I used to work in a bakery and make apple pies from scratch. Peeling the apples and making the dough myself. I never used any honey so I’m very surprised by the amount they have in their pies. I usually just stuck to the simple brown sugar and cinnamon method for flavoring, and rely on the apples to supply the flavor. Also, those crimpers they use look so much easier than the handheld one I had to use ;w;

Did you know that the crusts of pies, tarts, etc was not actually eaten back when they were first created. They were seen as a sort of plate or bowl to eat the filling out of.

That's incorrect, they weren't eaten by the rich, servants and those who didn't have personal chefs and the like have always eaten them since they are calories, it was often left by children and the like though I know a couple sayings about this and am a huge culinary history nerd

When you hear someone say the phrase "As American as apple pie" just remember that neither apples nor pies are American and the first record of an apple pie recipe comes from England. So, to say that something is as American as apple pie is saying that it isn't American at all.
