16 years in January, cut it off cold turkey! The sweet suffering almost burnt me to ash, but instead it steeled me and I had to temper that steel with wisdom. Everyone else I knew had to seek treatment, they couldn't fathom how I was able to make it through to the other side. Two weeks of hell and I even died became the Universe then came back to life only to almost die again. But I held it together and kept telling myself, "No matter how long this takes, when it is over it will have gone by in the blink of an eye". Congratulations, you gave death the bird and lived.👍💯

Im from Europe. When I moved here, it shocked me to the core that there were people dragging their hands on the floor while standing upright. Evrywhere. Next to my grocery store, my childs middle school, the bus stop, the intersections, the corner store, the bakery, the mall. I had to call in an overdose multiple times while my children were witnessing all of it. Disgusting government allows their society to fall into disaray in such a dehumanizing manner.

This is liberalism at its final conclusion when it gets almost no pushback. Who are you to say these people shouldn't have the right to do whatever they want, including being high on drugs all day, every day. I used to think it was the leftists who were dragging liberals to the extreme and if only we could get a sensible liberalism to return. Now, I see it though. Leftists on Reddit all talk about "Late Stage Capitalism" but that "Late Stage" term should really be applied to modern Liberalism.

As far as I am concerned there are TWO Opioid crises- one is the number of addicts in Canada. The other huge crisis is that people who have chronic untreatable Disease are being treated like drug seeking addicts and denied a safe medication that has worked for years. If they complain they are offered MAiD. Well I am NOT acceptng MAiD as a solution. Tall better get your $hit together and make life worth living for the chronic pain patients. It is a basic human right to live your best life. I will NOT accept being treated like an addict just because the medications that work happen to be addictive. Not everyone is trying to escape life. Some of us are trying to get the most Out of it-and that means adequate pain management.

Well said. I suffer from chronic pain and take oxycodone. I often feel like I’m being treated like a drug addict, and the extreme regulations in the US, often even make myself feel like a drug addict. 😂 the cycle of having to see my doctor every 25 days for a prescription that I can’t fill until the 28th-30th day, and than all the anxiety behind dropping off the script and hoping the pharmacy have enough to fill it before I run out. It’s super stressful. Makes me feel like a rat stuck in a hamster wheel. making sure I have my medication consumes my life.

Jordan mentioned professional colleges. I am a just retired engineer that spent decades in mgmt. What is even worse than the colleges is the rise of HR within companies. They used to be just administrators/secretaries that managed staffing. They morphed into these large power hungry organizations with representation right into C level that wield immense power over everyone within a company. Back in the 90s I locked horns with one that wanted to bring in drug testing at a high tech company I worked for. This was a solution in search of a problem. We had no problems with drug usage affecting employees. I was damned if I was going to walk to the washroom with my engineers to watch them provide a sample. It would have destroyed my relationships with my employees. I was able to fend off HR then because a lawyer came in and said unless we had specific drug problems we were just opening a Pandora's box but oh did I take heat over it. Today HR has so much power they would just put me under the microscope and any claims, regardless of validity would force me out.

In regards to our Charter of Rights I think it needs to be revamped, redone and rewritten completely. That Charter of rights is not worth the paper it's written on. It's essentially a bunch of words on a piece of paper. They have zero meaning. I've had my rights violated and I tried to make a complaint and nothing got done about it, nobody cares. The trucker protest with Trudeau seizing bank accounts and everything was just the icing on the cake for me I just made me realize that the charter means absolutely nothing at all.

Every single Bill of Rights is the same thing. They just admit they can overstep your rights when they want to with the notwithstanding clause. Name an amendment in the US and I can find you a bunch of cases where it's being violated on a regular basis, other than the 3rd amendment (housing soldiers). Rights are whatever can be backed by force. That's it. Anything written on a piece of paper and solely backed by that paper is meaningless. The Soviet Union promised more rights than the US. Ink on paper has no enforcement mechanism.

The vaccine mandates divided my large family. I studied Billy Gates and Fauci and WHO and refused the vaccination insanity. My family who got the vaccine are still getting covid or at least testing positive every time they get a sniffle, because the entire covid thing was a debacle in every way, including their bogus tests. The rest of the family continues to be healthier than the covid fear mongers in the family. My conclusions are that their mental states are opposite good health. Living in fear is the problem. Faith in God is the only answer. Sadly, every one of my cyclically sick family members are democrats. Has anyone done a study on the psychology of this?

The waiting times are a part of it too. I had a kidney stone for 9 months before I could get it removed, on opioids the whole time. I was biologically addicted to them by the end; when I stopped cold turkey I had cold sweats, fainting, a seizure, just felt awful. I went to the doctor to get a schedule to wean me off over a week and I was off of them without any more problems but a lot of people are not so fortunate.

