I substitute at a middle and a high school, and I don't even bother reading the students' dress code because I know I'll never report any of them for breaking it. Because dress codes are sexist and racist. Thanks for pointing out how ridiculous they can be!

People throw around "racist" way too easily anymore. Them saying the "no sagging" is racist is just ridiculous.. I've seen people of all races and ages with pants that are exposing like half of their ass.. That would definitely be inappropriate in a school setting. I also understand like plunging neck lines not being allowed on females. Certain things though like the fingertip rule is just idiotic.. not sexist or racist.. just flat out stupid. Not everything is suddenly racist, sexist, etc.

@@Eventide215 Sagging started as a fashion trend amongst Black communities, by banning it you are saying this Black fashion trend isn’t allowed which sounds pretty racist especially because it could easily fall under the no undergarments showing rule but instead they feel the need to specifically target Black culture.
@Eventide215
@Eventide215 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheLeannelithium Just because a fashion trend starts in a community doesn't mean banning it is suddenly racist.. Sagging actually started as a gang thing among black people. It then became a trend for any kind of "gangster" type no matter what the race. Showing off half of your ass isn't a "fashion trend" though.. it's just a symbol of idiocy. If you want to argue that's racist, I should be allowed to be nudist because otherwise that's sexist and racist as well as being against humans as a species. Clothing that would be considered as a racial thing is something that's culturally significant.. like a hijab which is part of being Muslim.
@TheLeannelithium
@TheLeannelithium 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eventide215 There’s so much to unpack here lol A lot of white fashion trends also started as “gang” trends or prison trends. These things often leak into street fashion in many cultures, that doesn’t negate them as fashion trends. Also your phrasing of it being a sign of idiocy is racist in and of itself. Your fashion tastes and how you decide to dress your body has nothing to do with your intelligence but I guess because a black persons sags their dumb???? And finally a hijab is a religious clothing item not racial so that point was irrelevant and truly shows how uneducated you are in all of this. I implore you to actually do research. Have a good day.

I just realized how classist these rules are as well. The "not excessively loose/tight" "not ripped/frayed" like when the school buys clothes for their kids when they gain/lose weight, grow or have to wear hand me downs then they can dictate how clothes should fit and what state they're in. The racism and sexism is obvious.

That's really gross and perverted of them, they literally saw you hit puberty early and sexualized and shamed you for something you couldn't control. It's in the same realm of "if a boy does something bad to a girl, it's the girls fault for tempting him" In 5th grade I was apart of a summer rec program. I wore a halter top one day and one of the boys snuck behind me and untied it. When I turned to yell and him he punched me in the throat which triggered an asthma attack. A councilor rushed over, gave me my inhaler and asked what happened. Thankfully he did at the very least get in trouble for punching me BUT HE DID NOT GET IN TROUBLE FOR UNTYING MY HALTER. Instead I got in trouble for wearing it and a new dress code of no halters was implemented with there only reason being "Boys will be tempted to pull the strings"

Lmao I'm having flashbacks, at least two of my schools ended up changing the dress code because of me. I would wear things they didn't like but that I knew weren't officially outlined in the dress code and it's ridiculous now to think back at how pressed they were about it. At my elementary school we had full uniforms, like we could only wear certain colors (red white blue black and khaki) and the clothes themselves had to be a certain style and were gendered (boys could wear pants or shorts, girls could wear skirts or jumper dresses with optional pantyhose or leggings.) It sucked but almost immediately I realized there was no rule about sock colors, so for my whole year there I wore these funky neon-striped knee high socks every day. I was told they changed the rules over the summer but I'd already moved away. Then when I was in high school we had a pretty typical dress code, but I made everyone mad because I (was undiagnosed autistic) started wearing face paint related to my big special interest at the time and was also wearing pajama pants to school a lot due to sensory issues, and again, they added a line about "excessive makeup or face paint" and also outlawed wearing nightclothes to school. So tl;dr you could probably get away with stuff that would make them real mad but they'd probably just seethe until they can change the rules over the summer.

We moved from a very large city in Texas to a rural town in Texas before I started 8th grade. Although their dress code was archaic in the rural town and the same dress code applied to elementary thru high school, the one thing that caught me off guard was the shoe policy. Shoes were literally not required. It stemmed from it being a really poor town at one time. I tested that rule in high school. One day it was bare feet all day for me! Not a word was said. 😳

In middle school I got dress coded for having a hole in my back pocket. The thing is the hole was only through the outer layer of the pocket so there was still a layer of jean material under it. Nothing was showing and they made me put a big piece of silver duct tape over it.

For some reason kristin in the poncho reminds me of the stepsister in three wishes for cinderella. (The obscure czech-german fairytale film that is a christmas classic in some european countries.)

I don't think kristen is good for the second school. I'm pretty sure that would be considered cleavage.

I really like these videos (glad you have the IP to do them on your own without the previous channel getting a cut!) More would be nice! But from what I learned from the (spit) previous channel I have been able to push back on some dress codes in my field of work. Especially on the more vague wording that relies on one person's definition of appropriate. So thanks for the education!
