I can remember years ago that a guy not as intelligent or deep as me once said that I tended to state the obvious a lot of the time. Being a misunderstood INFJ and not knowing about MBTI back then, this hurt a lot. I think now that this was perhaps due to Ti child and the approach of building up from the base. Without a proper discussion, the original comments on a subject could easily be misconstrued as stating the obvious, when in fact they are the base upon which deeper insights can be discovered. I think of INFJ logic as a bit like thinking aloud. This is probably another example of why INFJs are frequently misunderstood. I like to have such open, logical discussions with people, but few are willing or able in my experience.

I agree. This topic confused me for a while. -I was really surprised, interacting with INFJ's online to not see as much Ti use as I expected. I thought I'm an INTP for a long time, but when getting deeper into Cognitive Functions, it became clear I'm actually an INFJ (Being a feeler really disappointed me honestly haha). I happen to really prioritize Ti for some reason. One of those could be suppressing my Fe in childhood a lot, and not wanting to express emotions. Even as a child I prioritized Ti and logic above everything else and got annoyed with people's emotional rationalizations. (Later around 19 years old I discovered my Fe, and people were shocked how I went from shy to social, without any slow change. I didn't need to practice that cus Fe was there the whole time, I just didn't use it) ..So I assumed that other INFJ's should have a similar Ti like me. But I found other INFJ's to be less precise in their logic and sometimes just saying things without explaining at all, from emotion. In my family, there is an INTP and ISTP, and still I was always looked at as the most logical, analytical person in a way, turning to me on Ti related issues often. It could be that I took on more of a personality trait of "always looking for logical inconsistencies", and it naturally became something that I focus on more. But it's very possible that irrelevant of the quality of use, I could not indulge in Ti for a length of time that they would. Even if I use it relatively efficiently, I'd say I do only if I must, and I don't enjoy thinking too much, it tires me out after a while. I too remember completing these logical puzzle games always the fastest of everyone, but after a few levels getting "bored of it", really getting tired and not wanting more. I assume it could be possible to train an INFJ's Ti to be maybe as efficient as an INTP's if trained and used, but could not be used for as long since it would never be Dominant position. Even thought the length of time would increase as well, depending on how intensely it is used. (Basically what you said) Sorry for the long message. Btw I love your channel, it's one of the rare ones I resonate with.

Me too. It helps to get some insight into this if you are familiar with the Enneagram. We INFJs fall into several different E types and it gives an explanation of what you have experienced. The most popular E type for us is 4, with quite a few 2s and 9s as well. I’m 5 myself but close to the boundary with 4. I’ve come across several others similar to me and you are very possibly in this sort of group too . It’s a relatively small one amongst INFJs as a whole and we tend to use our Ti more routinely and proficiently than the others, but at a cost of some inner harmony. I find I flip between T and F in the way I translate my Ni into humanspeak a lot more than other sorts of INFJ. It can seem like we are more like a T dominant at times, but our hypersensitivity to those around us always pulls me back into Fe in the end in the way I approach others.

@@johnk3714 I don't know much about Enneagram, but the rest of what you said fits, especially hypersensitivity pulling out the Fe, especially during chaos for me. Indeed.

@@johnk3714 Well, very nice description of me haha. I just barely looked up ennagram this week, so not pro in that, but judging by the types... I'd say I have mostly 5 in me... but also 4, 2, 9.. also am extremely competitive and driven, which would like a 3 maybe. I have the ESTP side turn on at times. Yah I would easily consider that it's even rare among INFJ's... I consider my self so "weird" and different that anyone (not as a positive, just observation), that when people said the nerds are weird, I used to say that I am a nerd even compared to the other nerds.. not fitting in to the max and isolated. Yah I was sure I'm Ti dom for a long time, I didn't see how could it be other way.. but it bugged me how extreme my emotions and empathy are at the same time. Then when I saw the whole "INFJ's are social chameleons and can become the person they talk to and copy others personalities" phenomena, then I was like - wait a second... that is my secret ability, how did they know. Looked into it a bit more, and it was so clear I'm actually INFJ. Peace maker, hypersensitive, therapist, the whole Fe stack. Even tho the Ti issue just made me feel like others who claim they are INFJ, are not really. But looks like they are.

