Here’s a tip for storing food in a chest freezer…put like meats in a cloth grocery bag…red bag for beef, green bag for chicken, blue bag for pork
@keart6519 сағат бұрын
I shop like that. I have a vacuum sealer. It is a MUST! I break down large bags of veg, fruit and divide meat. It keeps the food fresh and no freezer burn for a very very long time. It makes meal planning super easy when you have everything at home already.

Vacuum sealer was the best purchase we made 3 years ago. Got ours at costco. Also, for veggies and fruits, I purchase Green produce bags on Amazon for over 10 years. Keeps my grapes (infridge) and bananas (on counter) fresh for nearly 10+ days. They are amazing.

Great job girl🎉 think about this in your new laundry area a great place for a pantry. All the extra things go there. Plus when canned food, jelly, peanutbutter etc have great sales we stock up. Your pantry in your home is what you use your everyday things your other pantry is your long term one. Also for chest freezers get bags with handles so you can put all your chicken in one ground beef in one etc. Learned this from Becky at Acre Homestead. Also making things muffins, cookies etc and freezing them great way to save $. Your sweet mama is doing a great job coming alongside you. I learned from my mama who lived through the great depression and knew real hunger. She taught me and made sure her family would never face it as was in her power to do so.

You should do a nice shelf in your new laundry room for all the extra paper items. Also, invest in a food saver for your meats. You can even food saver veggies, fruits etc... I love mine and pprevents freezer burn. Where we live, we have a BJs vs Sam and I buy all my meats there. So nice to stock up and not be at the stores. 😊
@gramsthebuilder538811 сағат бұрын
Build a shelf above your washer and dryer and put the paper towel and Tp in there. I built a bench in my dinning area and put mine in there.

Karrie when I buy ground beef in bulk, I cook it all in a big pot and season it. When it’s cooled I divide it up into bags for each meal. Then I thaw it for tacos, sloppy joes, spaghetti, etc. instead of cooking it for each meal. It saves me time and mess since I drain it all at once.
@darleinm423918 сағат бұрын
I do this as well. I package them in one pound packs. I don’t season mine or defrost. I just get a pack and add it to the pasta sauce and season it, chili same thing etc… more then half the battle is cooking it. I also make my own hamburgers not cooked but ready to go. When I buy boneless skinless chicken breast. I boil some shred it package it in meal portions. It’s ready to go for chicken and rice, chicken taco whatever. Anywho I’m glad to see like minds.😊
@donnastratton839726 минут бұрын
I do this as well with ground turkey. My store frequently has it on sale 2 for $5.00. We use it in place of ground beef.
@donnastratton839725 минут бұрын
@@darleinm4239 I do this but only season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then when I use it in a meal, I add the chili, taco, etc seasoning then.

Love this video! I just did this for Jan 2025. I shopped for my family of 4 for the month. Yes, it is a lot of $$$ at once, but so many meals that can very easily carry over. We have a kitchen fridge, garage fridge and deep freezer and all are stocked! I freeze bread too, so we are legit good until February. I live in the northeast, so stocking up is a must in winter 🙂. We'll just have to get milk and eggs and bananas, but proteins, other fruits and veggies are stocked! Aldi and Walmart for us since we don't have the grocery stores like you all in the south.
@IreneJones-cl8qr17 сағат бұрын
So fun to see you so excited and wow, such good prices. As another person commented, use crates or baskets in the freezer and then make a list of what is inside. As you use an item, adjust the list. Make dinners according to the list, not a visual check of the freezer. Also, a full freezer is more efficient, and if ever the power goes out the food will stay colder longer if the freezer is full. Do I suspect menu planning is the next step so you rotate all the types of protein? And yes, a vacuum sealer is definitely a good plan, as you can thaw items in water in the sin’ which does not take much time.

I always question why anyone would do All their Grocery shopping at Walmart! Bulk buying, Sam’s, Costco is the way to go. Ppl complaint about groceries when they simply don’t know how to shop!
@roseduke827118 сағат бұрын
Yes, I am so proud of you for stocking up your freezer with all of the meat. We buy half a cow at a time from a cattle farm and we separate the different kinds of meats and I put milk crates in the freezer with the separated meats. The crates stack on top of each other so nicely and make it so easy to reach in, pick up a crate and get what I need out of my chest freezer. I purchased the milk crates from Amazon. Just thought that I would share this with you. Love, love, love your videos. XOXO'S

great deals Karrie! I would recommend getting some plastic bins (walmart, target, dollar store) this will help with placing like meats together and easier to get to the other foods without having to mess up the entire freezer. Especially if you are like me and want the item on the bottom and then all my hard work looks like a tornado hit the freezer! I also like to put the month and year I purchase my meat so the one on the bottom doesn't get lost and end up going bad. Love your channel and can't wait to see what you have planned for us this year!!