People have to take responsibility for themselves. Nobody forced my kid to do it and nobody could stop him. I need pain meds-Opiates- have taken them over 30 years and am not addicted. I depend on them to live but have NEVER abused them. Yet I still get treated like an addicted criminal by the Dr’s office and pharmacy and I would rather die than go to the hospital for a shot like I used to. Mr. Peterson why would the Danielle Smith government knowingly and intentionally include language of “reasonable limits” into the Alberta Bill of Rights? Rights are rights, granted by God, that governments responsibility is to protect those rights. What Smith is proposing are government privileges that can be restricted at the behest of what the government determines to be a reasonable limit.

In legal terms, 'reasonable' means ordinary. The court considers the usual behavior of an average person under the same circumstances. Persons who meet or exceed an expected typical response aren't negligent. Those who fail to meet the standard for typical behavior are negligent.

I am Australian and whilst locked down in one of the most draconian cities in the world Melbourne, Victoria I made a decision 1) I no longer vote or align with the left 2) The Victorian government at the time was a vision of the modern socialist party 3) one must protest for their own rights and this does not always mean walking the streets it means voting, and saying NO be your own leader and protector. JBP was one of the discoveries during this time while locked up alone on L7 and contemplating jumping every day. I made it but many didn't in Victoria and the Premier, Andrews will have a statue erected this year in his honour and to me this is both horrific and comical. For me to thrive in this world I must avoid talking of politicians as much as possible.

But I am an Injured worker with Major injuries; I am limited to getting pain medications to help manage the pain I have. They want me to stop all opioid medication? But nothing helps with the pain I live with; I am considered a druggy-addicted piece of garbage. Yet they had me on a fentanyl patch having 2 100 micrograms patches on at a time while every 3 days, swapping out the oldest patch. Yet I have a wife, home, cars, bills, children, and grandchildren, and I am treated like a criminal drug user. I cut myself off the fentanyl (locked myself away in my bedroom for 7 days and went through HELL), yet I got off it. I use Percocet now to take the edge off, yet I can barely stand the pain, but it does help me. But my point is, why am I being labeled as a POS having to sign contracts to pee in a cup to get my next prescription? This is not fair.

Studies show a fascinating connection between physical and emotional pain and the brain's dopaminergic (pleasure/reward) center. This is exactly where opioids and opiates' mechanism of action lies, lighting it up in a powerful way. It's no wonder these substances can be so addictive-they produce intense calming feel-good sensations (along with pain relief.) However, I can’t help but feel we’ve danced with the devil by opting for synthetic versions rather than using the whole poppy plant. The other alkaloids in the poppy plant counteract some of the more addictive properties and also produce a natural ceiling effect, not allowing the user to overindulge.

Never say never or always! 1st, I have worked as a nurse in CV labs for 30 yrs, so I have clinical experience with pain & pain control. My wife has had multiple unsuccessful back surgeries. For years, she was only able to function because of Oxycodone. Yes, she's had PT after PT, NSAIDs, and other non opioid medications. Now, she is no longer on it, but it is only because Suboxone has been approved for pain control. She NEVER had an issue with addiction & calls for eliminating a drug because some people misuse it is ignoring the millions of people that wake up every morning in debilitating pain! It was certainly over prescribed, but it has a use!

The ideas of the SFU researcher Bruce Alexander of Rat Park fame should be much more well know re: addiction. As people get more fragmented and disconnected (especially via pressured dislocation), the drive to addiction grows and grows. COVID turned families against each other and made it ok to abuse others who were on the wrong tribe. Then when someone is terribly wounded from this, it's not Canadian to get angry, we don't come together, we just tell people to get therapy. The evidence of therapy's efficacy is actually very low as Mad in America reports on. Unless we address some fundamental aspects of society addiction will only get worse.

In the US, I see doctors refusing to treat pain. Actual pain you see on imaging. It drives people to the street. It’s either no life or that. They prescribe antidepressants (not effective on pain in research) and gabapentin (not effective) and NSAIDS (that cause kidney damage). None work on pain receptors in the body. Intractable pain patients don’t experience euphoria like people partying with it. It levels the playing field so they can function. Their pain interrupts thought and hammers them, no creativity, no joy from hobbies. They’ve been mixed in with people using illicit fentanyl. Disgusting. It’s still happening.

Im am actually from near where JP is from. The opioid crisis is real. And in our small towns it actually feels like it is on purpose controlled by higher powers. They are actually shipping addicts and criminals from other places into our towns. Growing up we all knew the street people ( mostly alcoholics) now they come from hundreds of kilometers away to sleep on our streets and commit crimes. It is actually insane. I have traveled far and wide and have never seen anything like this anywhere. I see more addicts and criminals on the streets of my small town of 6k people than you would in a city in the balkans of a million people.

Smith is a hypocrite. She does not believe in private landowners right to do what they want with their land. The Alberta government allows for ANY oil and gas company to expropriate your land for Oil and Gas. The reason why this is problematic is because bankruptcy law has been modified to make the landowners very last on the list of secures creditors in the event of a bankruptcy. So I have to allow an oil and gas company access to my land to get access to the resource, they can go bankrupt and I am the very last priority to recieve an outstanding rent cheque for the acres they are supposed to be paying me for. Smith is nothing more than a puppet and mouth piece for corporations. She doesn't give a shit about any private citizens rights or their property rights.
