Definitely deep clean first!! A good amount of times painters can paint over dirt, bug droppings, etc. I like to rinse all the walls to remove dust and old energy - to get to know every inch of the space and appreciate the new home!

Pro tip from a contacts user with dry eyes; drop your eyedrops on your eyes first, then into your contacts before putting them on. I’m sure dropping only into your contacts will be a massive help if your eyes aren’t as dry as mine. I got this tip from my eye doctor. It feels AMAZING. Life changing.

Deep clean first. The last thing you want is dirt under the paint - the paint job won't last as well. I don't know if you you have Sugar Soap in the States but that's what you want to clean with, get it at Mitre 10 or Bunnings (some of the supermarkets have it), it's Selleys brand and it comes in a dark blue bottle. You dilute it in hot water so even though the bottle looks small you only need one to do an average house top to bottom and it's what everyone, including the professionals, use in NZ to prep before painting. The cleaning company you're using will probably sugar soap the walls and ceilings if they're doing a 'move in clean' but you should have a bottle on hand and give everything a rinse before you paint. Hokey Pokey is the bomb but Tip Top is only the second best brand. If you're ever anywhere that you can get Rush Munroe's then get it!!! Expensive and not widely available but so so good.

What I recommend for dry eyes: Take breaks from contacts, take flax seed oil/omega 3 daily, order your preferred contacts online if you can, warm compress when you shower (facecloth to gently clean eyes/eyelashes) you can use baby shampoo to make this cleaning work better. This helps clean out the oil glands that need to work properly to protect your eye's surface. I also find my eyes feel better when I'm drinking more water. Lubricating eye drops are nice but kind of treat the symptom and not the root cause.

Thank you both for reminding us how privileged we are.

Love your video! Your intro is beautiful! Lots of fun to watch too! A relaxing day for sure. I would recommend as far as painting goes, that you do a deep clean first, ensuring that the walls are also cleaned, to remove any dust/dirt- for a nice fresh surface for the paint to have a smooth adherence to. It will also allow you to feel like you can really cozy into the house, and paint at your own pace, so you won’t feel extra dirty when you leave the house after each paint session. Whatever residual mess is left after you paint, can easily be given a surface clean after… Also, as a fellow contact lens wearer myself, I understand how you feel! I transitioned to daily disposable contact lenses several years ago, and if you’re not already using those, I would give those a try, as they tend to be thinner than the reusable contact lenses, much more comfortable, and much less drying to the eyes!.. Really loved the Hot Springs section! Decided to plan a fall vacation at a Hot Springs in the mountains near me, for a girls weekend of massage, facials, Hot Springs, and lots and lots of hikes and exploration! Also, love that you guys are using your reusable coffee cups!.. Lastly, yay about moving! Seems like it’s just a couple more weeks now and then that you close on your home, ehh?!! I know you’re going to be so ecstatic when you get in! Now you can finally get settled permanently into your new home base, and do whatever you want with your property. Fun times to come! Looking forward to your adventures!.. As always, thank you for the cozy and fun videos! Got to watch it after a fun day out with a friend, before bed, to wind down, and it was very relaxing and like a big heart hug :-)!

My partner moved here from the USA in 2019 and it took him about 8 months to be completely comfortable driving here, so that’s totally normal! For your contacts, I was an optician in the USA before coming back to NZ. Your new brand could be the wrong size, as all brands of contacts can have slightly different diameters. They also can limit the amount of tears you absorb, which can make your eyes feel dry. You can put a few drops of contact solution on your eyes, while wearing the contacts to rehydrate your eyes and contacts. If you are using other drops, don’t put them in while wearing contacts, unless they are designed for contacts- as they can dry out or tint your contacts. You can also get some good deals on contacts from overseas, my contact brand aren’t super popular here either but overseas are very common, I just get them imported and it costs around the same. Hope that helps, from one blind person to another ☺️💖

I loved this video! I'd never really thought about why we have sushi here early in the day but I feel like it's to do with the perception of freshness - I won't buy sushi past 2pm anyway in case it's been sitting out for a while since it is the self-serve store. A lot of people grab sushi in the morning before work to pop in the fridge and eat at lunch too. And since it's such a common thing for lunch I don't feel like going out to dinner for sushi (just like I wouldn't go out to dinner for a sandwich), but I would go out for other Japanese meals like ramen or something else warm. Thanks for making such a cozy feeling video ❤ and you're totally brave learning to drive on the opposite side, that would really freak me out if I had to do so.

Concerning the Sushi. Fish and seafood is fresh first thing in the morning. The shops get their stock from the markets before dawn because the catch comes in early, usually 4am. So it's best to eat fresh sushi during the day, usually lunchtime.

