As kid I remember having farming class every week here helping a farm in my town in South of Israel,this something we are proud of even people who born in the city,most of the vegetables in Israel come from the Negev(desert part),If Ukraine war proved anything is that globalized systems are dangerous and especially food should be grown natively as much as possible,innovation over imports should be the solution.

@@54032Zepol East Texas, here. Granted - From Latvia originally, but have lived here for over 20yrs. Both of my daughters are in the FFA at their school. Now they even have them raise animals (one has a goat, the other a calf.) They can either donate them once they're out of school, or have them processed for meat at the local butcher. (Most likely what we will do.) Though, admittedly, the goat is a nanny so we may keep her for milk/cheese/breeding. Don't need any more cows. Some places are extremely proud of their farmers. Sadly many others have begun to look down on farmers as relics of a distant past... as if they could eat without them.

It is simply unbelievable how Israel is a major agricultural exporter, having started with a dry desert without the necessary water. But quality agricultural products aren't the only exports; there are semiconductors and manufactured electronics, diamonds and gold, and pharmaceuticals products. They have good will and excellent management...

Ty for this video, the farming techniques used in Israel are really amazing, I used to work farming dates in the southern region of Israel called the "Arava", where temperatures regularly reach above 40 degrees celsius, the amount of different plants that are grown here in the middle of a mostly dry desert area is really astounding and very high quality. They would even bring soil from other regions because the ground is so salty and inadequate. Really fascinating stuff.

My dad was using drip lines here in southern missouri in the 80s and 90s. When we cut grass we'd let it fill the grass catcher and then place the grass over drip line areas to help keep moisture around the roots. He went from growing tomatoes and corn to over time expanding to growing green beans, cucumbers, and yellow squash. Till he hurt himself we'd sell the extra tomatoes and corn from his Nursery business.

Israel was always ahead of its time on water conservation, farming, renewable energy. Solar panels were on so many building back when I lived there in 2000 and I recall they had turned a massive landfill into a thriving park. They're always coming up with game changing technologies. Last I read, a company named "N-Drip" came up with a gravity drip irrigation system that can cut 80+ % of CO2 and Methane emissions for farmers. Considering 27% of global CO2 emissions come from farming, this could be a revolutionizing technology in the fight against climate change.

Easy to do on occupied land With a multi billion dollar yearly settler colonialism aid budget
@extrapolate
@extrapolate Жыл бұрын
@@TheAtemiles lol. So many things wrong about your comment. A colony requires a mother country, what’s the Jews’? A colony requires imposition of a new language and has no history in the land, see endless archeological and historical proof of Jewish people in the land. It’s a home coming, not a colony. Doesn’t matter how much you repeat it. That’s why Jewish people in Israel will never surrender, they can’t afford it they have nowhere else to go unlike European and Arab colonies that have fallen for example (America, south of Spain). The so called aid budget makes up around 1-2% of Israel’s gpd. And it’s an American investment in their own arms industry (since it can only be used for that) and makes sure israel sticks to American arms. America does diplomacy through aid everywhere in the world, yet the only one that seems to bother you is the one given to arguably their most reliable ally in the Middle East that happens to be a Jewish majority state. Makes you wonder why. Lastly, as I said America gives billions of aid to many countries around the world. If developing said infrastructure was in fact due to the aid then israel wouldn’t be alone. Not to mention the never ending terrorist attacks they need to put up with and that drain their budget. Guess you’re back to the drawing board. Go learn a bit.

