Learning: Practices that Indian educators can borrow: 1. Investing in last 5-10 minutes at end of class for Reflections on learning / debrief..- helps to reinforce learning, closure 2. Conducting scheduled Teacher training - observe another teacher, be student-teacher for a period - empowering teachers and upgrading their skills/practices 3. Connecting with students on a daily basis ... helps Teachers create non-threatening atmosphere, level field and thus a safe environment for - as against bossy teacher culture in India. 4. Investing in immersion - make efforts to understand the human (student) - empathise with the student 5. Seeking feedback from students to evaluate own session and improve future sessions 6. I do, we do, you do,... let go,.. helps to transfer responsibility, of learning - as against theory/example/exercise in India 7. Making connect - SEL - social emotional learning , ensure equity, mental health 8. Providing for Field education - internship during vacations, community service, externships to gain experience along with studies, learn to interact with people, expand perceptions, bring in social responsibility, build humility in the person... (In India school students are not encouraged to work.) 9. Encouraging students to have opinion, build perspectives.... have a worldview and give them confidence - that empowers students to make choices/decisions (In India having opinion is seen as being disrespectful) 10. Not being strict/bossy with students as it can hurt them, discourage them, etc non-academic comparisons: 11. Healthcare in India and America, 12. Feminism, economic independence of female children, 13. Strengths of Indian culture - eating home cooked food, sharing, hospitality, My views: The ten practices that we can borrow makes the video interview very useful, thanks to the guest and the Host. The interview/video must have been titled, 'Learning from the American education system' The Indian reality has been neglected or overlooked in the discussion - In India 1. Disciplining in India must be seen as developing followership (basic leadership) and not regimentation / conditioning - Americans are habituated to refusal in the name of freedom,... 2. more than 75% are in rural areas, 3. the class sizes are large (strength > 60), 4. teachers do not want to work there, 5. Mid-day meals programme is in place since decades in states like TN 6. Conversation on 'borrowing best practices' could have been done without commenting (bashing?) on Indian schools/teachers also! 7. did not see relevance of discussion on healthcare, feminism, culture I write on Employability in www.quora.com www.quora.com/profile/CK-Dwarakanath

As a teacher this is an amazing podcast. In India the system is so bad....I joined school 2 years back..and unknowingly I was practicing all what you said and I was implementing new things in my class with my students...because I wanted to give them what wasn't offered to me as a student.....but what I got in return was humiliation disrespect exploitation and mental emotional harassment at the end of the day...that I have to left that school....that principal made me feel I was doing sth wrong and I felt bad about it....today after listening to your podcast I am feeling good atleast I havent done wrong with my students...what I was trying was right....and what he was saying was definitely wrong.....in India, parents and school management don't care about teachers.....their mental health is not considered important and they are mentally emotionally tortured...and if you are female you will be physically exploited...the working condition is not safe for womens that's what I have experienced....evry day after humiliation I feel I chosed a wrong profession.....

Great discussion on the differences between the USA and India’s education systems. While the USA offers innovative teaching methods and critical thinking opportunities, it’s clear that India’s system needs significant improvements in terms of accessibility, curriculum modernization, and skill-based learning. It’s crucial to focus on education reform in India to better prepare students for the global stage.

Have you or your child been to US? How are you so sure about critical thinking. It’s all fluff and no substance here. If you or your child actually goes to school here day to day you will understand. To explain in easy way of how America peddles it’s education is they title it “probiotic yogurt risotto, tempered with seasonal garden fresh vegetables “, in reality it’s just curd rice with tadka of vegetables. So no content inside, only fancy name outside. Indian education while not ideal, provides better exposure. That’s why the successful Indians are who studied in India and then came here. Of course at masters level the story is totally different.

I was the quiet kid in school, my teachers called me gumsum but no one tried to know why. At the age of 27, I’ve learned that I’m autistic. I and everyone around me always thought I was different and awkward, I spent years of my life thinking something was wrong with me. An autism diagnosis would’ve helped me own it instead of trying to fit in and fail at it.