Girl. Find you a farmer and buy your meat in bulk. I just had a porterhouse that was 4.65/pd. When I first started doing this more than a decade ago I wouls just buy a 1/4 cow. A small 5 cf deep freezer stored in all. I know buy 1/2 a cow and a whole pig once a year. Best meat of my life and by far cheaper. Although, buying meat like this too is far more economical. Invest in a vacuum sealer. It will preserve the meat better in your freezer. Happy saving.

My husband had a doctor’s appointment today. I went so we could stop at the grocery on the way home. We went to Walmart, because it was on the way home. It was ridiculous how many shelves were empty. They had no eggs. And some of the meat was empty. We had been shopping at Food City. It’s the closest grocery store to our house. But his doctor was in the opposite direction. We need to try Sam’s. I have been a member and haven’t been to a store since we moved here. I have bought some things online. My granddaughter went to Aldi’s when she was here. And she left us some of the food she bought. She didn’t have room in her vehicle to get all of the food and Christmas gifts home. I haven’t fixed the rice boxes she left. But she got some great buns. My husband loved them. And she left some ravioli we ate the other night. I had gotten three jars of Prego at the store so we had that with the ravioli. My husband normally does our grocery shopping. But I noticed today walking through Walmart, everything I saw has gone up so much. It is ridiculous. And it’s just two of us here. I bought a bag of salad for dinner, I cut up a piece of chicken I cooked yesterday, and we had shredded cheese in the refrigerator. That’s what we had for dinner after getting home finally. And it was very tasty and quick.

Karrie.. get yourself a vacuum sealer! It will keep all the meat fresh for much longer time without getting freezer burned. You will thank youself! It takes a little longer, but so worth it. Never throw food away out of the freezer again! And add the date on every bag. (make sure you know how to vacuum seal wet foods though.. I usually use cheap ziploc bag and then poke 1-2 tiny holes in it and put that in the vacuum bag so it doesn't pull all the liquid out of the meat while it's sealing. That will ruin your vacuum sealer) I get huge deals on meat where I live and vacuum seal portions. I just ate some ground beef I sealed from 2022 and it was still good. Also...you can get plastic baskets from Dollar Tree and organizer your deep freezer. That is what I do, so I can stack the baskets/totes on top of each other, and lift out a whole basket to get to what's under it without having to sort through it piece by piece. So proud of you!! You are off to a great start!!!
@donnastratton839728 минут бұрын
I buy ground turkey on sale at Ingles and brown it and vacuum seal for the freezer for future meals. I've found if I refrigerate it overnight in the vacuum sealer bag and then vacuum seal it, the liquid doesn't come out and up into the machine.
@ima40schic13 минут бұрын
@@donnastratton8397 good idea. I do alot of bulk buying and sealing. I ruined 2 machines by accidentally pulling the liquid up into the process. So I'm just extra careful. I use the cheapest baggies and then put that in the vacuum seal bag with a couple of tiny pinholes. And I watch it very carefully. If I see liquid being sucked up I just hit the seal button to stop the vacuum process and it seals where it is. So far, I've saved my machine. :)

⚠➡One thing if I can recommend write a list of what is in the freezer ie.. 🔲steaks. 🔲 pork chops. Then put in in a plastic sleeve ( you know the ones you can get to put in three ring binders) and tape it to the top or side of your freezer and then write with a dry erase marker how many you have of each thing so you know what you have. Then when you take something out rub the number of whatever you took out and put the new number of what you still have in the freezer so you can see on the paper what you have always in your freezer at any giving time so its easier to plan your weekly meal and be able to throw stuff for when you want it.

Dang! your mama can shop the sales! 🤣 I never do this, but certainly need to. We do that with the large subs, I will pull the meat and pack it and the cheese, then cube up the bread to make croutons or freeze; if we're not going to eat through it quickly, then make sandwiches as we want to.
