@@RRMikeP Depending on your tastes wild turkey 101 might bee another whiskey to go for. Crown is a very muted and "smooth" whiskey. Mostly due to the filtering process that strips a lot of the flavor/oils that separate when they chill filter. You might also like Irish Whiskeys as they have a fruity or shortbread cookie notes. The other thing about makers is that they have a very consistent product that they intentionally over priced the market. That was literally their advertisement. I can 'just' tell the difference between Monkey's Shoulder and Makers Mark. having been introduced in the 90's to Maker mark it has a great nose, is fine against the pallet and a superb after meal treat that relaxes and rewards. Maker Mark is rather unique as a bourbon. Most bourbon are made of at least 51% corn, mandated by law like the video said, then barely, and rye. Makers Mark replaces the rye with wheat and is a member of the wheated bourbon class of whiskey. Replacing rye with wheat makes a significantly smoother whiskey to the taste lessening the burn and other harsh tastes. I prefer wheated bourbons for mixing drinks to taste more of the drink than the burn since most people, including myself, cant make a balanced cocktail.

Saw the story behind Maker's Mark on the History Channel. The guy who started this brand had a different brand run by his family for generations. After his father died and because of Prohibition and World War Two, he sold that brand to a different company. After several different business ventures, his wife told him to make whiskey. To make his new whiskey brand different from the old one, he burned the only handwritten recipe of the old family brand. Instead of testing different grain ratios as whiskey, which takes years, he and his wife baked bread to find the right ratio of grains. Once they found the right formula, that's when the whiskey started to be made. The guy's wife is the first person to hand dip the bottles in wax. This brand helped set American whiskey apart from other whiskeys that were being brought over from Europe and through Canada. Even though I don't drink alcohol, the story is very fascinating to me.

There is a bit they gloss over in the distilling process, like taking cuts from the second distillation, but overall, I think that was more a cut for time.

Ok but if the alcohol is distilled, how does it keep the flavour of the original ingredients (barley/corn etc.)?

Things worth noting but beyond the scope of this is that many Bourbon's are actually not "wheated," wheating is to bourbon almost like what a different malt is to scotch, it's done selectively and intentionally by specific distilleries to achieve a specific flavor profile. Makers does do a darn good job of making a wheated bourbon. The other thing is why they use iron free water. I mean certainly part of it is that the specific mineral content of the springs in Kentucky are a huge part of what makes Bourbon taste like bourbon, but iron in water of course can oxidize among other things which will impact the flavors during fermentation. This is also why if you're drinking it neat at home and you want to dilute it down to 80 proof or so (which is often recommended, it's sold cask strength to stand up on it's own with ice or what have you and not always intended to be sipped that strong) you are supposed to use an iron free mineral water as close to a Kentucky spring water as practical to preserve the intended taste.

Makers Mark bourbon is my favorite in my Old Fashion mixed drink. Basil Hayden is also great for this drink with a simply mix for the same drink. I've been a bourbon user for a long time with no hang overs, but l don't do it more than once a month, 1 l drive, 2 or more taxi. Do not drink and drive.

Then the used maker’s mark barrels are shipped to Scotland and used to age Scotch at the Laphroaig distillery.
@ForestxWalker063 жыл бұрын
Are they really ?
@shavedwolf873 жыл бұрын
@@ForestxWalker06 Yes. Scotch distilleries age their whiskey in used American oak barrels. I am not sure who supplies to whom in all cases, I just know that Maker’s Mark supplies to Laphroaig.
