Went to many hockey games at the Norris Center at LSSU in the Sault. Also a very nice plaque honoring him, Sid Taffy Abel and others at the Puller Stadium in the Sault as well.

The Norris family, because of their control of the arenas in the big US cities, were heavily invested in boxing, particularly this James Norris's son James. He was the boss of boxing in the US, and that necessarily meant heavy ties with organized crime, which included match fixing, among other things. It's interesting how many NHL owners and executives have been involved in criminal activity, from Clarence Campbell to Harold Ballard to Bruce McNall to a whole variety of NY Islander owners, and others I can't think of now.

His son (Bruce) and daughter (Marguerite) owned the Wings after his passing, and his other son (James D.) co-owned the Blackhawks for a while.

Maybe not in one league, I'm pretty sure that was more banned in the 80s (let alone now) than it was in the 30s. However, Mike Illitch did own the Tigers (MLB), and I'm sure he would have bought into the Pistons (NBA) and Lions (NFL) if afforded the opportunity.
