My family is from the north east of Nigeria, specifically Borno. My mother always tells me story of how Islam came to Nigeria through one of the Sahaba. This history is not known to many even in Nigeria. I'm stunned by how accurate your narration is, you really did your research right. Barakallah, please keep producing more content like this about other nations also.

Islam could have been the main religion of West and East Africa if not the coloniszation, in DRC the Belgium kicked out my ancestors because they were muslims and Swahili speaking people, the denied them education and forced them to go to Catholic schools and attend Mass, so many decided to move to neighbouring countries such Tanzania including own ancestors. Alhmdulillah my family kept the faith and thrived as muslims till today!

The most remarkable aspect of this narrative is that the spread of Islam in Nigeria was neither a product of military conquest nor colonial imposition. Instead, it flourished through the exemplary character and ethical practices of Arab Muslim traders from North Africa, whose interactions fostered trust, cultural exchange, and spiritual resonance among the local communities.

In the early 2000s, i used to see the traditional Islamic schooling system. Almost every neighbourhood in my home city have at least one mallam, where children go to learn Quran and some places also have adults learning Arabic and books of Islamic jurisprudence. Today we still have some of these schools but not as it used to be in my home city 😢. Private Schools have taken over and most of them are build for money unlike the traditional system. I wish i can go back in time to see these system around me once again. 😢

@minimalismcoffee1953Ай бұрын
What a dumb comment. Nigeria is a piece of land demarcated by colonialists from Britain. It is a country with a large (majority by most counts) Muslim population… As a Nigerian myself, I say… much of its land is a Muslim country… But if you’re an enslaved victim of colonialism, I get your objection. If you’re a backwards racist who doesn’t like the notion of black nations within Islam, I get your comment.
@minimalismcoffee1953Ай бұрын
We got a victim of colonialism here guys… Let me guess, Nigeria is whatever some colonialist told you it is… forget the majority of the population, right? I’ll just add, I’m a Nigerian by the way.
