Hey Shawn, Just a thought...Have you ever thought about doing an “Old school series” and talk about the techniques that your Italian master goldsmith taught you when you were young? That’s really precious knowledge that should be handed down, I think anyway. Thanks for sharing your great videos I really enjoy them

How did you make that setting for that stone? I have a gemstone of that shape that I want to set in that way in my ring?

It’s a hammer handpiece on a flex shaft/motor.

great information crazy that small amount of metal is able to hold that stone like a vise ....ill give it a worllie bird myself used to pien metal to hold or make a hole smaller so a screw could catch and thread in im assuming its the same type of deal.

Hello, I hope you can help! How do you do rubover set a single round stone on signet rings? Should I use a flat top with straight edge stone and just glue it? Or a flat top with single bevel stone? If using a FTSB stone that is 1.5mm in height, do i need the bevel to be a bit higher than the stone? And what would the thickness of the bezel should be? Many thanks in advance!

Can you change stones?
@gemcollectorswithshawnlgem46133 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott! Great Question. It is extremely difficult to raise a bezel up from a stone when they are bezel set correctly! But, If the bezel is tall enough and folded over the stone enough to saw off a portion just large enough to remove the bezel over the stone and still leave enough height to set the other stone in mind then it can be done, as I have many times been successful using this method . @@gemcollectorswithshawnlgem4613 Couldn't you "just" use a very very sharp and thin blade of a very high quality, and and run it along the edge again and again, until the bezel is bent away?
@katiejo1095 Жыл бұрын
It would help if you said what tool you are using to shape and polish, can't tell just by looking at it.

Katie Jo- Each person will find slight differences in the choices they will prefer to use. The best way to find out what works is to just start working on a project and you will learn quickly what works for you! Get a selection and start. They aren’t expensive and you should have a selection no matter anyway. Shawn

How do you make the setting in the first place?
@UrBrother_7113 жыл бұрын
Basically that setting he mentioned was made in wax first , and the hole was made specifically for that stone, so after that they invested the wax model in plaster then cooked out the wax And casted the piece in gold by filling the void left with molten metal
