Wonderful to get the shout out from John here, on making the intro to Dingwall (@5:28)! To add some detail... we were out for dinner near JT's hotel in Yorkville and afterwards, we were talking about all kinds of topics when John asked about other Canadian builders. I replied that Godin was the largest instrument maker by volume, and FBass was the super elite custom builder, and then mentioned Dingwall as a very specialized builder doing the multiscale thing, which intrigued him considering John is very tall with long arms (we even went to custom 35" scale basses for those we built him). So I did a google image search to show what the frets look like and the picture was of a Super P, if I recall, and he looked at it for a moment to absorb, reached out to swipe the picture to see another and BAM, a very bright green, very pointy NG3 came on the screen and I saw it instantly. His eyes went wide and he took the phone from my hand and showed it to Bernie (his tech) and without saying anything more than "Bernie! Have yoi seen these!?", I knew they would be in touch with Sheldon soon after. I am super grateful for the opportunity to have been welcomed into the DD world, attend several shows and build two instruments for John, but in the bigger picture Dingwall is really a great fit for him, and so I'm happy as well that another Canadian builder - and super good guy - is going to be taking good care of JT's bass needs going forward!

I've been waiting for him to talk about transitioning to that multiscale fretboard, and whether there was some relearning involved. Surprised to hear him mention Peavey in this video, but he speaks of them with love, and I see he's still using their amps. Can't wait for the album!

I've mixed Duran Duran live on and off since 2001. I had some time time away from them while mixing Harry Styles. I came back to them to find him playing this new Dingwall bass. I can honestly say it's astonishing. Funnily JT and Bernard Edwards who he mentions here are part of my musical history. Its not often a front of house engineer comes to the stage to find out 'what the hell is that bass- its amazing !!!???' And yes as a 'failed' bass player myself Im gonna get me one !!

It's always a pleasure to listen John explaining about the way he makes music. He's a talented humble true musician! Always something to learn about his concepts. I was very surprised when I recently noticed he was not playing his Peavey signature model so I thought "He has tried so many basses through his career that something REALLY good must have that new bass I've watched in several videos". I wish he had explained a bit more while playing it. He didn't mention the model! Anyway thank you! Dingwall was unknown to me in Mexico City and I'm avid to know about his new bass

Not a player but I have always had a sensory need for the bass to be into a song the one that carries the VIBE through it. Because of the way I perceive things I have always found my favourite tunes to be those when the bass punches through and the drums too, it's like a sort of a sensory balance at my solar plexus level. I am neuro divergent and sounds trigger a few other sensory responses for me, physical and emotionalones; bass+drum combo (especially the the way John Taylor does it in Duran Duran) is fundamental for me to even feel comfortable in my skin when I hear it, not every band has what Duran Duran have because not every band has this perfect combo of sounds.

Each musician has to find their own place and move along on that amazing journey. Each one of us becomes an integral part of a well-oiled machine that, when running correctly, is just the most amazing experience one can have. When you have more energy than when you started. And everyone wanting more and more is complete validation of a job well done.

Saw DD in concert this weekend. The PA wasn't exactly aimed at my upper bowl seats. Obviously DD has a LOT going on in every song, it would be quite easy to bury the bass in a lot of the synth mush that occupies the upper mid range of their music. That said - I heard and felt every bass note, with lots of punch and articulation. No thinning of the sound on upper register runs or the slap/pop sections, even actually heard the delay on View To A Kill, which I can't pick up even on the original record. The Dingwall bass is a really great match for John Taylor, and it certainly was distinctive in such an extreme environment.

Before watching this interview with John Taylor, I was listening to some classic Industrial Electro from the band, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult earlier this morning, and thought about how cool it would be if Duran Duran ever covered their song, "Blondes With Lobotomy Eyes." kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5WrkJptndGJh80 Since John loves to dance and is a bassist, I believe he and Roger Taylor as well as Nick Rhodes would have fun covering "Blondes With Lobotomy Eyes." There's plenty of bass in that song alone.

Playing bass for 51 years now & still play live frequently both in rock and gospel. I have two Dingwall basses & that’s all I play. Dingwall since 1996 there is nothing out there as good. The notion of just adding strings to a bridge is ridiculous especially for low notes. Fanning the frets was and is the only answer. Just wrap your head around a piano without the strings having different lengths as the lower register. It would be an unplayable instrument. Get a Dingwall ! They are incredible
