It was fine. It was entertaining enough for me to pay attention. Everybody else can thank their loved ones on their own time. They should just take the award and gtf off the stage. Also, it's disingenuous when people bring up Kojima. There were several people who appeared to show off a new project (the No Man's Sky team for example) and they were given plenty of time to talk too. For example, I read, that if you combined Kojima and Gonzo's talking time, it was more than every award winning Dev's combined talking time, which should be a hint for everyone, that this isn't the place for Game Developers to be recognised anymore.

This is the game awards and not E3, so it's kind of crazy to say no time should be spent talking about the awards. People don't like watching the grammys/Oscar's because we already hear those celebrities say the same things every day on TV (because they're celebrities), while game devs don't really get that luxury. It wouldn't be that hard to just review people's speeches (or give them a timer if they prefer to speak without notes) to make sure it doesn't go too long, AND also do your circle jerking with the random actors and Muppets for fun. At bare minimum, Chris Judge spent 5 minutes making a joke about his last speech being long af, that somebody else could've used.

I had this scenario when after Baldur's Gate 3 is made GOTY, Venom is rightfully Pissed that Spiderman 2 was given 7 nominations but earned none of them. Peter tries to calm Venom down. Venom then goes to the castle where Peter fought The Flame and Yuri to vent his anger. Miles gets Venom to come back to the Game Awards for a group picture with the other games.

This year reminded me of the 2020 awards where every other award went to Last of Us 2. Each award this year went to Alan Wake 2 and Baldurs Gate 3. I love Baldurs Gate 3, but I definitely believe in acknowledging the nominations or at least distribution of the wealth. My games of the year in 2020, FF7R and Ghost of Tsushima got a total of one award. And I definitely believed that they deserved more recognition than that…
