How India’s Tax Policy is Making India Poor (Maratha Reservations, Indians Leaving India, & More)

I want to build MisFits publicly. I want to build it publicly because we would like to be held accountable for every action, inaction, or innovation in your MisFits Journey.

It takes a lot of courage to put one's reputation in line, and I am proudly going to do it - because I trust in this methodology.
In the journey, there will be moments when we'd fail, we will pivot, and we will get frustrated. In fact, I can promise you that the journey is NOT going to be easy. Nothing worth achieving in life comes easy.
But I assure you, we will come out stronger - because the entire experience is going to be so transformational for you.
The entire MisFits experience is going to be segmented into three layers.
1. Layer 1: Layer 1 will focus on the completion of standard books. This completion won't be in a 'traditional' format. The IFS fellows will analyze, critically think, communicate, and structure their thoughts as they complete the syllabus via Layer 1.
All books will be standard - coaching material, or notes taking won't be promoted in layer 1. I want you to fall in love with subjects. All the sessions will be engaging, and interactive, and will follow a Harvard Case Style Socratic Methodology.
The critical analysis of topics discussed will then be tied up not just with the world of politics, and international affairs, but also with the world of Business and public policy. Layer 1 in nutshell focuses on foundations. Layer 2 will build on this foundation.The reason for focusing on layer 1 is that almost all the UPSC aspirants will read the same 'standard' books, watch the same material, and have an almost similar strategy - engaging in layer 1 will give IFS Fellows at MisFits.bet a unique advantage over their peers.
In less than 3 months of continuous learning, IFS Fellows will realize how valuable this experience is.It might take some time to acclimatize to the learning methodology. It took me some time as well during my time at Harvard, Fletcher, and Tuck.
Without falling in love with learning - you can't clear this exam.
2. Layer 2 will focus on revisions, retention, and test-solving methodologies.
It goes in tandem with Layer 1. All the IFS fellows will be required to mandatorily complete the readings of standard chapters (that we will assign) after every class.
IFS Fellows will realize that it will be relatively easy for them to retain information. They will understand better, they will connect the dots better, and most importantly - they will read through the materials more efficiently. Readings will be divided into chunks so that IFS Fellows can also internalize those learnings.
After completion of the syllabus - there will be separate sessions on Test Solving. For example, in the UPSC Prelims examination - no candidate is expected to solve 100% of the paper with 100% accuracy. They are expected to make logical conjectures.
Various qualitative and quantitative methods will be discussed before the exams to curb the anxieties of the IFS Fellows.
After the classes and re-watching of recordings - IFS fellows will be confident to solve 60% of the Prelims Paper with 100% accuracy.
However, under the pressure of time/anxiety/fear - many make casual mistakes.
Therefore, IFS Fellows will also be taught techniques to take logical decisions, and most importantly how to take logical guesses by analyzing previous years' papers. Similarly for the Mains exam - diagramming techniques, Mckinsey's presentation principles, Business and Policy Frameworks, BCG 2 X 2 Matrix, etc. will make IFS fellows think beyond the usual 'economic', 'social', and 'political' buckets. And would help them score at least a few marks extra in every answer that they write.
And this now brings us to Layer 3.
3. Layer 3 will focus on solving papers.
Not the papers of UPSC Coaching institutes - but of the actual exam conducted by the UPSC. You will be surprised to know that UPSC repeats some of the questions (albeit in a different format). IFS Fellows might also refer to materials from a few other institutes to complete the current affairs portion - but for the static part, IFS Fellows will rely more on solving past UPSC Papers MULTIPLE TIMES.
The goal will be to cover the syllabus well in advance for the IFS Fellows.
So that they can re-watch the recorded lectures, and then test their potential via giving mock tests in Layer 4 (ideally after October 2023 -till the eventual exams). Even though the experience will formally end in the month of September/October. But I will also hold strategy discussions closer to the exam cycle.

Good thought but Dalits never born Dalits 1000 years ago, and Higher casts deprived them by all means. So financially Higher casts holds majority amount of wealth in India and lower casts are poorest. And demographically lower casts are more in numbers than higher casts so the wealth distribution is improper. The cast system is misleaded by the higher casts since the beginning which should be by work but they changed it by birth. So what their ancestors have done is challenging them now. It 's a sine curve. No one can get out of it. No escape. But it should be limited to a few generations so that the other BPL or Lower casts poor people can get the benefit of those scheme. Which should not continue generation after generation.

