What I don't understand is why Disney has not (yet?) created multiple different ride journeys for this ride. Since the entire ride is computer controlled, why not create many different adventures and change them every month? For example, if there were 12 different ride adventures with a different one active every month, return visits to the park every month would be almost guaranteed. And why stop with just SciFi type rides? This type of technology could also be applied to "kiddie" rides, too, so that rides like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Snow White and Peter Pan could be converted to rides that _seemed_ to have movement, but like the Star Wars rides, never actually moved. The same physical space could accommodate more simultaneous riders, the lines would move faster, and different adventures could be loaded each month. Surely I can't be that much smarter than Disney's managers, so why haven't they done this?

As someone who works here, this is very well researched. Impressed by how much you know. Controls in the cockpit are actually determined by your seatbelt, not necessarily censors in the seat. Nothing in a control panel works until the corresponding seatbelt is buckled in. What you call a carousel, we call a turntable. They’re called Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta.
@cairrean2412
@cairrean2412 Жыл бұрын
That makes more sense tbh. The technology for seat belt sensors has existed in cars for decades, it would be easier to modify something that already exists vs having to make something new. Right?

That's a really interesting tidbit, thanks! I always wondered what would happen if I showed up and was the only person there given that at the very least, you need two pilots to fly the Falcon! Are there backup controls on the pilot positions for the engineering and gunner roles in the case that there aren't enough people? Or does a Cast Member tag in to help?

Apparently, they planned to have there be more possible missions than just the one to Corellia. Like, some rides might send you to Endor, or something. And in fact, the other missions are already programmed into the ride, but for now they're limiting it to the Corellia one to lower reride value and keep it from getting too busy. But maybe they'll unlock the other destinations once the pandemic is over to get park attendance back up.

This ride made me so sick. Just absolutely hammered me but couldn't complain because I was on a cast member pass; but omg, motion sick for the next few hours! This multi-pod setup also explains why they are in such a rush to get people out of the pods when the ride is over - one in our group tried to take a selfie in the cockpit and the cast member was super pushy. Very interesting explanation. My fun fact: We were told that part of the learning process for cast members who would be operating in the new ride was playing hide-and-seek in the queue area and chess rooms so they could learn how to get around the backstage and on-stage areas (I thought they said there were 4 mirrored chess rooms but I could be misremembering, this was WDL). Sounded like a fantastic and fun way to familiarize folks with an inherently confusing setup.

@@spencersparks2335That’s precisely why people get motion sickness on simulators. The motion you are feeling mismatches with what your eyes see. It’s even worse while wearing VR glasses as you aren’t moving at all. At least on a simulator ride, the motion somewhat matches. Disney did a pretty good job here on this ride. I only got a little sick and only for maybe 30 seconds which is phenomenal because I get motion sickness quite easily.

It also started giving me the same issues when j tried to make the Omnimover video where it would crash randomly during rendering, but I found a.way around it by looking at the log where it crashed and it shows the frame where so I could calculate where it crashed and adjust it. Saved me from having to edit it all over again like in the omnimover video.

Last time I rode this there were these two ditzy teen girls driving. The one controlling the up and down didn't realize that pushing down on the control actually makes it go up, so she was constantly crashing us. In fact, she didn't think she was even controlling it and kept saying I didn't do that, I didn't do that. They got in to a heated blame game with each other with each one saying "that's you! that's you!' 'No it's not! I didn't do that!". When the ride was over the cast member opened the door and said "11? Who was piloting this thing anyways?" And the two girls each pointed at each other, arguing with each other all the way out. (Example, asks a droid to play some music while the riders wait that consists of random beeps, or has a conversation with chewie about what's broken.) Overall though the ride is very fun and here's a tip: The single rider line is *much* shorter than the regular line, and is a viable option if you don't mind playing as engineer a lot.

I went to the Star Wars area at DL 2 months after it opened and got to ride this one. It was fun! Some tips for you when you go (which you totally should): * Go on both rides first thing in the morning, at least once each. Get that out of the way and you could return back later on or the next day if you want. * The singles line (for the Falcon ride) does help with wait times some, but you will be basically guaranteed to sit in the back of the cockpit if you go this route, as CMs will put families up front. The Falcon ride does not have Fast Pass (at least 1.5 years ago). * When you first enter the park, make your reservation through the Disney app to reserve your times for making your droid and/or lightsaber. I'd recommend doing these after dinner so that you're not hauling them around all day. The lightsaber does include a cushioned carrying case with a shoulder strap, but it's going to be full-length. The lightsaber building wasn't on Disneyland's map, but when you experience the build process there (which takes about 20 minutes), you'll understand why. * Yes, the lightsaber one is a bit pricey, but it's totally worth it. * Eat at least one meal in the Star Wars area. * Try and learn some Aurebesh before you go. If you use Disney's SW app to interact with the sets and props in the area, your phone's battery will drain like there's no tomorrow. Learning Aurebesh ahead of time will help you not use your phone as much. * If you fly there, keep in mind the only way to get your lightsaber (and probably droid) home is either inside a golf/ski bag that you'll check or as a carry-on by itself, which means that you can only take one other bag on board with you. The lightsaber can only be slightly disassembled, but the blade is one piece that's a bit fragile. * Just enjoy the whole area and interact with the roaming characters. And get some blue milk.

