I love these videos even though for most of the boots, the process is pretty similar. Nothing is hidden. There's no reason to try to make anything secret when the secret is you're using the best materials, top construction techniques, with really highly skilled craftspeople. The amazing thing is that these don't cost more. It's not a low cost of living area and I'm sure the craftspeople who make these make pretty decent money. It's not like they can just go easily hire more with the skills needed to do the various tasks.

Curious….the woman sewing at 5:23. Is she wearing that mask with padding because if talcum or baby powder? She has some thick padding in that mask. ❤ at 10:36 did you see how neat and uniformed that work bench is? ❤❤❤❤❤ though each to their own, I don’t understand how other craft people work with chaos all over the place, looking for tools, running around to find a replacement because they can’t find the original and then finding it once they return to the table. 😂 whoever set the guidelines at Nicks for proper preparation, I tip my hat to them. 😊

@19:53 it appears the 'wood foot' you used to form the boot top was removed, HOW??, as you pritty surely nailed the whole top half to it!!, and don't show us when, or how it was removed, did you machine it out?, as you obviously could NOT just pull it.
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
It is in fact just pulled out. The nails don't penetrate the mold AKA the last. The last has a metal bottom that the nails hit and turn around creating a hook. Then the last is just pulled out.

At the beginning, when the young gal is dressing all the edges of the leather with that spinning wheel machine.... What exactly is that for, and what does that do for the leather?
@JinsKookieJams9 ай бұрын
*2:12** - **3:20** here? That's a skiving machine. It removes excess material, usually along the edges of each leather piece. It bevels the edges of the parts that will be turned over and glued, to form a finished smooth flat edge. Skiving reduces the thickness of the leather edges, making it more pliable and flexible. This allows the trimmer to ease the leather round corners and curvature with a smooth finish. Skiving is usually performed on the "flesh" fuzzy side of a piece of leather rather than the "finished" smoother side.*

incredible process! Wondering why they still use metal nails in Lineman boots, aren't lineman come in very close contact with electricity and electricity + metal is not a good combo for human body?
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
The metal doesn't connect with the human body nor with any electricity.
@newinspiration21082 жыл бұрын

I have always wondered what on Earth could be making that loud foghorn type of noise that can frequently be heard in the background of so many of these videos. Just after the 18:00 mark, it almost seems as if that is the machine making the noise, but only because the noise is the loudest that I have ever heard it. The foghorn sound is not in the background, but the sound does not match what the machine tool appears to be doing.

Have you ever considered targeting the Telecom industry? There are tons of guys climbing towers in Walmart boots, sneakers, Van's etc. I think a dedicated "Tower Climber Boot" could sell well at the right price point. Skanked for standing on ladders, legs, struts, etc. Not too tall of a toe for fitting into spaces between the tower's structure. Idk, could be worth looking into. Maybe talk to some guys WAY more experienced than me. There's TONS of old tower dogs out there who know what's up. The industry will only grow and why not instill a tradition of wearing classic, durable, American boots on-site?