@@TheAtemiles Here are a few facts: 1) Jordan is the largest recipient of US economic foreign aid. In the 2023 budget, they're scheduled to receive 500 million just for border security alone 2) 75% of all military foreign aid to Israel must be used on American materials and workers. The US gains plenty in this cooperation. 3) Israel is a colony of whom? No one. You're just saying a bunch of words with no meaning. The Kingdom of Judea and Samaria (aka Israel) came before the arab settlements We have definitive archeological proof of a thriving Jewish nation with the city of David, the tunnels of Solomon, the fortresses built by Herod or the underground city built by King Hezekiah. 4) Jerusalem always had a Jewish majority. The British census of 1864 and the Ottoman census of 1875 and 1910 showed that 5) Even after the fall of the Jewish kingdoms, Jews still lived on the land. There were Jewish communities in Hebron, Galilee, Nablus, Gaza since the 9th century. There are Sephardic Jewish families who can trace their lineage in Jerusalem from the 13th century 6) 80% of Palestine was given to Transjordan by the British in 1921 as a result of the Hashamites being kicked out of modern day Saudi Arabia. The King even called himself the king of the Palestinians 7) Israel offered the West Bank back to Jordan but it refused 8) Zionists legally bought land from Arab farmers and they were the first to develop the land and the economy in Palestine. That alone attracted nearly 100k Arabs to move to Palestine for work opportunities in the 1920's 9) The Ottomans for nearly 300 years refused to allow Jews to migrate to Palestine, instead they flooded the area with Arabs and expelled Jews that already lived in Palestine I could go on and on but the point is, you're saying a bunch of easy to debunk garbage.

I can't help but be amazed at how much this has even changed since summer of 1977 when I spent the summer working on a kibbutz. Our kibbutz had oranges, apples, cotton, chickens & cows,whereas a friend of mine was up in the north where they grew bananas. At the time they were still using herbicides so we would have to cut the skins off tomatos and cucumbers before eathing them, after washing them throughly. Just the change in 40 years is amazing.

You didn't know it was cutting edge because it was not cutting edge. Everything in this video is in use nearly everywhere in the world. The deciding factor on which technique to use by farmers is purely a financial one, and whether it's subsidized or not, and what the market can bear for the crops. The methods described in this video are extremely expensive, but doable because of heavy subsidy and external funding. Some economies and industries are subsidized by government, both domestic and external, like in this particular case. Mega grants are constantly donated from external donors for supporting various Israeli industries, and this is one of them

These kind of projects will keep middle east a livable region, and not a total deserty wasteland, if it wasn't for constant bloodshed of course. I hope this system will remain sustainable and won't affect the food prices much. I'd like to see it is being applied in other countries too.

@LamLawIndy
@LamLawIndy Жыл бұрын
Admittedly, Israel is a special case, though. Forming the political will to create expensive desalination plants, for example, is a bit easier when your neighbors aren't exactly thrilled that you're in their neighborhood & have actually fought wars against you. It makes you realize in stark terms that some forms of self-sufficiency are absolutely imperative. The Israeli arms industry is Exhibit A in this regard.

Legitimate question, during the process of de-salinating sea water what happens to the waste products left behind? Obviously the salt and mineral content of the sea water doesnt just dissapear? So therefore Does the high salinity 'brine' get dumped back into the ocean or is there currently a better way of dealing with this waste?

In the US, the brine is basically dumped back into the ocean via pipes that in theory go where they'll do less environmental damage. Not sure if Israel does but I believe this is standard practice. Be better to fill a reservoir that could work as a giant battery. Just saying.

Recycling the brine is a huge difficulty for California. If they mix it with wastewater, it gets pumped 2 to 3 miles off shore. That creates 2 problems. The h2o part is that it doesn't provide water to local aquifers, but uses local fresh h2o and sends it to the ocean, which can cause serious damage(if you like seafood, you don't like this). All I got for you.

We know from various archeology records that modern day Tunisia was flourishing with forests and farmland. That and the Romans explicitly mention importing grain from there once they controlled it. And ancient Caanan was... a desert like it is today. There were small pockets of places that got enough rain for agriculture, but hardly the land of plenty. Given that there were places like Egypt and Anatolia where travelers regularly came from, I'm a bit surprised the ancient Hebrews saw this and decided this was God's promised land as opposed to some land he left over for them. The must truly had faith to continue after reaching their destination.
