@@jagwatoof So that's exactly the reason that MLB is being sued by this Angels' employee who was providing this sticky substance to pitchers. That's how MLB works though. MLB will turn a blind eye, unless someone comes out to snitch. They will find a way to make a scapegoat out of someone or a team to keep from publicizing cheating issues as a leaguewide problem. This Angels' employee is the only one who got fired and penalized, while pitchers like Cole and Bauer get big contracts. What you're saying doesn't change the fact that the amount of money committed to Bauer as a free agent, was based on expected performance similar to that of his 2020 season. His career ERA is 3.90, but his ERA in the 2020 SEASON was 1.73. And if it turns out that his performance ends up similar to most of his pre2020 seasons "without" the "sticky substance," where his ERA was almost 4, that contract could very well turn out to be an overpay. I really don't care. That's what the Dodgers offered, not me. But, forget about thinking that he wants to expose the problem or play by the same "rules" as everyone else. I seriously doubt that this has anything to do with high moral standards in pitching. And lets say that he did it to prove a point, that was obviously a SECONDARY deflection to get what he was really after: MONEY. Bauer is ultimately after the money. Do I blame him? No, but for Bauer to have had such a BIG MOUTH about others who have been caught cheating and have had this "holier than thou" attitude about it, now look: here we are, talking about him cheating to get not only a better contract; he will be the highest paid baseball player this season and the next, and he's not even the best pitcher in baseball.

Also, back when the rule was implemented, they didn't switch out the balls in the game nearly as much. More pine tar on the bat means a greater chance it gets on the ball and gives the pitcher an advantage so they'd have to switch the balls out more often. Which also comes back to your point of being cheapskates.

I remember photos of pine tar smeared on the outside of the throwing arm side shin guard near the clips by the ankle of several catchers. So it is possible. Probably the best way to get away with it. But as stated above the pitcher then has no control of where it is placed or how much is used.

pine tar does give more of an advantage than roids, u still have to be able to make solid contact which is one of the hardest things in all of sports💯

I hate the dodgers, but I can’t help but feel bad for Bauer. His suspension is the most extreme i’ve seen in baseball with the claims against him. He literally got suspended for 2 full seasons off ALLEGATIONS alone, for which he even had vast evidence to prove they were false. I guess we live in a guilty until proven innocent world. Bauer deserves justice and karma will serve it’s course.
