7 : 50 onwards my confusion still remains please help. The reflected light from upper surface of wedge faces path change of lambda/2 but why doesn't it change for the reflected light from the lower surface of the wedge glass and cancel each other out. In figure why doesn't the light reflecting from R undergo go path change of lambda/2?

I'm not 100% sure... But in upper side there is phase change of pi due to reflection at denser medium which enters rarer medium.. And in lower side we have taken again air means under that wedge again air is there... So reflection at air (rarer medium) And then it reflected to denser medium (glass) So there is no phase change.. Phase change pi when light ray reflects from denser medium and moves into rarer Phase change is 0 when light ray reflects from rarer medium and moves into denser medium OR there is no change in medium CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ANYWHERE🙏

Sir, my doubt is as the two rays after ST line are not parallel how can u say they travel same distance after ST?
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics Жыл бұрын
Yes. Your doubt is right. Though they are unparallel, when a person sees, the rays get converged by eye 's lens and arrive at a point on retina. Effective distance traveled by the two rays is same and that can be proved.

Can you explain why the only depends on shape of upper surface only...not lower? .... because this concept is used in Newton's ring & for both reflected and transmitted Rays the shape is rings..only conditions are changed for bright and dark rings.

@@SSPhysics ok thank you so much,that's mean it only depends on the the surface whose thickness is changing,not const .& I've one more doubt...is central Max is formed in case of thin film interference or not? The fringes are formed within the film in case of thin film....so what is the shape of the fringe?..
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shreejaya No central Maximum in case of thin films. Shape of fringe totally depends on 3D structure of thin film. In case of newton's rings top surface of air film is spherical in shape. So fringes are circular.
@Shreejaya
@Shreejaya 2 жыл бұрын
@@SSPhysics okay but i am talking about the parallel thin film interference ...are the fringes are straight ? And how the refracted light interference is observed in microscope / telescope...as the refraction occur at lower surface & in microscope we are only observing reflected rays from top surface...and is interference between refracted & refracted light occurs at a time?
@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shreejaya Fringes are observed only in NON PARALLEL OR NON UNIFORM THICK film. No fringes in thin parallel film. You can observe fringes in refracted system provides light falls on film from downside. Both refracted and reflected fringes occur simultaneously.

Dust particles will make image/ pattern unclear. If air film between two glass plates is replaced by oil, you will see compressed pattern (close fringes) because refractive index is increased.

Thank you for the video It is really helpful and awesome I just have a question, why did you say that the wedge angle should be very small? I believe that even if theta is large but satisfies the brightness condition, I will get the interference pattern. What do you think sir please?
@SSPhysics

Interference is observed only in thin films and not in thick films. If angle is large, film thickness is large and film will not show Interference.

@SSPhysics
@SSPhysics 6 жыл бұрын
At that location thickness of air film is 0, means only glass throughout, so there is no air film for reflection. Technically, Path difference for wedge shape film=2mu t cos(r+thita)+lambda/2 For normal incidence r=0, thita practically near to zero, for air film mu =1. Therefore P.D. = lambda/ 2 only which is condition for destructive interference that is darkness.
