Okay guys! In this video I go over how Isla Sorna was destroyed. Now the information that I use in this video can be found in Michael Crichton's second Jurassic Park book, The Lost World. This is basically the ending of that novel explained in full. A lot of this stuff was used in the build up for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom's viral marketing by the Dinosaur Protection Group and it happens to give some insight as to what happened to Isla Sorna! Site B was my favorite island...maybe we will get some info on it one day if we're lucky! :D

The DX prions disease was one of the scariest plot developments in the novel, and made me imagine what Crichton might have done with it if it was introduced to the mainland and adapt to infecting mammals. As such, this disease hasn't been introduced in the film series, but it could reappear. I love Doc Thorne's speech about what is real, living and true at the end, and I made it one of the themes of my book.

@@StudleyDuderight Thank you! I was afraid I was the only one who just shook my head after reading that. What he presents as "real" can and has been proven by the scientific method. It's not just a lot of fancy guesswork, there's actual proof in these ideas. Many of the ones (if not all) Thorne cites were never considered proven by anything approaching the scientific method. He might as well cite bloodletting or geocentrism while he's at it. Hell, alchemy was scientifically disproven! There's no fantasy involved.

He was wrong about the fantasy part - Something as believing humours control behaviour may chage overtime, but the destructive nature of humanity has been proved over & over, think of every war in history, the atomic bombs, poverty caused by corrupt government. This is not just a "fantasy", its a well established part of a human's character. That's why our only hope in this world is the one who gave it to us - God.

I like the DX thing, shows how one small mistake can lead to the ruin of the ambitions of all involved. It's playing the same card as the first novel did (over-reliance on technology and computers, in that case), and but done in a very different way. Also I'm surprised Kelly didn't say "South isn't real!" when Thorne walked away at the last sentence.

The sciences are a diverse, expansive, ever-changing thing. No one scientist is aware of every fact. Sarah Harding knowing it makes sense, since she works directly with animals; Levine didn't know it because his scientific focus was archeology. The scientists on Site B, having been chosen for their genetic expertise rather than their zoological knowledge, probably didn't have a working knowledge of zoo practices. The only people ever mentioned related to Jurassic Park who worked directly with animals before working there with Dr. Harding (Sarah's father, the vet on Isla Nublar, who worked in a zoo) and Muldoon (who was a game warden in Kenya, or something similar). - Lewis

Almost wish it could have been in the film. It went the same route as the first film of the Lost World from the silent era, Conan Doyle's book had Challenger just bring back a pterodactyl that flew away. The film required a apatosaurus on the loose terrorising downtown London with the same gusto as Rexy in San Diego.

I still wonder what they will do with Isla Sorna in the Movie canon...while it is true that the new Cloned dinosaurs by Masrani effected the ecosystem and many of the dinosaurs had to be shipped out back to Nublar. They never said that no Dinosaurs currently not exist in Sorna. Maybe a smaller population survived? I just hope to see it again.

Myself and many others believe it's entirely possible Isla Sorna is in much better shape than the DPG has let on. Despite the DPG being the "good" to the Extinction Now's "bad," it's still an organization run by people with specific goals in mind. Not _everything_ they reported is necessarily true or entirely accurate, as we could come to find out in Jurassic World 3 or other future content. I know, I'm merely speculating, but we shall see.

Even after all this years, I'm convinced that Levine is a dead man walking, and Malcolm and Sarah are lying through their teeth when they assure him he'll be fine. Prion infection in humans is pretty nasty no matter the source, and Chrichton was remarkably informed and accurate about them all through the book, right up until that talk on the boat.

Considering what happened to Gennaro and Muldoon between Jurassic Park and The Lost World, I feel it's only fair that Levine is, indeed, a dead man walking. Especially considering how his carelessness got Eddie killed, Arby horribly mutilated, and brought that prion infection on himself.

