, I would scrap all diesel engines, Jaguar are know over the years for a smooth running engines, petrol engines that is, not Transit van engines. Jaguar should make more coupe models and bring back the "C" badge XE-C, XF-C may be a XJ-C or make the XJ coupe and badge it as a XJ-S. As well as the XF estate why not a XE estate. Engines make a small 4 cylinder 1.6 turbo along side the 2.0 turbo and why not make a 4.5 or 5.0 V8 PHEV making the V8 good on petrol. As you said a 5 door hatchback Astra/Focus size and a Range Rover sport equivalent sounds good. Great video I like your thoughts

@@shaun30-3-mg9zs I mean a proper PHEV, none of this micro hybrid stuff. Short trips wouldn't need to fire up the engine. REX type setup, no oversized monster engine. Big HP figures provided by the electric components, engine sized for charging, running at peak efficiency, getting up to temperature quickly. Small diesels now have the filter up close to the engine, hot enough to drop soot levels without an active regen. I own one and it warms up and drops soot levels just pottering about town (an engine going into many small vans) Hasn't happened yet, but mine will actually tell me to hit the motorway if it can't complete passive or active regen cycles, and it detects soot levels are getting high. Also, I think you're mistaken about short runs using more fuel than a petrol. A petrol hybrid, quite possibly

When Matt pointed out what the Audi, Merc and BMW ranges look like, suddenly the ENTIRE JLR range, not just Jaguar does make absolutely no sense. The big three German brands sell cars hand over fist, and that’s before you account for the rest of what VAG do and MINI for BMW. I wonder if the current management are so lost on what to do with the Jaguar badge, they’re slowly and quietly letting it die so they can wind it down and just make Range Rovers. I’ve always thought the Range Rover Sport would make more sense as a Jaguar product, the Sport and the normal Range Rover seem to close to each other.
