Here I talk about how Jurassic Park 3 really changed Site B or Isla Sorna as it's called. Basically before Jurassic World the lore of the 2nd island was altered a lot and now that Jurassic World 3 is supposedly moving to Hawaii, I wanted to speculate on what type of island we may see in the next movie. Sam Neill will hopefully learn not to accept any blank checks from strangers this time though! Hope you all enjoy! :D

Because of how different the environments were between the two films, I had always gone with the theory that TLW and JP3 took place on two different regions of Sorna, so I had just cut them some slack for that.
@1Morey
@1Morey 4 жыл бұрын
It does make sense though, with TLW being more in the north with JP 3 being in the southern region of the island. In TLW, you'll notice in the night scenes, characters' breath can be seen, which highlights the fact that that region of the island gets cold enough to see one's breath. And later on in the movie, it is explained that the survivors need to get off a cliffside to reach the Worker Village, and the outskirts of the field of grass is where we see the palm trees. We see more tropical vegetation along the beach where Cathy was attacked by the compies, and also at the end of TLW (which those scenes in particular were shot in Hawaii.) Coincidentally, this is how Nublar looks in the novels. The Northern region of the island has pine forests, and the southern regions were tropical.

@@1Morey To be fair...this is what it's like here in Hawaii too. It's kinda jungly in the lowlands and as you get higher in elevation it gets all piney. And that's not even taking into consideration that the island vegetation is pretty different between the windward and leeward sides of the mountains too. For example, it's pretty jungly or grasslandy here on Kauai's east coast.... But the West side is dry cactus scrublands and high elevation swamps. So it's not hard for me to imagine that Sorna's vegetation is different based on where on the island they are.

Personally, I always preferred the look of the largely Temperate Forests of Isla Sorna, it really helped differ it from Isla Nublar. I know both islands are in a Tropical climate, off the coast of Costa Rica, so maybe it should have been Tropical, but it did make it look a bit too similar to Isla Nublar. Regardless, I can hardly wait to see JWIII.

I think that redwoods we’re just grown by InGen on the Lost World side of the island, to make it look like prehistoric times. Redwoods don’t naturally grow there anyway. It was probably left as jungle on the other side of the island, which is why it looks like Nublar.

I’m still going to be holding my theory that the lost world and Jurassic park 3 take place on different parts of sorna. Part of jp3 took on some locations of sorna like the worker village. Foliage grew more and since Half of TLW took place at night time, jp3 locations would look so erratic. That’s my opinion

@Klayton Fioriti I suspect that the vegetation in the area of the Island featured in TLW was likely due to Hammond importing red wood trees and other plants from the west coast in order to “brighten up the place”. Like how there were heliconia flowers in JP the game. And as for why they hire so fast in such a short amount of time I suspect that’s due to Hammond creating genetically modified versions of those plants that can grow at an accelerated rate. Also this isn’t new to the lore as in the evolution of Clair it’s stated that all the vegetation on Isla Nublar was genetically modified to grow at a faster rate post Jurassic Park. Do you agree with my theory?

In the Return to Jurassic Park DLC for JW Evolution it kind of explained that Isla Sorna was chosen as the factory floor due to its many diverse ecosystems which it had which was utilised by Ingen to insure the dinosaurs wouldn't die or be uncomfortable in a wrong habitat.

It always made sense to me that they’d be two separate parts of that huge island because in the most world they land by boat and in the third they land by plane which makes sense as to why the third movie was a lot closer to the ingen base an airstrip would fit right on the outskirts of a base to bring in supplies and personal whereas the lost world they didn’t go to the ingen base until halfway through because they made the trek from the sea inland

Imagine in Dominion, Grant and Owen go to Isla Sorna and they come across the plane and the T-Rex skeleton from JP3 and it gives Grant a bit of a PTSD flashback of the Spino and Owen asks what happened. That'd be a cool scene. Also it'd be a great moment where Owen says to Grant "The real reason I wanted to work with raptors was because of you, Dr Grant" while they're getting to know each other for something like going to Sorna. Give Grant that memory of when he told Eric about the Astronaut and the Astronomer.

