If you're an MA and go PRP (guarding nuclear weapons) you'll be stateside, but a lot of people actually try to avoid that job and want to 'see the world' ya know? The navy is about the seas of course, if you want to stay away from ships and stay on land I might suggest another branch entirely. Best of luck!

I am 22 and was in the process for the AirForce and was supposed to ship out this week but last week I was told that I couldn’t do security forces because of a misdiagnosed panic attack from 3 years ago. Other jobs that they offered me are rare med jobs and a fuckn office assistant type job. Not trying to downplay the AF logistics or Admin jobs but thats not what I want for myself. Navy recruiter said he can work with me to get MA despite this issue I had. My life took a turn last year and 2024 has been miserable. I want this because I wanna dedicate my life to public service and wanna go into Civilian Law Enforcement when I get out. Thank you for the further inspiration

That's terrible, I hope the navy recruiters can figure your stuff out and you can join us out here. Even if you don't qualify for MA, but can still get in the military, I'd recommend it if your situation was anything similar to mine.

I lost my mother to a stroke when I was 12. She had problems with abusive behavior and alcohol, so I have a sense of what you went through. You had it pretty rough Haeden, but you are proof that the negative experiences do not define you. I'd encourage you to find a good person to share your life with and have some kids. I'm in my 50s and don't think the hurt ever goes away, but you come to terms with it. People only have so much emotional bandwidth, so if you can fill it up with joyous things it tends to eclipse the things you shouldn't spend too much time on.

I actually did that exact same captioning job, for about the same time frame (2015 until laid off in 2023 as soon as they had an AI that could do my job 90% as good for pennies). I saw the same thing happen as the job got progressively worse... Not in Milwaukee, and I'm about eight years older than you, but my life has gone down the tubes in the year since I've been laid off, haven't been able to find other work outside of call centers and that analogy of a "caged animal" is really evocative of the feelings I have toward those jobs now. ...I'm really considering the Navy as my own fundamental reset button. A chance to make it out of that cycle of working to live. Thanks for sharing your story, Haeden!

Great way of explaining your past! I wouldn’t say I been through anything as traumatic, but for some reason I have been a bum (NOT HOLDING A JOB AT ALL)for the past few years since I been out of high school, I have ruined so many good job opportunities. I’m 21 years young and decided to join the navy to try and grow up and change my life and mindset for my 2 year old son. Your videos have helped me learn so much! To prepare me for the next chapter…

Hey Haeden, Wow of course you already know me being from Racine i knew all the places you were talking about Rawson, I-94 etc. First and foremost it not only takes strength to open up your past and soul to the world, but also provides a huge sense of therapeutic relief. You nailed it in the opening when you said you should never be worried about opening up to others no matter what maybe the others reaction. Because although some may either say things like that's not that rough etc (one up you) or say things like well i would have done it this way if i was in that place or situation. Which is a crock cause hindsight is always 20/20. So much easier to say how you can handle a life situation from a distance or outside looking in. You truly have carved out a great foundation young man (sorry I'm going to 46 years old you're a young man hahaha). This video is easily your best, you bared your soul for all to see and no one can tell you that your young journey was not peppered with huge barriers and unfortunate pitfalls. Yet rather than packing your bag and just simply laying down saying f it. You went out and attacked life with a zest and a drive. So many people your age can benefit from your story. cause there's millions of 17-25 year old kids who just lounge around all day and night. No direction, no drive or worse yet make excuses for hard events happening to them. Oh crap i gotta finish this comment later someone is at my door hahaha. 10/10 young Mr. Beck keep it up man. I’m a writer. We say there’s no bad experience, only more material.. as in writing material. I have a lot of “material” from my childhood too, as well as my military experience. So sad people didn’t see your potential when you first applied for work. I can see a very smart and gifted guy going places. Their loss. Loved hearing that you care about exercising. So many people don’t, and it’s so important for health, strength, and looking great at any age. Your life story already has the makings of a great movie. I’m a new subscriber and very excited to watch you succeed more and more in the months and years to come. I went in the Navy at 20 and did 3 years as a yeoman. Because of financial hardship, I failed to do the 2 years reserve after my 3 years active duty. That became a really bad thing as I started really missing the Navy and would have went back in if I could have. 14 years later, at age 36, I was inspired to try to get back in after finishing reading a motivational book. I seriously thought there was no way, but the motivational book gave me the push to try, and by the end of the week, I was back in the Navy. It was crazy. I loved being back in but didn’t need a career, so I didn’t make one of it. I just enjoyed the adventure. I worked as a Yeoman and got out right after 9-11 happened. When I got out I returned to living an adventurous life all over the US, like I’d done previously, and eventually ended up moving to the Philippines. I’ve been living here since 2018 a much happier and better life than I ever lived in the U.S. as the cost of living here is so much lower. But my life was certainly more adventurous and full of a lot more life experiences living in the US. As humans we have a wonderful superpower, the ability to choose our future. The ability to custom design our lives. Yet so many people don’t engage their superpower. Keep engaging. Full speed ahead.