Best one yet! Loved the Star Tours pop-up tone. I already a knew a lot about how it worked, but as usual you bring up stuff I never would’ve thought to wonder about that just deepens the magic. Sadly when I went to the one in Disneyland I fell for the mistaken belief that the single rider line would be faster, since you were sacrificing the whole preshow. I was SO WRONG! Also, they were packing so many people through that ride so quickly they literally told people not to sit at that game table or go too far, so no photo op for me. It didn’t help I was going at Christmas and it was extra busy, I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The game is fun, but unless you know everyone in your crew personally you’re in for a real variable experience. Sadly they stuck a very young, small single riding child in the driver seat. His co-driver tried to help him, but one of the two times I went didn’t take long.

We were there when this opened but it was the day we were leaving so we didnt get to ride it till we went back maybe 6 months later. When we went back we quickly discovered the "one rider line" rode it so much my daughter said "I dont wont to ride it any more im tired of it." The best ride I did was with a college kid who had been on it as many times as us so we did pretty good. Still didnt get the second container though. The MOST fun I had was with a black family who didnt really understand Star Wars or what it was. They laughed the entire time and hit more stuff than I knew possible, pretty much destroyed the ship I think we got paid nothing after hondo got done with the repairs, they were a blast.

@@thatguy3968 Americans with Disabilities Act. It requires businesses to accomodate wheelchairs & walkers. It may be for something slightly different than for able-bodied people, which is how amusement and theme parks do it. So, there must be a ramp that is no steeper than a certain amount and at least a certain width with a handrail. There's a bunch of other rules as well depending on the type of business or residence, but it's to prevent handicapped people from completely missing out on a lot of things that us able-bodied people can experience.

I remember my first day at Disney last year I rope dropped early park hours to ride Rise. It was raining that morning, so even when I left Rise the park was practically empty. Went to Smuggler’s Run and the group before me went in together, leaving me on my own. The cast member told me I could just drive the Falcon on my own if I wanted, so I did! That was my first time and I did horrible, but it was so much fun. (Esp since the groups I was in the two other times I rode it had no idea what was going on. One family didn’t even speak English so… yeah, they couldn’t understand any of the instructions, lol. I tried to help because I can speak some Spanish but my vocab was too limited.)

The "game" felt difficult to me. It feels impossible not to crash into something if you're in the pilot role because the controls are undersensitive. The engineer role was confusing as well. We kept hitting the correct button when it was time to hook onto the cargo, but the attachment failed.

I like the interactive game concept of this ride... now if only they can include a souvenir at the end for the player who has the 'highest score' , like having a laser engraver behind the scenes which makes small pieces of simulated in-universe material as the ride is ongoing, to reflect the actions of the players during the ride

Really love this video, thanks for putting it together! I’m particularly interested in what you said about the ADA pods. At the end of the video you mentioned they are more intense but also that they are stationary. I’m confused. Can you explain? I use a manual wheelchair and have decent arm strength (but very little grip strength), and I’m paralyzed from the chest down so I suspect I will struggle with lateral balance in particular. Are you saying that the ADA pods don’t move back-and-forth and side to side? If so, how are they more intense?
@lmoon2627
@lmoon2627 3 жыл бұрын
So all the other pods are on a turntable that rotates versus the ADA pod doesn't rotate because it's not on a "carousel." This would make it more "stationary," technically speaking, but it's not any less intense and actually has more freedom because it's separate.

But it was pretty quick to get the next crew going on and I couldn't figure out how the ship was ready to go again, aside from that maybe there were 2 identical rides, but wow there are 36 of them! Also I went on as a single rider twice, the single rider line seems to just go to one of the loading rooms, is this correct? Or can they put you in either of the 2 from that line?

my sister and i found out that if ur fine with going by urself, while occasionally getting paired together, then u can go on the ride w like a 10-20 min wait if u go single rider; after waiting in the reg queue for 2 hours 1 time we went on the ride solo tons of time within the 2 hrs it wouldve taken us to go on it once; this works w some other rides in the park, but this one seems to be the best due to the necessity of ppl in the spots of each pod (also it was cool to meet some nice groups of ppl)