When I was little I didn’t really notice the differences of Site B between t two movies but as I got older, the inconsistencies started bothering me. Since they’re both canon, I’ve grown used to the idea of both of them taking place in different biomes of the island. That the side where JP3 takes place is the native grounds and the other half where TLW took place was made that way (think JPOG or JWE where you flatten everything and plant what you want) for some type of research purposes like seeing how the dinosaurs reacted to different environments and vegetation. Doesn’t really make sense but it’s what I told myself just so it seemed a bit more neat and not like JP3 was executed as the most inconsistent thing in the world

I think the filming in Hawaii because of either a flash back, an establishing shot/scene in the film where everything is confirmed to be dead on Nublar, or a final scene showing Claire and Owen successfully moving some dinos to the sanctuary island brought up in Fallen Kingdom
@amanb8698
@amanb8698 3 жыл бұрын
They are already filming in Northern California due to the Fallen Kingdom ending, so its a good possibility that in addition to having areas based in Northern California, they may have gone to some areas from the Isla Sorna Lost World, for new scenes or flashbacks, which are in reality also there, but for the film universe on Isla Sorna plus with Hawaii filming, maybe they will have an expanded Isla Sorna scene, and a flashback to Isla Sorna JP3 and Isla Nublar scenes. The two areas are on different parts of the Island. The highlands, uplands, are from the Lost World, and the Jungle lowland, river basin is from JP3. This type of environment can be found on the real world island of Maui where they transplanted Redwoods to the highlands specifically Polipoli Springs State Park and Cloud Forest, and its also way more temperate and has cooler weather with ferns, other trees, tan fields, and low and high grasses found, and low land areas have a normal Hawaiian jungle vegetation, warmer temperature, and tropical look with waterfalls, palm trees, jungle trees, jungle vines, and a variety of plants. Elevation, position of elevated area to moisture, and more rain higher up in cloud range, can change climate which influences the temperature which then in turn creates a difference in Flora from Lowland elevations. And this isn't entirely out of normality, it happens on Maui, in the real world. The Redwoods on Isla Sorna were said to be first planted by Banana Plantation companies before Ingen bought the island, and as the climate support them, they grew, and spread. The Worker Village had many flat grass fields which indicate area probably formerly used as a farming or plantation area. The jungle areas have little human interference, other than the animals released by ingen and the few installations and secret installations they had on the Island, which is why they illegally cloned the Dinosaurs not on the list, such as a Spinosaurus, and a newer type of raptor that created a tribe apart from the lost world raptor tribe. As to why the Lost World Harvesters and Ingen Hunters didn't see these newer dinosaurs is that they didn't exist in 1997, and were bred illegally in 1999 when Masrani took over Ingen operations under direction of Dr. Wu. Spino can be seen as an early hybrid, bred after the other illegal species, but ultimately instead of getting rid of the their hybrid they left it and it destroyed the local ecosystem setting up the events for why they needed to hastly relocate the survivors back to Isla Nublar. The Spino was put down but the research on the Spino led to the Indomonius Rex and IndoRaptor hybrids. A hyper aggressive super predator for military purposes and ultimate profit. The JP3 raptors hint at the Raptor in JW series, and probably were a prototype of them as well. So there was a return to the Islands in 1999 and the experiments were conducted in old facilities located on the lowlands away from the majority of the dinosaurs in the highlands. The Pterodons at the Lost World end probably came from the same Aviary and were ones that broke out young but were a different type than the ones in JP3, or were set loose at a young age prior during the evacuation from the Hurricane and order to abandon the island. The ones said to be caught in Canada by Hoskins and Ingen Security were the same ones from the end of JP3. So they do connect and tie into the newer films. However there is still shady stuff going on there, and since Spino is confirmed dead, along with other species, hopefully JW3 will show us what Dr.Wu was and is up to on Sorna.

It seems fairly well established, at least in fan canon, that they were two totally separate parts of Isla Sorna. The different species seen in both movies also help this theory. Perhaps the Mamenchisaurs, Pachycephalosaurs, and Gallimimus preferred the drier, redwood forests and scrubland while others like Brachiosaurus preferred wetter, more lush environments which is why the former appear in one and the latter in the other. Likewise Parasaurolophus, Triceratops, and Stegosaurus were possibly more adaptable to both biomes. It's also not unrealistic IMO for InGen to have had more than one compound if Sorna was as big as it seems to be in the movie canon.

It makes since that smaller dinos would be bred on nublar for show,while the main work was done else where. It would be easier to be sneaky on an island while everyone is distracted by nublar. Revisiting Isla Sorna would be an interesting decision but all life on Sorna is most likely extinct due to the illegal cloning of a Spinosaurus. However as Ian Malcolm said "life finds a way" so maybe the animals on Sorna may have figured out a way to survive or maybe the DPG is withholding information information about Sorna to keep the island isolated from the public.

Carlos Rosas you mean the government? If the DPG found that out they’d probably release it to the public to get more support for helping the dinosaurs.

Great content Thank god I am not a botanical expert, I never noticed the environment change at all until I saw this video, which is good because I loved TLW back in the day but now that you mention it, the "jungle" doesn't look as jungulish.

I know Trespasser has its inconsistencies but its interesting that even that game has the gradual look change from level one to the last and that was even before JP3 threw the wrench in there.

If you read the novel version of Jurassic Park Isla Nublar actually has different environments; up north has pine trees and down south has a classic jungle. So you can say that movie Isla Sorna acts the same way, which is my personal belief.

