I’m typically happy with whatever you two post. I’m glad Jen has an actual story behind the injury unlike me breaking my ankle by tripping on air, and then the camp doctor insisting it wasn’t broken, walked on it for 48 hours, and then the orthopedist back home gave me an x Ray, and declared it broken. Got the cast off the day before my bat mitzvah and wore sparkly high tops under my ballgown

When I was 13, I got nailed square in the face by a soccer ball right before a game (I was a goalie) and smacked my head on the way down when I fell into the goal. Hurt like a bitch, probably had a concussion, but I only ended up sitting out the rest of the game because my glasses broke- I definitely would have played that game otherwise. The sports mentality is no joke.

I’m also a member of the broken wrist club! And, coincidentally, I broke my left wrist and am left handed. My injury also happened while playing a sport- but it was kickball in 8th grade gym class. I was guarding 1st base, and a girl kicked it right at me. Naturally, I put my left hand out to block my face. The ball SMACKS into my hand, and bends my wrist back! It was awful- but I didn’t even leave school early to get it checked out. My injury happened right before our French class trip to Quebec, so I have a big blue splint on in all the group photos. And, after the trip was final exams… I had the worst time writing the essays for them. (Jeez, that was 23 years ago!) Anyway, glad you’re on the mend, Jen! 👍

I love when Kristen goes into mom mode with Jen. 😂 I dislocated my ring finger on my right hand....during softball practice in college ....and I'm right handed 😂. Nothing like doing damage to your dominant hand. I was casted for about a month before being splinted for another month, then did OT for about two months. My hand smelled like sweaty feet in the middle of summer when the cast was taken off 🤢.

I relate so much to your experience, Jen. A couple years back, my knee buckled on me while I was walking down the steps to my backyard, and even though it was just *three freaking steps*, because of the way I landed, I ended up breaking several bones in my calf and foot. I was in so much pain I nearly passed out, but on the way to the hospital I kept telling myself "it's just a bad sprain" because I didn't want to deal with broken bones for the first time in my life. They took some x-rays of my leg, and initially the doctor told me, "looks like you broke a couple bones in your foot" and put my foot in a splint, then told me I needed to visit a specialist. Got to the specialist's office the next day, they took more x-rays, and they told me "well, looks like you broke both bones in your calf, five bones in your foot, and you tore a ligament. We'll need to do surgery to repair the damage." I was shell-shocked, I had no idea how to deal with that information. They ended up putting me in a cast that went all the way up to my knee, and I had to wear that for a few weeks until the day of the surgery. The surgery went well, thankfully, but I now have nine screws in my foot that will never be removed, so that's fun. Oh, and while I was recovering from the surgery, I had to administer a blood-thinning injection into my stomach every day for a month. c': I guess on the plus side, I got mostly over my fear of needles?

I relate to this. I thought I had sprained my ankle when I tripped off the side of ramp coming out of school when I was 21. It swelled up to 3x the size and was bruised. Went to the school clinic where they wrapped it. Went to the doctor for a shot 2.5 weeks later and she took a look at it while I was there, because it was still bothering me. Turns out I had broken a bone in my foot just below my toe (she could push the broken part up and you could see it on the skin on top of my foot). Whoops. She just sent me home with a tensor and told me to keep it elevated as much as possible. Good luck on your recovery Jen!!

It's awesome that you have a cool story to go with the break at least. I broke my ankle 2 weeks ago and waited 4 days to go to Urgent Care. Long Story Short- If you think you have a sprain and have any swelling, please just air on the side of being cautious and dramatic and go to the ER/hospital. Worst case scenario you waste a night or 2 waiting to be told you're fine if you're fine. I fell skating and landed with my whole body piled on top of my left ankle. Once I finally saw a Dr.at Urgent Care she asked why I waited so long and said "bad news: it's broken, you should have gone to the ER right away?" She was really nice and informative and I was just stunned because I've never broken a bone before, and it hurt insanely when it happened, but was just a constant 4/10 after so I thought it was just a bad sprain. Yall, I was about to try to go to my restaurant job on a broken ankle. I couldn't put weight on it though, so I went to the ER, but it was going to be a 12hr wait, so I went home and went to Urgent care when they opened the next day. I didn't go sooner because it was too painful to move it at all the first 2 days, then it was chaos the next 2. I finally got a cast 2 WEEKS after my injury. Urgent care splinted me, sent me to my primary care dr. (who couldn't see me for a few more days). Then he referred me to the bone dr (which took the weekend to make the referral). And I finally saw the bone dr. (an hour and a half drive away) Now I have a cast and can't walk for 2 months. My follow up appointment is in a month. Jen is right, people do like injury stories though, even if they're not as cool as Jens, lol.

