Shiitake, meaning “oak mushrooms” in Japanese, is the second most produced mushroom in the world, following the common button mushroom. On the authentic Japanese growing methods on natural oak logs, where the mushrooms feed on the minerals and complex sugars in the oak itself, increasing nutrients, fiber, protein - and the flavor as well.

Mushrooms did wonders in my life. I could remember several years ago, I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Was actually diagnosed with ADHD. Not until my fiancee recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. This is something that really need to be use globally to help people with related health challenges.

I guess I just want somewhere to share my story. When I was 19 I took shrooms, and it was like I was turned inside out. As a child, I was very extroverted and loved being around people. And after the shrooms, I felt disconnected from everyone and everything around me. I just wanted to alone. I am learning to feel happiness from within myself, not running from myself. It's been a LONG and PAINFUL process but once it's healed, it's healed and beautiful.

These labor intensive farming practices are a contributor to the high cost of this variety of mushroom. It is very instructive to me on the use of seemly elderly work force; labor force would appear to be quite small especially in this rural area. It is still an instructive video and I do very much respect and admire the Japanese people and their traditional culture.

👍 You might have noticed that during the processing and preparation the stems were carefully removed from each mushroom and discarded. Unlike most edible mushrooms, the stem of the Shiitake is tough and fibrous, and therefore inedible. Edible mushrooms are very rich in much-needed rare earths and trace minerals, which our typical American diet is sorely lacking in. There is also something in edible mushrooms called polysaccharides, which are highly beneficial essential nutrients.

There is a secret method they use to trigger fruiting. A wheel similar to a surveyors wheel, is lined with a coil to distribute a high voltage electric pulse into the ground next to the inoculated logs. They have done studies that show there is a significantly higher yield when using high voltage. This method was found after observing the effects of lightning.

You can farm your own mushrooms very easily from the "wild", I use the playground next to my house! There is a little shed on there, behind it are some trees where I dumped a bunch of wood chips. If you simply dump the bottom cuttings from the mushrooms you eat over at the chips pile... it will eventually grow mushrooms!