Hey, Klayton, always good to listen to you! I'd like to ask you a question: taking into account how little JPIII adds to the series and how troubled and non-believable its plot is, what would you think of the idea of a possible remake for this film? Think about all the blank points and unanswered questions, the absurd coincidences that keep the plot going, the poor choices they made for the final script... I think all these problems could be solved with a well-done remake, maybe with a length of 2 hours like every other chapter. I mean, it's not like I demand it, and it will probably never happen, but if that does happen... What do you think?
@KlaytonFioriti

I'm sure some people would be interested but even though it's my least favorite film I think it's best to just leave it alone. Maybe a new film that explains that films oddities, but I wouldnt want a remake personally

@Klayton Fioriti I don’t know why but when I watched Fallen Kingdom Wheatley reminded me of sergeant gunnery hartman from Full metal Jacket and I don’t know why? 😂 I guess it’s because ted Levine looks similar to R. Lee Ermy and because he says things that Sargent gunny would have said in Full metal jacket or something that R. Lee Ermy would have said in his show on the history channel. Did you think that way when you rewatched Fallen Kingdom because I just see more similarities. P.S also this is quite funny to me because Vincent Denofrio the actor who played private Pyle in Full metal jacket plays Hoskins in Jurassic World.

I have a theory: whatever dinosaurs survive on the mainland by the end of JW3 will be captured and shipped to Sorna, where it will be discovered that something has survived. It will end on both a happy and unsettling note, the dinosaurs get to survive apart from humans, but there will always be the possibility of them getting back on the mainland... Or their diseases escaping the island...

The possibility Sorna will appear in JW3 makes me really happy, after they just sort of glossed over it in Fallen Kingdom. Lockwood referenced it once & the rest of the film they treated it like Nublar had the only dinosaurs left. I hope its appearance explains some of the burning questions Fallen Kingdom left us about the island.
@AndrewMcColl
@AndrewMcColl 4 жыл бұрын
This is one thing that confused me during Fallen Kingdom. Lockwood wants to move the animals to a brand new island, but why not just move them to Sorna? There's an island right next door they could live on, or did Masrani restart operations on that island as a 'backup' to Nublar?

It's funny, I think the look of TLW Sorna is really cool, because it looked like the woods around where I grew up in Northern California, to the point that as a child, I was convinced I'd run into a dinosaur hiking out there! But scientifically, the jungle look of JP3 makes more sense doesn't it? Any islands in that area of the world probably would look tropical instead of North American redwoods, right?

It's not unrealistic for an island to have multiple biomes with in it. I similarly thought that Isla sorna looks different in Jurassic Park 3 because they were on a different part of the island, like the worker village and the genetics lab or two different stations

Besides the usual *different part of the Island*-Explanation which most People (including myself) accept, I could also just see it as *reinventing it's own style over time* not much different to what Mortal Kombat does with each new game. they just do a different design style with each part to Keep the product interesting and fresh which I really didn't mind in JP3

I've already got location ideas for PaleoPrime... 1st movie: Kuat, congo jungle & grass lands & an Australian jungle river 2nd movie: British Columbian forest, east coast forests where red wolves are, a snowy mountain or 2 in Europe & Iberian Spain province. 3rd movie: somewhere in New Zealand where it's warm enough

Isla sorna is indeed much very different from both films of jurassic Park but I do still quite like how sorna is very different from the lost world jurassic Park. In fact I do still quite wondered if the ecosystem of the island is from sandy beaches that were almost covered in much vegetation of the jungles to redwood forests that even remind of Muir woods that was also the film locations for some movies including the rebooted series of planet of the apes.

If they're filming Sorna scenes on Hawaii it might be to look more different to any scenes set in northern California with the dinosaurs on the mainland. I remember in Batman vs Superman I found it very hard to tell when we were in Gotham and when we were in Metropolis. Perhaps JW6 wants to avoid doing something similar.

Isla Sorna landscape can draw some similarities to the south island of New Zealand. I was there in late 2018, most of the island was more temperate foliage and landscape (forests, mountains, etc.) But on the north west coast prior to the mountains it is a tropical jungle setting. I did a full day hike and even on this hike the landscape changed from tropical to temperate, so it is not entirely out of the question that Sorna can have different landscapes, pending where mountain ranges are which dramatically can change the climate. When I started the hike I felt like I was on Isla Nublar or the JP3 environment, by the end of my hike I felt like I was more in the Lost World. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJXZfZlsh7R3Zsk

If Site B isn't going to be in JW3, I think they are in Hawaii filming a flashback to 1993 Isla Nublar where a BioSyn agent takes the shaving cream can soon after or during the events of the 1st movie, like in Jurassic Park the Game.