I am very glad you are on the mend!! About 17 years ago I dropped a 6' long iron bar on my foot and thought "It is just a bruise! I will be fine!" and I waited 3 days to go to the doctor because it was Christmas and I did it at work and had to wait for approval to go to the doctor and have them pay for it... LOL It was quite broken. I ended up in a walking boot for 8 weeks. I learned a similar lesson. Go to the doctor immediately!

To be fair to Jen, I broke that same bone in my right wrist (im right handed) a few years ago in school. I continued through my entire day (taking notes/tests, carrying books, etc) and went to dance class. It’s hurt but I had some functionality so I just assumed it was sprained. By the time I got home in the evening it was swelling and my mom decided that I should probably get an x-ray the next day. Also a few weeks ago my mom was bowling in a tournament. About halfway through the first game she tripped up sims stairs and stumbled into a counter. She was winded and it hurt but she continued to play 5 and a half games. When she got home it hurt to move but she just figured it was bruised. The next morning she called me and was like “I need you to take me to the ER”. Turns out she broke 3 ribs in the fall.

I played softball for 15 years and let me tell you... You're a champion. Lmao. I've had teammates been less of a baby in COMPETITIVE SOFTBALL. I broke my foot when I was 12 and played 2 more weeks before I went to the Dr. To confirm and kept playing anyway... then completely dislocated my pointer finger on my throwing hand and popped it back in place. Ran to the nearest coach with tape and went back out immediately. Then... I had my oldest son when I was 19 and 1 week after I got out of the hospital I went to try outs for a tournament (competitive) and made it. So I played my last tournament the next weekend with my 2 week old baby in the stands feeding him and pumping in between games. Lmao I was married and in college but wanted to play so badly still after I turned down scholarships that I HAD to play one last time. Best decision of my life.

I totally relate to Jen's not wanting to go to the doctor after. I sprained my ankle twice within three months, and both times was convinced to go to urgent care, only to be told that it wasn't broken (which I knew) and that it would heal up in about a month (it's still not 100% six months later). Pretty much every experience I've had there has been unhelpful and dehumanizing, and I would be very reluctant to go back to urgent care after another injury if I wasn't bleeding or absolutely certain that something was broken. I don't say this to discourage others from going to the doctor after an injury, just to complain about urgent care specifically.

My daughter had a similar break when she was 9 months old and was in a full arm cast, bent at a 90 degree angle too. And we had to have it replaced several times because she kept PULLING IT OFF. They had no idea how she was able to do that. I hope you are all better soon!!

Haha. I did the same thing so it’s not uncommon to keep playing. Adrenaline is wonderful. I was playing dodgeball. Went to the bar after. Free drinks we won. And then called my sissy to pick me up. I was a bit intoxicated. Told her hey. Btw can we swing by emergency on the way home cause I think my wrist is broken. 😂🤣😂👍🏻

I broke a finger at like 10 pm on a Sunday night. Definitely didn't want to go to the ER for it. Barely slept and was at urgent care the minute it opened. I had complications so it ended up being over 8 weeks of not being able to use my dominant hand! Honestly, I was about ready to just cut the finger off rather than try to get it to heal anymore! I'm hoping you have a far speedier recovery!

I feel you Jen this time last year i was in a brace from my knee down as I fractured a bone in my knee when I slipped on a toy I didn't see as I was focused on trying to separate my 2 oldest boys as they where fighting over toy's, I went down into like a splits with my left leg under me and the right out straight 😢 I didn't think I fractured and neither did the doctor before she sent me for xray 😒 hopefully you heal soon and aren't like me in a brace for 3 months

Feel better soon, Jen! Broken bones suck. Got a hairline fracture trying to do jumping jacks, which I found out after like two days of pain. Bless the mom friends who tell people like us to go to the heckin' doctor.

Ouch, Jen!! I am glad you are healing nicely, at least!! Love story time!! On my first season playing softball in a gay league (we were also not very good), I slid/fell into 3rd base and tore my ACL. I was also like whatever it’s probably just really swollen and will heal on its own. I didn’t see a doctor until like a week later and then I did have to get surgery for it.

I unfortunately did the same thing, but worse. I’m on vacation and was roller skating in a rink. I was doing pretty well for my first time (it wasn’t roller blades, it’s the roller derby style skates). I’m out of the rink and I go to look at something closer and I fall backwards, landing on my arm. I ended up wearing an ace bandage for about two weeks until we get home and, surprise surprise, find out it was broken the entire time! Clear break right through in the same bone as Jen’s 😬😂 In my defense one of the employees had me bend my wrist and said “Oh you’re fine. It’s not broken! You’re good!” I have no clue why we all believed them but alas, we did.
