The level of dedication and commitment it takes to do that for several months nonstop is otherworldly. I’d like to see anyone else try to pull that off. Hot take: Devonta Smith has a better career. Explanation: Chase is a phenomenal athlete, great ball skills, decent route runner, terrific after the catch but when I look at the NFL it’s not about your talent. It’s about your intelligence and consistency. When you look at Devonta Smith, from Day 1 he’s been undersized and overlooked. He’s made plays throughout his career against SEC competition week in and out for 4 years (more like 3 because he wasn’t a starter as a freshman). He is a GREAT route runner and can do everything Chase can do, but better. If Devonta Smith was 210 lbs, there would be little thought as to who should go first. The most talented receivers in NFL history haven’t been the most athletic, they’re typically the best route runners with terrific ball skills. Jerry Rice Andre Reed Chad Johnson Cris Carter Larry Fitzgerald Fred Biletnikoff That being said, Chase is a dawg and I hope he is very successful at the next level!

KJ Hamler would be a great addition; two years left on his cheap rookie contract and could play long term. If not him, We should go after a Vet like Jameson Crowder or Auden Tate, both would only cost a 6th or even 7th round pick. I’ve wanted them to sign one of them BEFORE the injury. Auden Tate low key has WR1 upside on a lot of teams and knows the playbook terminology and lingo, something that a lot of WR’s struggle to pick up with new teams. Tate would be ready to play Sunday if we signed him. Last thing Bengals need to do is panic and rush Chase back and worsen the injury, especially with these mickey mouse games against CAR and TEN along with a bye week.
