The fans in these newer Schumachers are notoriously crap. I had 2 SC-1200A chargers, and their fans both failed within a few months. The first one burned up, but I caught the second one in time to fix it. Luckily I have a box of spare fans and I ended up having one the same size to replace the dead one with. xD

What a shame, that main pcb looked very decent, just the pic chip programming on the small pcb thats a bit naff. The idea it should show the capacity of the battery would be usefull, but sometimes a basic raw charger is better, basic transformer and rectifier (good old crudeness lol). Ive had quite a few "smart chargers" to repair over the years, the decent ones do seem to improve battery life, others are just a waste of parts.

mine is less than a year old,has just the voltage light on and the meter reads what the battery should be when its full.I used to be able to hold both buttons and get this po1 mode that would charge bit now nothing. time to tear mine apart I guess

And that's why I like my old Schumacher batter charger, 6 or 12 volts turn the dial for the number of hours of charging or press the button or charge or jump start.
@RinoaL10 жыл бұрын
wow i never thought of a time feature. does it make a ding like a kitchen appliance when its done? thats awesome.
@00POWERSTROKEDIESEL10 жыл бұрын
No it just rotates around till it gets to 0 hours and automatically shuts off.

Rinoa Super-Genius You can very easily convert a broken microwave oven to do exactly that. And make a ding :)
@RinoaL10 жыл бұрын
MrOpenGL i know, i was thinking that exact thing :D it would be cooler to find a big timer dial from like an industrial oven or something that was really big and cool. would make the clicking sound as the gears wound down.

That fan was a brushless fan, as such it has a motor controller built into it. providing it more voltage won't make it spin faster, it will just fry the motor controller.
@RinoaL10 жыл бұрын
but it does make it spin faster.
@lnwolf4110 жыл бұрын
Was it always crappy? And how often did you use it? looks like it was made to provide a trickle charge,and to charge a dead battery from lights left on.
@RinoaL10 жыл бұрын
i've used it quite a bit, only problem with the trickle charge is you need to check on it every few hours and press the button again to start it and sometimes even unplug it like i had to do in this video to get it going again.

I think you have a defective unit. I have the same one (30A version, otherwise identical) and I've had no problems aside from the bearings in the fan starting to go bad. (which I assumed was from running it in -20F weather repeatedly) It's actually been the best charger I've ever owned. I wish you had the same luck with it. I'd try contacting the manufacturer, can't hurt. Call that 800# on the top.
@RinoaL10 жыл бұрын
the 30S version wouldnt be the same. it would require differant circuitry inside. just because a case might be styled the same dosnt mean they are.
@AnthonyDiSano10 жыл бұрын
Rinoa Super-Genius Sorry, I have the 100A (XC103) version. The controls/display are identical and the operation (which I am very familiar with) is exactly the same. I've never had the flakey behavior you've experienced (and I've used it on some pretty sketchy batteries) all of which leads me to believe you might have a defective unit. I did notice they carry a 2 year warranty though, not sure how old yours is.

Hi, i'm servicing the same charger and mine has C2 blown... Do you know the ratings of that capacitor?
@athhud4 жыл бұрын
Don’t know if you still have this thing laying around, but I’ll tell you the ratings of C2 if you’ll tell me the value of R11 and the one next to it. I think it is R11... it’s hard to tell because the surface of the board is burnt off. These are two little resistors between MOSFET Q2 and capacitor C9 near the bottom left corner of the large transformer in the middle of the board.

That looks like a hazard if it were to put out 12v on a 6v battery. My buddy has almost an entire pallet of WalMart returns of this model and similar ones. Gotta be Chinese junk. Find an old metal Schumacher from a garage sale. I have the XC75W model (75 amps), brief output current, and error code after one hour. I have doubts that if it did function that the 6 or 8 gauge wires could handle that 75 amp current for very long. FYI, you could probably pop a small server rack mount fan in there of the same size. If it's worth it.
@lomgshorts35 жыл бұрын
This is called "planned obsolescence". The charger is designed to last a year to eighteen months, then it dies in a spectacular fashion. This causes you to go out and buy another one because the "warranty" (if you can call it that) has long expired - if it had one to begin with. If it came from China, you were lucky to get anything in the box. The Chinese learned this from Japan who learned it from us. All want things to wear out quickly, so you are trapped into spending your money to "consume" more. So excuse me, I have a Ford Taurus to fix - again.

Bought my sc1281 at Walmart and first charge the the battery indicator was in continuous scroll. I called took pictures and a month later I received a new one . This one refuses to full charge a battery. I was thinking ,at first, the battery was fully charged when it indicated 100% and it cut off. Wrong! It cost me a deep cycle marine battery. In reality it never charged over 50% . I now test my batteries with a multimeter. The only reason I went with Schumacher was my first one was 20 + years old and still going strong til a tractor ran over it.

Do you know if it's possible to modify Schumacher battery chargers to operate on 220 volts? (e.g.: do the input transformers have unused taps for 220 volts?) My friends brought a Schumacher SE-5121A and XCS15 to Bolivia, not realizing there would be only 220 volts instead of 110. Is there any possibility someone could modify either of these chargers in the field to work on 220 volts?

I bought an automatic / fancy kind of Schumacher Battery Charger kind of like this one too! Same story at the end. It barely worked a few years. They are pieces of S^&t... In the future, I'm always going to buy a battery charger that I use my own brain to operate it (with some "Manually Operated Switches") . Automatic chargers = Automatic fail too!

I know it’s been 6 yrs since you made this but I’ve had mine seems like forever.... The battery number doesn’t sit on 12 or 6. It should show the voltage of your battery 12.1 12.3 11.2 etc. I think you just got a bad one. My pet peave with this is the snowflake turtle and rabbit. It should show amperage levels of 2 8 and 12 i think. At least that’s what i wrote on mine many years ago.

I have one just like it and have had it about 5 years or more and works fine. If you put your setting down on the turtle setting which is a slow charge it will charge much more efficiently . I use mine all the time I have about 10 batteries that I keep charged . I did take it apart one time and oiled the fan , but in all fairness that was after a lot of use . good luck.

Calling anyone here with this same model. After 12 faithful years of service mine has finally let the smoke out, and I was not easy on that fucker either. I've kept my stock fan alive by peeling the sticker off and filling the bearings with oil maybe three times across this time period. Anyways I need a clean picture of the power board because my AP3843CP-E1 (Current controller) and AOT10N60 Fet failed. Got them both ordered but the resistor between the two is wasted and unidentifiable.