What a great post! I too am certain that I made a great decision by joining the Navy I received so much more than I actually gave. I learned many useful principles or virtues in the Navy and then applied them to achieve goals like getting a college degree. I have benefited from my decision to join the military in both obvious and subtle ways and I have grown spiritually as well so I am grateful and proud to have served. You are very inspiring, and I am glad I happened upon this channel. I have been working as a preceptor/ counselor supervisor at a substance abuse rehab program (SARP) at a Naval base in San Diego; I started watching these videos to learn more about the Navy and about the sailors I am working with. I think a lot of people don't open up and talk about their life the way you did due to the unfortunate stigma of discussing anything related to mental health. That stigma will only go away when more people such as you talk the way you have. It not only normalizes it, but lets others know it is okay to do so. This has been the most impactful of all of your videos I have watched so far, and I wish I had seen this one first. It makes me appreciate all your other videos even more. Thank you for so generously and bravely sharing your story with all of us. I will better be able to do my job because of it.

I just started watching your videos today, as my son left for RTC great lakes 2 weeks ago. I have been watching your videos to get a better sense of what he is experiencing as we have not recived our first call yet, only just got the post card with the graduation info on it, and he didn't put his mailing info on it so I had to call the recruter to get it. His mother and I have written letters and sent off the first batch earlier this week after we got the mailing address, one of the things I made sure to tell him was I lost my job on the day we took him to meps, luckily I got a new job less then a week later, but I made sure to tell him that in my first letter, so that he would not worry and make his life harder in boot camp. After watching your videos, I will be sure and tell him some of the info you have stated (like not taking the desserts etc) to make his experienence as good as possible. After watching this video, I have to say that I found it very moving and I am happy that you have found what you needed in your life to be happy. I also want to thank you for the videos as it has made it more clear what my son is experiencing and helps with how much we miss him and are looking forward to getting the I'm a sailor call and seeing him graduate. I think you are a squared away individual and wish you the best. Thanks again for your videos.

To be proud you need to prove yourself. I got drafted straight out of High School in 1973 and at period of time there was not much going on except Drugs and Violence so I went into the US-Navy and it changed my life forever. Good job, It's odd to me how much we have in common. I also was a Master at Arms , my father passed when I was just 20. The Navy saved me from being 3rd generation trailer trash. Just a suggestion from an old sailor. If you are looking to "Escape the Gate" have you thought about HP or expeditionary ? (MSRON) in my day.

What you're doing is wonderful and it's an incredible insight of what enlistees are about to walk into. I went through Parris Island during the Tet offensive and what you describe is often universal with all military branches. And pointing out that nobody will sleep for several days was correct! Because Boot camp is where peace and quiet got lost.

I grew up very similar, Raised by my great grandparents only income was social security in a trailer in rural Pennsylvania. No license until i was 21 job etc, Took my a long time to repair myself mentally after living in such poverty. But now im 24 - truck driver making a good living and married. losing weight and getting fit to join the navy!