@@Bobby_101 Bobby, you and I have so much in common that it's actually freaking me out. I don't ever see another INFJ talking like this. Because... they're not INFJs. They're ESFJs, maybe ENFJs, or ISFPs, or even INFPs... etc. ISFJs likely, too. It's just true. I keep thinking, "but maybe they are...", but I don't think so - you're even talking similar to the way I do. It's...awkward, HAH! I warn my oldest kid, DON'T BE ONE OF THE NERDS! When I was really young, even the nerds rejected me from their group. I would get along, in high school, eventually, with a jock here, a nerd there, a princess here, a goth there, etc... high school, goodness gracious. Now I get along with rich, or poor, crazy or not; as long as they're not conniving or manipulative or sinfully stupid...

You are right with the tertiary Ti. Personally could research in a similar fashion like higher Ti users, but can't sustain anywhere near what they are capable of. It's exhausting, especially when being forced to use it. Also noticed that when Ti is used healthily, it comes together with an Se assertiveness like an ESTP (have personally met ESTPs in real people). I noticed that Ti engages only when taking a defensive stance which Fe is not an option (yes, especially in isolation), or when used in a low stress situation (like just researching or problem solving as a past time to know more about the world). Can actively engage with it now, but only when in isolation. A surprising approach too, which was through Shadow Work (which requires the detached Ti stance to investigate yourself).

Agree with the assertive Ti coming off as ESTP… I know an INTP who will often get typed at face value as an ESTP. People who have spent more time with him to get to him know and his journey development through life can clearly see how from an ESTP he is but his assertive Ti which he mastered through his demanding cut throat job really makes it robust and punchy.

Definitely very helpful… I’ve been on burnout mode for some years and notice all the signs of “psyche strain” etching away at my patience, my ability to function in the “doing” sphere, and my ability to manage my less desirable emotions such as anger and irritability. I’ve crashed and eagerly so but it comes at an immense cost to my involvement in the external world and with people. I am recognizing Ni is a safe place to be coming out of long stretches of Ti development and Se involvement. I’m nurturing my “less productive” self at the moment and it feels so good to just sit and let Ni percolate (or juice up) again. I’m also in therapy again for added value. I’m also quite hard on my Ti… I feel stupid and I feel I appear stupid to others even though I know that is not what people actually say to me. Building confidence in Ti is another learning curve. Always chasing accuracy in TRUTH… it’s not as easy in Ni.

Makes sense. Maybe you can talk about how the shy INFJ can go about socializing to develop that Ti. 😳😆 It’s true though, social interaction is basically brain (and soul) food. Nice talk. Thank you.

I think any Enneagram 5 INFJ already naturally has their Ti super developed almost as much as Fe.

I have been working on bringing my TI into more conscious awareness. I have been working on not attaching meaning to everything. I was unaware of how often I did this unconsciously.

My dissociation and defenses were so high for a long time. I'm working really hard on strengthening my Ti so this was really useful ☺️ it's still kind of hard for me to not give in to the Fe more to the point of suppressing my needs or being worried that ppl will think I'm delusional if i share my internal thoughts lol

I needed Ti to be a Mom in dangerous and potentially dangerous situations. To me it’s like this tiny inner burning thing. Like a laser that turns on and moves my sensitive over and out of the way and fine tunes it to be sensitive outside of myself, not overly but not backing down and hiding, ethical but absolutely unstoppable. Am I separating the functions properly because that’s the behavior. Then if I’m alone I get my feelings hurt and go back in the cave.

I need your books. Asap lol I will be purchasing them within the week. YOU BET!! I really like what you have to say. I am eager to learn more about myself. Good stuff!! I use to be called an enigma by my teachers growing up. Before these personalities were discussed and dissected...people just thought I was confusing and couldn't figure me out. Lol I for sure am something you might want to study. Lol My life story is a novel that never has a dull moment. I take brain supplements and chokeberries help me these days.

my college roommate is an istp which means he has dominant ti. i would imagine talking to him would help develop my ti, but my ti is already pretty well developed so it’s just kinda annoying talking to him because i’d rather talk to an intuitive. but i still like him and we can help each other grow