It makes me feel sad that Isla Sorna was going to have an extinction in both the book and in the film series, and around the release of Fallen Kingdom I had hope that this island would still exist for the animals. I always liked the island because it has been the primary setting for the dinosaurs and other creatures to roam freely and behave in a wild ecosystem, and there are more dinosaurs there as well and it is the origin location. Of course I like Isla Nublar too because it's the original story setting and where Jurassic Park and Jurassic World take place and it is the home of Rexy and the original Brachiosaurus we meet.
@DarthPyrusTheVirus
@DarthPyrusTheVirus 5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't like the idea of Isla Sorna being destroyed at all. After what happened on Isla Nublar, we got an entirely new, bigger island with many more species, and it was glorious. The end of the second film painted a wonderful picture of the dinosaurs living in harmony away from human interference, as Hammond had been wanting since the '93 incident, and even the third film continued this to some extent. I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around the illegal species being the main reason Sorna's ecosystem fell off a cliff, though. The Spinosaurus couldn't have killed so many dinosaurs that the entire system fell apart; that's simply ridiculous and improbable, and the same goes for the Ceratosaurus. It's also difficult to believe the Ankylosaurus and Corythosaurus caused problems for the other herbivores on the island at the time considering just how big Sorna was. We didn't even get to see most of it in the films, after all. The explanation seems to be not thought out very well, and just slapped in there to add more weight to the illegal species. Hopefully Sorna will be brought back at some point.
@issacflores2010
@issacflores2010 5 жыл бұрын
Jason Krueger remember the Isla Sorna in the movies is far bigger then it is in the books. That’s what made the ecosystem healthier but evasive dinosaurs like Spinosaurus , no doubt created by that bastard Wu, led to the island failing.
@DarthPyrusTheVirus
@DarthPyrusTheVirus 5 жыл бұрын
@@issacflores2010 I can see this explanation working for novel Sorna, but film Sorna is far, far bigger in scale and wouldn't logically have this issue.
@jurassicpark1fan920
@jurassicpark1fan920 5 жыл бұрын
It might not be logical but the intention of Spinosaurus was to have a dinosaur that could cause an extinction on the island. That was stated on one of JP3 featurettes so illogical yes but ever since JP3 the franchise has been pretty much just "popcorn flicks" where the movies are just meant to be entertaining.
@DarthPyrusTheVirus
@DarthPyrusTheVirus 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was stated in the behind-the-scenes feature, but there's a difference between intention and what ends up on screen. Horner also described the Spinosaurus as being 60 feet, but that never materialized. I'm not saying the Spinosaurus didn't have an effect on the ecosystem, as dumb as it sounds, but I don't think it was the biggest as some are claiming.
@CornishMoose
@CornishMoose 5 жыл бұрын
It’s really not that hard to believe at all, our history is full of examples of new species being introduced to an ecosystem that cause great harm and even lead to species becoming extinct. It’s the reason some countries have such strict laws about animals being brought in. It’s very possible that introducing new creatures to Sorna could have a devastating impact, especially when coupled with the strip mining of the island to fill the new park.

Then we get a shot of Sorna, we then zoom very deep into the forested island. The caption "Something has survived" appears. Then we see him. The baby Trex from the second film all grown up with it's mate, standing back away from a Stegosaurus herd lazily moving around while the we see JP3 raptors leaping in the background, and even farther in the background we see a herd of parasolophus and apatosaurs, then the lost world pteradon lands gracefully on the tree branch and the movie ends. I really hope we get a comic series from the Jurassic World trilogy. Would love to see the time between JP 3 and JW with how they dealt with the Spino after Alan.

I have a dark headcannon about the ending. That the DX prion spreads to humans and either destroys a large amount of the human population or causes humanity's extinction. A species of billions wiped out by a disease created by accident,an unintended consequence of Jurassic Park.

Prions, simply a folded piece of protein, folded left and you are fine, folded right and you have mad cow disease. How fascinating!! (Example of small change in prions leads to big difference)

Makes you wonder, does this mean that the dinos in the original JP novel were also infected with the disease caused by the sheep extract or were they healthier because a few where grown and hatched in the nursery at the park.

Personally, I've always felt the DX disease was a strange (not bad) plot point. Hammond and Wu, for all of their faults, weren't idiots and would have quickly realized how problematic the DX disease would be the second it popped up. They were just about ready to open the park in JP1, so you would really assume that the current stock of animal would have been immune to the disease (seriously, given Wu's ego, curing a disease through genetic manipulation would easily have topped his priority charts, as that could provide a cure for virus and prion based disease as a whole). I actually would have preferred it to have been something like rabies making the jump from local fauna to the dinosaurs, something they would have no immunity against and wouldn't present an issue till the dinos were all roaming free. Also can anyone think of a more terrifying scenario then being stuck on an island filled with rabid dinosaurs, such potential!

Interesting theory about human extinction by Malcolm thinking about Covid-19 and Omnicron. I think this theory will be a big part of Dominon. I believe that finding out about the destruction of Site B will be a potential wepond against dinos on mainland.
