What you're supposed to do is tell the guy "let's just flow" and then go as hard as you can.

@Josh D. Let them tap you a couple times really fast so they slow way down then just go crazy.

In my opinion doing tournaments is like leveling up. Not in a since of belt color but your mental game. Push the mind and the body follows.

I've competed a lot but in normal training sessions I am pretty laid back. I only train hard a few weeks before competitions until about a week before. Even when I do train hard, nothing can replicate the adrenaline rush you get while competing. I'm actually competing tomorrow so I havent rolled since Monday.

I paused the video before you answered. Here's my gut reaction : "that depends on your partner bro. Train harder with anyone who is happy to train hard with you. Train lighter with others". A very good grappler once told me, when I asked him why he wanted to go with me often when he was prepping for a fight if the other guys could give him real competition - he said "cardio is cardio at this point. I'l. go with those guys too." Love your vids Chewy

I went last weekend, my second time ever with gi i won bronze, then i went no gi and won gold. I went also open witch i placed 5 on both gi and no gi. I went 12 matches won 9/12, no one there wanted to kill me, everyone was chill and cool. Just tap if they catch you in sub, i lost all my 3 in subs, there is no shame in that

Well, it all depends on you experience. Once you're on that level plain with those you roll with, intensity and depth should be a common... to really grapple is to be in a state of kinetic explosiveness, Idle but volatile on command. Over pain, stress, and bad position.

Hello I’m not going to share my name but I have a question. But first I am eleven I been trying for 3 years I am was the first kid at my gyms kids class and now I go to the adult class sometime. And I been what to really start to improve my game. I know you said you were a wrestler. And I kind of thinking of trying it out and I not sure if I sure because I not confident in taking down but I know if I do wrestling it will make that better. Also being a girl I am scared. So to sum it up what your thoughts do u think I should wrestle???? Please answer

I would definitely try it out. I wrestled in high school before starting jiu Jitsu. It teaches you great takedowns and scrambling not too mention the mental toughness you will learn.

@chewjitsu I’m a small guy 5.8, 136 pounds (in relation to the intermitted fasting video) don’t need a full video on my question just a reply would be good. There is a lot of big guys at my gym and I mean I would like to eat to try put on some weight but I feel like I can’t eat before training because it feels like I’m going to be sick from the pressure that is put on my stomach. Any tips or tricks for getting around this?

Eat after training instead of before of high protein like fish or steak, be explosive in drills, and be "solid" in every movement you do it will solidify ur body

Hopefully this guys gym will have an interclub comp he can do before he does a real comp. Those are basically the same. The intensity comes from points being on the line. When you are about to lose 1st place if the guy successfully knee slices through you half guard, you fight hard to not let him pass. If it''s just a roll, meh.

Hey Chewy, question for ya, I recently was promoted to blue belt about a month ago, and since that promotion Ive felt like it was rushed and in my mind I am still a white belt. I have mentally demoted myself back to white belt. Do I bring this up to the instructor who promoted me? Should I agree with their decision, maybe they see something I dont? I feel like this thought interrupts my rolls and time on the mat, and I perform worse since the promotion. Any thoughts or help would be awesome!! -Bob

Anyone got advice on “flipping that switch” to just go to that “i’m gonna win mentality”? I find if i’m in bottom positions or getting smashed and tapped quickly I start getting that voice in my head that’s like we’re getting out of this and i’ll flip a dude. How do i get the mind set before i get in those rough spots?