I had -5 and -5.25 prescription prior to getting laser and had worn lenses pretty much exclusively from age 13-25. I went to get my surgery and on the day they refused me because the surgeon said I had damaged my eyes too much with years of lenses which didn't let oxygen through well! I was told to strictly wear glasses for a year (and to wear daily lenses if an event I absolutely had to wear lenses for) and then my eyes were healthy enough for surgery! Glad you're being mindful of this! Would definitely recommend getting prescription sunnies especially as you head into spring/summer!

Someone may have mentioned this already, but as far as the sushi goes, in Japan sushi is common for take out and can be purchased almost anywhere, because fresh fish is so easily accessed. Unlike in the US, sushi in Japan can be eaten for any meal of the day, including breakfast. I'm guessing its similar in New Zealand because fish is such a large part of the diet there. In the US sushi has been very "Americanized" as a fancy, expensive meal with lots of sauces and flavors added, so it's different here and not as traditional!

Hi Carrie I have also had problems with dry and sore eyes. The problem was my wood burning fireplace. Please read the instruction pamphlet that goes with the burner very carefully, it is very important to burn the fire correctly otherwise the air in your living room is very toxic. I hope this helps, cheers.
@CarrieRad3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow. This is really interesting. My eyes are still hurting a bit and I talked to my doctor about it yesterday. I’m going to look into this straight away. How toxic are we talking and did your eyes get better? 😥 This is such helpful information. Thank you so much.
@conbro533 жыл бұрын
@@CarrieRadI read an article on the negative health effects of wood heaters on asthmatics. I had been experiencing dry itchy sore eyes and mild asthma for sometime. We stopped using the fire for a week and my symptoms went away, they returned again when we lit the fire again. It is also very important that you use the heater properly, to burn the fire efficiently and safely, never operate it with the door open which allows the smoke particles to enter the room. We now use our split system air con and run it on solar, it is much better for the environment and our health. Unfortunately we miss the homely fire although we still light it occasionally. A fire pit outside maybe a good compromise at your new house. Best of luck with it all.

You are so right that people who have good eyes should really appreciate it. First off, how cool to just be able to wake up and see perfectly without any assistance. I don't think people who have always had that truly understand how great it is. Not only is it a hassle to have bad eyes (a fairly small hassle, but a hassle just the same), it's a significant expense over a lifetime to buy contacts/glasses and have yearly exams (especially in the US where eye exams are often not covered under medical insurance). I always think about getting Lasik when I can reasonably afford it because ultimately it would probably be such a big cost-saver for me in the long run. I often think the same about people who have good vs bad teeth.

5 tbsp sugar mixed with 2 tbsp of corn syrup over medium heat, stir constantly for about 5.5 -6 minutes, then add 1/2 tsp baking soda and keep stirring fast.. quickly pour the mixture over a piece of parchment paper (spray with Pam first). Make sure you quickly spread the mixture on the paper so it’s fairly thin. Let it sit for about 1/2 hour or longer. I like to then fold the parchment paper and roll it, to break the toffee into small pieces. Pour it over vanilla ice cream and voila! It’s delicious. I take the little toffee bits and put them in a small plastic container so that I can grab a little handful and mix it into a bowl of ice cream or fro yo as a snack. 💗

I had the same thing happen where my contacts were causing dryness. They were both too thick and too large in diameter. The problem went away when I got different contacts. I eventually had Lasik, which has been a great decision and I'd definitely recommend.

I want to do Lasik, but I'm pretty nervous about it.

@@CarrieRad Get good recommendations from others and that will ease your mind. I can't begin to tell you how easy the procedure is; it took minutes. You see immediately (I burst out in tears it was so amazing). There's really no pain; about as much as your eyes feel when they're dry. The thing I wondered after it was done was what the heck took me so long!

My husband and I decided to paint our home ourselves... The big problem with that is our walls are super textured. Decided if we ever buy a house with textured walls, we'll be paying a professional to deal with it! Months later, and we are STILL finding little spots that just didn't quite get fully painted. Haha!

If this product is available in NZ, Candor vision eye drops are the best for contact lens wearers (I know from personal experience).

Sushi places in nz are NOTORIOUS for always being closed, some of them are closed on the most random days/hours. The only reliable place is St pierres which is a chain and theyre open every day until like 6ish I think. But here sushi is most common for lunch, I dont really know why they open so early, I almost feel like its so people can grab it on their way to work to have for lunch? Idk, I wouldnt consider it common to have sushi for breakfast in nz. But for dinners you would go to a japanese restaurant, they often will still serve sushi, but have their main meals as donburis and ramen etc