Jaise barfi film me priyanka chopra ko dikhaya gaya, autistic log aise nahi hote. Autistic logo ko stereotype kr dia gaya jabki real me koi pata tak nahi laga pata ki hamein autism hain kyuki ham bilkul normal hain. Bas bolte nhi h. Do tarah ke autistic log hote h, bilkul opposites but still similar.... ek jinko selective mutism hai aapke aur meri tarah aur dusre jo talkative hote h, always excited, overshare krte h. Autistic logo ko demean, stereotype, belittle, obscur, defame aur insult kia jata h bhaut. Backhanded compliments bhi bhaut milte h aur jo gifted bache ho unko nafrat bhaut milti h bematlab mein. Covert bullying bhaut hoti h aur gossip, smear campaigns, narc abuse. Stay strong and avoid everyone who do this or support this behaviour whether they are housemates or outsiders. Being alone is better than being in trouble without any fault. I think everyone should read about attachment styles and parenting styles. Attachment style ko heal karna zaruri hota h self esteem ke liye. Assertiveness, detachment, decisiveness aur authenticity bhi tabhi seekh sakta hai insaan. I had anxious attachment style. I became a people pleaser because people around me were entitled, overbearing, condescending but now i am straightforward.. not rude tho. Pehle i had selective mutism, i rarely talked and always smiled because of nervousness and now i can socialise comfortably. Now i became the talkative type.

I live in Melbourne. I liked the podcast as she talked all good things about US education but no negative. Truth is the ones who want to study are valued and the ones who don’t want to study have an option to do something else if they are good at something. Also Indian kids also go through racism whether it’s whichever foreign country . Teachers are in so much pressure to educate kids & have less say . Here parents and kids are right always. Kids are rude to teachers , they misbehave, they answer back , so there are good & bad things also .Schools have bullying issues is a big problem but good thing is that teachers show care and support to the students and if there is a complaint they take it seriously. So it comes with good & bad . Here in Australia we don’t get free breakfast, lunch but the schools sometimes offer doughnuts or pizzas on some special occasions. Yes education is much better than India , less pressure. Kids love to go to school. Teachers are not rude and you can reach out to teachers or to principals directly and easily for any reason. There is no arrogance in any Principals or teachers. They are very calm and respectful plus welcoming.

Very well explained video sharing the differences between India and the US education system. I would also like to add, in the US the system varies from State to State and within the state where they have more tax payers schools get more funding accordingly and provide facilities. That's why school ratings vary from place to place. Like she is from NYC and mentioned in school they provide free food. But in Washington State parents need to pay for food and stationery. But in general many things she has mentioned regarding the way of education taking care of kids with special needs are good just that again these facilities vary where schools are getting more funding they can support more therapies in school etc. So in short definitely better than what we have in government schools in India but still lags behind many other countries in Europe etc. Another point to clarify tution culture is not as bad as in India but it's definitely there. Like people go for different classes like Kummon is one of the popular and Russian Maths. One of the complaints of parents specifically Indians is that the standard of education is not as high as we have in India. What I mean is if we ask the 12th grade student in the US to clear the IIT exam in India they will suffer big time. But if we take a 12th grade student with a similar quality school in India like any CBSE or ICSE student they find it much easier to crack many US universities. That's why I am seeing many parents in the US keep their kids in India till grade 10th then sent to the US and the majority do far better.

Yes, my daughter is studying in the 10th class under the CBSE board. Since junior KG, she has had a heavy burden of writing. Now, even in the 10th class, the heavy writing continues. If she hasn’t completed any work, the teacher insults her badly in front of the entire class. Because of this, my daughter started avoiding school from July to mid-August. However, we finally met with the Principal and explained that our daughter was afraid to attend school because of the teacher’s harsh scolding. The Principal assured us that no teacher would scold her for anything and encouraged us to send her to school, stressing the importance of the 10th class. Now, she is attending school regularly."

Students' Evaluation of Teacher (every sem) 3. Unannounced HoDs visits for lesson observation 4. No interaction outside school/college (No pvt coaching) 5. Creating a stress free cordial, amicable learning classroom environment. 6. Free education all thru'. Free transport, books, laptops plus the Govt.pays monthly allowance for accommodation. Though teaching Arab students, EFL was challenging, I simply loved my work.❤ The icing on the cake is, you get a thick pay packet & NO INCOME TAX!🎉

I was in class 5 and fell sick for a few days later when I went back to school I missed some grammar chapters and my class classwork notebook was note up to date. When my English Language teacher (Mrs. Pamela) found this out instead of helping gave me a De-merit slip. That was the first De-merit slip that I got. After that incident I never felt comfortable in her classes.

Amazing 👏 podcast.. I wish we can together come forward and speak abt these issues and instead of religion cast creed we shud pressurize our govt to make Indian Education system as such...so petty we hv best humanity background bt still we fail😢

गजब 🎉, great watching this show. Sheeba ji I salute you to bring such experience. Jasmin shared her experience in such a humanitarian way, I am really impressed. 🙏 thanks a lot. If she were a hindu swarn woman, she would not have shared all this in true spirit. Swarn people made india hell, not humans but graded unequals.
