And that is smart, you are making your own informed decision. Kate posted a thumbnail of influencer faces and an inflammatory caption just to get people to click on her video which gives her views and/or subscribers. That is what she’s supposed to do to grow her channel. Everyone has an angle. If it was just information she wanted to give you, she could have achieved the same thing without calling people out, unless she has proof that a person is being deceptive, and probably would not have received as many view’s. Marlena Snell essentially did a similar video without calling out people. Which I get what you’re saying about needing to know the bad guys, but some of those people were not. I encourage you to watch Marlena’s video titled “stop buying makeup you don’t need” posted Sunday. Same message just not derogatory. I still love Kate everyone, and won’t stop watching her because I love her content. I’m simply saying that some of the people she called out have families to feed too and rely of YT as their only means of income. I guess my message is to make your own decisions about content, we are only influenced if we allow ourselves to be. Boy, such a can of worms!

That was the perfect time for the mom to teach her daughter that you don’t need materialistic things to make you feel good or fit in. There’s always going to be something that other kids have that you don’t. Will the mom go out and buy the new “it” thing each time this happens? When you do that you reinforce to your child that yes, you DO, need these things to fit in. When I was growing up I really wanted a denim two piece outfit (super cool in the early 2000s). My mom did not go out and buy the outfit. Instead, she taught me how to create my own unique style instead of trying to fit in and look like everyone else. It was challenging to deal with as an 8th grader but it taught me to be an independent thinker. And now, I have such amazing style compared to my peers. I’m constantly complemented on my fashion and I owe it to my mom. It’s ok to make your kids uncomfortable, as long as their basic needs are being met. And a stanley cup or my denim outfit, are not basic needs. They’re wants.

These thoughts have been so heavy on my mind lately! When Tati came back to KZbin she wasn’t heavily influencing and now that’s all she’s doing is pushing products left and right. The ick is real with her and a few other people, Allie Glines sweet as can be but uses words like “life changing and you need this” 🙅🏻♀️ as soon as that wordage starts in out. I’m tired of being sold to

I commented something similar under one of Tati’s videos recently. It really makes me sad because she is my girl! But I cannot stand for this new phase of hers.

allie glines literally never gave a negative review in her entire life. i used to watch her so much and then it just hit me and i unsubscribed. it's like she wants to be nice to ALL the brands so they will keep her on their pr lists. so irritating

Tati has assumed she needs money because of the lawsuits and wanting to bring back her brand, she has been really honest about it. They are all on youtube to make money. This video thumbnail has all the right faces to make sure you click on it to get views and that is ok.

I honestly buy most of my products when I see a lot of influencers have them in their empties videos. If they repurchase something over and over again I can feel confident that they really do like it and it isn’t sponsored. I have always liked those products too and those influencers have similar skin as me and complexion I think that is also key. If your 45 don’t run out and buy something a 19yr old loves like an under eye concealer. Loved this video. Great information ❤

I am so happy to see this video. This past year, being a noob at KZbin fashion videos specifically, I have purchased so much crap that I don’t use, don’t need, because I fell for it. I felt old and drab turning 60 so I bought makeup and clothes to make myself feel better. And now being in the algorithm, that’s all I get fed which is why your channel showed up. But thank you. I enjoyed your video and I have also come to terms with being happy and comfortable in my own skin, my own style and really appreciate your authenticity as well!

you make very insightful and valid points. even as someone that considers themselves quite media literate, i still found myself learning some things. you do a good job of not demonising things or people or tactics, but bringing attention to them as most people are not aware of the undercurrents of social media. thank you for this! and love that you included some social symone. she’s a great reality check when i want to overspend 😂

Something that really helped me with not giving in to purchasing all this stuff anymore was keeping in mind my impact on the environment. It absolutely grinds my gears when someone is very clearly doing an ad, or was at least gifted products from a brand, but they never verbally state that it's an ad, it's never mentioned in the video, and at the VERY BOTTOM of the description/caption: "brand x kindly provided products/this video was in collaboration with brand x", etc. Like I have zero issue with people doing sponsorships. But I have major issues with not properly disclosing relationship you have with brands. Imo whenever someone isn't upfront, it instantly discredits any recommendations they give. Thank you Kait for always being so straightforward and honest! You're a real breath of fresh air in the mass of brands and influencers doing this whole pay-to-play nonsense.

Same here! No one has an issue with tv commercials, so I just view sponsorships like that. But if influencers don’t close them, we have a problem.

Easier said than done, being on the receiving end of hate can be very difficult. But I hope people see my intention with this video! 🩵
@Ryanneey2 ай бұрын
I've said this elsewhere, but the system is broken. I've seen influencers receive PR and say things like, "I wanted so badly to like this," "I tried so hard to make this work," "I love the team at this brand, so I feel bad saying something negative about this," "While I don't like this product, I like these other products from this brand." There's an obvious influence on a creator's review if they receive a product for free.
@StateofKait2 ай бұрын
Definitely, but there's an extra layer that adds context to this. Yes, influencers don't want to sour their relationships with brands, but it also concerns online judgment. We get hate if we aren't overly nice about a product. You'd be surprised by how many people will absolutely flip out if you don't like a product or brand that they like. At the beginning of my channel, SO many people accused me of being a b*tch because I was completely unfiltered in my thoughts. Now, I have more of a "customer service" mindset and I think that's relevant to the conversation too. All of it is at play.

I’m personally frustrated with being sold to in every video I watch on KZbin. I’ve stopped watching many KZbinrs, such as Michelle Wang, House of Valentina, and Nikki La Rose, because they constantly promote products, encourage purchases, and include links in their description boxes to earn additional income. It feels like everyone is focused on consumption, which is ridiculous! As a result, I’m gradually reducing my viewership of many KZbinrs.

Some of the items are beyond my means and if I purchase it on sale and love it, it's gonna suck when I run out of it, because I can't afford to buy it again. I think this happens to many people. I am also a Genx (I hate these terms) and I don't want to see people being fake. I keep it real and only watch people that tell it like it is, hmmm Kait I wonder who that would be?!😉💚