I agree with you on this, direct taxes should be abolished. We can’t grow an Economy, until we let people spend their money for their own purposes. Freebies Culture should be banned. Politician Pensions should be revoked. In fact Government Job Attempts should be reduced, so that Students can take decision to pursue a career in Entrepreneurship or Private Jobs instead of wasting decades in pursuit of a Government Jobs. We need to create Diverse Career Options, so that people from all kind of fields can become employable. We need to develop laws to prevent creation of Monopolies by creating Healthy Competition. Easy of Business should be on priority. Government should exit from all non-profiting Businesses.

Direct tax is not the problem. We do need them. Problem is majority people are not taxed. Especially, farmers who don't pay any tax on even ctores of income. Many businesses also include non-farm income as farm income to evade taxes.

How wonderful our tax system. If you lost money 2lakh as long capital gains and you get profit of 2 lakh as short term capital gains your actual income is zero. But you have to pay short tem capital gains tax. Finally your net loss is 30000 rupees STCG. Great thinking.

Huge tax like western country and not only that RBI is also working alongside the government and brought such rules if a person is earning from USA, the amount deposited in Paypal will be automatically deposited in Indian bank account in 48 hours which ensures that no one can evade tax. Due to this one has to pay conversion charges as well as tax and in the end left out with 60-70% of what he has earned. This way economy will not grow. The government is a greedy piece of trash no development, no jobs, no MSP to farmers but collecting taxes inspite of knowing the condition of per-capita income and unemployment crisis.

I'm a maratha and I don't think the community need reservation and I also think that all the OBC reservation should be turned into EWS and the cap of 8 lakh must be reduced to 2 or 3 L . All the OBC in maharashtra are well settled they're even more wealtheir than most of brahmins and that's the reality.

I also cannot wait to leave and raise my future kids in another country with different and creative mindset. In the last ten years 12 lakh High Net Worth Individuals have left this country for good let alone the number of NRIs who are working and settling in other countries as well. It is just not the tax, but the corruption, dirty politics, deteriorating air quality, crumbling infrastructure and lack of justice, 5 crore cases are pending. If you have money, is this the country you really wanna live in? Only the declining middle class people in the name of maa bharti will keep on buying movie tickets and work over time without being compensated for it in the name of patriotism. It is a sd reality but we are confined to a blue collar back office software maintenance people. only.39% of our gdp is invested in research and 1/3 of malnutritioned kids live in India. In global hunger index we have fallen way behind. Please dont try to change things whereas try to make your own life better cuz no one is gonna save you unless you procure insurmountable wealth, power or connections.

I have lost hope in this country's bureaucracy. They keep bringing up new BS regulations only to shackle hardworking citizens, while goons all over the country are given free hand. Outside, our people get back their dignity and peace of mind in work culture and contribute more happily. Local lalas with their favourite HRs kill the ingenuity and aspirations in them. Nobody wants to do JOB in this country anymore (except a few fields such as IT, finance etc). Only people with family wealth may live happily.

On point! I've also got visa rejection from a small European country even thou i had given the best visa application. Hardest pill to swallow, felt very bad for my Indian nationality which felt like racism. Tried to approach president but IAS officer never took me seriously. Nice business for embassies tho who eats ur money for rejecting the application. Anyways i don't find it suitable anymore to live in India as no govt. has given us that surrounding where we could stand on our feets. Idk anymore abt how not to loose pride in India.

Naman i really appreciate your efforts in highlighting tricky issues but it is unfair to blame government for all the problems. In this case how can you justify rich leaving the country because of high taxation ? Those are not patriotic because they can afford to pay taxes but still decide to leave the country. I know many who pay taxes but choose to be in India. Pls make efforts to instil patriotism in the heart of our young generation. Anyway i strongly believe that under current leadership of PM it has increased many fold & we have seen many high flying NRIs leaving their current high positions overseas & joined to develop our nation. Reverse brain drain has already started n will only increase in future.

I have been paying about 91k-98k as Income tax (annual of course) for past few years. I can’t afford to buy a house. I can’t afford private hospitals in case of some medical assistance. I won’t be able to get my child into some reputed private school (noida) I don’t get good quality infrastructure while travelling. I get potholes on streets during monsoon. Dirt and garbage. Poor air Poor quality water There is only one thing that is keeping the middle class from realising the grand trap and moral corruption of government and that is “entertainment “ Netflix… Amazon.. OTT … insta… etc etc are not letting people realise the grave situation of this doomed nation. (Of middle class)
