Got to say, I like the way you're sticking it to the Boutique Snobs The trouble is it's easy to get caught up with it, instead of using what you've got
@iamlugginit22904 жыл бұрын
I’ll never understand boutique snobs. Why spend hundred on a pedal when most famous players use cheaper boss, ehx, mxr etc lol.
@derpimusmaximus88154 жыл бұрын
@@iamlugginit2290 IIRC a lot of famous players will use boutique gear in the studio, because it's the precise sound they want for that section of that particular song, but the Boss equivalent sounds fine on everything in the set list. With the additional benefit that if your board shits the bed on you, you can replace the whole thing in just about any city in the world, same day.

I picked up one of these units recently for $20. It was covered in dust, had no PSU, and there was no way to test it. Pleased to say that it cleaned up nicely and worked with a PSU I already had. Extremely easy to setup, with my 4 main gig sound, a clean, a clean with chorus, a mild overdrive and a distortion. I also added wah to the clean and distortion and copied them to either side of the original. I'm now on the lookout for another, these are the best small digital effects pedals I've come across. Thanks for doing these in depth videos. Super useful.

I miss my G2.1u sometimes.... I have been extensively (and carelessly) gigging with it for about 5 years before the switches went down... the tremolo and the A5 drive, when you tweaked the eq was fairly convincing... I see some of these reconditioned online or on cash converters sometimes and I’m tempted of course. Way cheaper than the HX stomp or the Pod Go ;) way to go on your clever and productive use of a 10 year old cheap multi effect Dave! Great interview on Anderton’s as well. Of course your tasty playing would make a tomato soup can sound like a boutique pedal.

Edit: Dave, I tried this settings with my Zoom g2.1u (in front of the amp, not in the fx loop, which I normally do). To be honest, they don't work for me, I just couldn't get along with these settings, the wall of sound coming to me was just "too much" and the sound too dark. Perhaps it's my amp with the et90 WGS speaker (which got lots of heads). Maybe it's also just my personal taste. Anyway, I've gone back to my own settings, but... to me, this only underlines just how versatile this little pedal is. You see, one never quits learning...thanks, Dave!😎👍

I've got a G1Xon which I hardly ever scratched the surface of - I found some of the built in presets awful when I first got it (birthday present several years ago) and that coloured my judgement really. I went back to it recently following a house move and someone directed me at the free ToneStudio software. Being able to set it up on the computer is much easier (for me) than doing it with the little knobs and menus etc, and already the device has really come to life. I don't really use the amp modelling stuff on it, I like to just go out into my headphones for now and only use the G1Xon effects pedals rather than amp modelling (I'm saving up for a Katana!) I suspect there are many things you've brought up in this video that are applicable to the G1Xon too, looking forward to having another evening with it this weekend having watched this now. Cheers!

Dave loves this pedal so much, that have has not one, but 2 of them! I always find Dave's playing and energy inspirational. Also really inspiring to see him performing and getting great sounds with inexpensive,(dare I say Cheap), gear! I have a complicated relationship with Zoom. I recommend their old stuff to many of my younger cash strapped students, but personally try to avoid using their stuff (unless in an amp's effect loop for modulation/ambient stuff only). For me personally, I really want to love zoom music gear, they have some pretty cool features and fun interface, but the preamp/distortion/eq stuff for me personally has always been Zoom's weakest link (which is a problem as this is the most used and most important effect for me), A big issue for me is how the gain seems to really be more of a kind of EQ filter that adds fizz when increased and puts a blanket over the sound when turned down, you can't get a classic amp model like a Marshall or tweed combo to go from clean to edge of breakup to overdrive for the model, unless you use the guitar's volume control to reduce the gain. This issue haunted me when I used an old flagship model Zoom 8080 a couple of decades ago, and seems to still be an issue with their more recent stuff I have tried and owned (zoom G1 and Zoom G2 for example). . This may not be an issue to every guitarist though. If anyone has any tips for getting round this issue I am open to suggestions. Perhaps there is a special way to dial in the overdrives that I am missing? Interesting to see the likes of Dave getting great results and tones out of their stuff. I have hear equal criticism of Digitech, Boss and Line 6 stuff which I find seems to work well for me, so perhaps it is a personal taste thing. One thing I do especially like from Zoom is their Chorus and modulations, but if I was to gig with and Zoom gear I would use a separate device for the preamp/gain/OD stuff.

Nice one Dave great channel, great review, playing etc as always! Just want to say that it’s nice to see someone demoing a pedal and showing your working method for programming, editing parameters and saving your personal presets as any normal musician would normally tend to work, well I work in the same way as you, weirdly most other channels demoing gear either talk a load of bollocks as doing it and go totally round the houses and off key while doing it!! Gladly you get on with it and do it all fluently in the way I like to see and do it, if any of that actually makes sense. My other big gripe with so many other channels when showing how to use it is such a basic thing of having the camera directly focused on the pedal and your hands while programming it, well done for this, so many I’ve watched recently the camera or product is opposite way round so product is upside down!!! Or at a weird angle so. You can’t really see anything going on!!! Or focused on the guy playing the guitar instead of the unit that you want see being programmed!! I’m sure I sound like a moaning nob head!! But it’s just nice to see you do these obviously basic things done properly and how I would expect most people to realise this is the best way to film such a demo. Cheers Dave you’re the man! All the best Steve, oh yeh you made this G2 sounds shit hot and have changed my opinion to maybe buying one soon cos I’m totally skint and had to sell loads of guitar gear recently to get bailiffs off my case and pay bills!!! Gutted!!! Have sold loads of really nice pedals, multi effects, amps, guitars, synths and Mac!!!! Gone from having a studio at home full of gear to only one Gretsch Electromatic G5422 which I love and just my iPhone for recording on GarageBand which actually works really well for me and can do majority of things I need to, a bit limiting sometimes but always usually a way to do what you need to and getting round how you used to when had all the professional gear I used to own. Had to sell my Fender amp yesterday as well!!!! So it’s been a pretty shit year!!! Thanks Dave watching you always cheers me up!! Thanks Steve

Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Loving seeing the cheaper effect peddles. A man after my own heart. I remember when I first bought my first Avon Les Paul copy guitar, way back in the mid 1970's, along with a beaten up Marshall amp stack and, which I have never seen before or since an 8-Track Echo machine (seemed to work quite well as I remember that is until the tape looped back around and repeated stuff I had played months before and not the stuff I was playing at the time. Freaky....). Any other really unusual effect peddles still being used out there in GUITAR LAND?

Cheers for that Dave. I picked mine up for £30 Just before the lockdown. I had no idea how good it is. I've been using mine as a clean tone. Not anymore.
