Just like Kaguya, Hayasaka's expressions are also rich. She also uses both keigo and plain forms to deal with Kaguya and it's pretty funny. But these things are lost in translation. So if you want to learn Japanese with me, I can send you some Japanese lessons where I teach you the kind of Japanese that Japanese people actually speak. Click here and subscribe bit.ly/3hYEzwX

Your Keigo / non-Keigo explanation helped me notice that in Bunny Girl Senpai, Kaede (the main character's sister) uses Keigo while her memories are missing and the reason Sakuta notices that she's "changed" back to her old self in the last episode is because she suddenly stops talking with Keigo.

Hey Yuta, Myuki is a poor guy from a poor family. He's a hyper performer in school and that's why he got scholarship. The school is of people of high social caliber. I think that's why everyone is polite and extra polite with everyone, so to not get on the bad side of anyone and/or to show their own social status as a person of high education, I think. Like nobility and their fancy pants.

It is a wrong understanding that Miyuki is poor and therefore does not use polite language. It is true that upper class people often use honorifics out of respect for each other, but Miyuki's language is the norm because he is the chairman of the board and above many students.

In the anime, they explain that Miyuki got into the academy simply because of his good grades, compared to everybody else who was put there by their social status/families. So, I think your second assumption about Miyuki not using Keigo is correct: it's because he didn't have the fancier upbringing.

To be fair, some of the dramatic lines you're talking about are just her in Miyuki's imagination. So it makes sense that the lines are dramatic because his imagination is picturing something he's afraid will happen blown out of proportion. (Also yes Miyuki is from a poor upbringing and got into the school and his position with hard work, so that's why his language isn't as fancy).

Even if you don't actually speak (much) Japanese but have watched (listened to) enough of it over the years, you'll get a whole lot out of the Japanese audio, despite having to rely on the subtitles to understand most of what's going on. This video was quite interesting with the level of detail in your explanations. Even though I could, kind of, tell the difference between that extra polite language and normal language, I didn't know the specifics. Fortunately I'm from a country where dubs are only a thing for little children's movies/TV shows, and nature documentaries (which children also watch), so I could always enjoy anime with subtitles, being able to listen to the beautiful Japanese audio. Finnish and Japanese both use vowels a lot, so there's strange similarity in how they can sound despite no connection between the languages.

3:50 there are some reason why Miyuki speaks "normal" while everyone speaks formal with him. Miyuki is the president of the Student Council. He represents the Student Council with Kaguya, Chika Fujiwara and Yu Ishigami. Hey Yuta! Im Japanese and I live in the US! I often see people on TIkTok saying how they're a weeb but they dont really know the meaning behind it. Can you make a video about it? Weebs are looked down on in Japan and I want to make sure when they visit Japan they wont embarrass themselves よろしく!!

Errr note this video kinda has some minor spoilers...... Anyhoo great series of how anime characters speak Japanese. Suggestion/Request: Another Kaguya-sama video but focus on the honorifics eg 1 - Chika to Miyuki: Miyuki-kun, 2 - Kaguya to Miko: Iino-san, 3 - Kaguya to Moeha: Moeha-san (S02E02) but Moeha only (S03E10) 4 - Kaguya to Kei: Wanted initially Shirogane-san, then Kei-san, then Kei-chan then just Kei. Also Please do Itsuki Nakano from the quintessential quintuplets or any or all the 7 main characters in TQQ. how they speak Japanese I believe is very important to understanding the plot eg the honorifics, the lost in translation stuff (eg when they say things like tsurui, hatsukoi, uso, etc that are removed from the dub). I compiled a lot of the lost in translation stuff in r/gotoubun

My own language, Spanish, as many European languages, but not English, have two second person forms, one coloquial and one polite, so in some of the Spanish translations, I noticed that Kaguya was using the formal second person with his friends, and find it very odd. Today you make me release that those translations are the most accurate ones.

Could you do an analysis on how Servants in the Fate series speak? Most of them are not Japanese and are from very different cultures so I think it could be interesting to take a look at. For simplicity's sake, we could just look at Saber in Fate/stay night. I don't speak Japanese so I can't tell much of a difference, but she definitely sounds different than the native Japanese Master characters. All I can tell w/out knowing the language is that she doesn't use honorifics and will almost always call someone by their given name.

Hey Yuta, as a suggestion, I'd love to see a video where you ask elderly people in Japan about their thoughts on other cultural influences in japan, i.e. english words or phrases used in japanese media. It would be interesting to see how nationalistic/conservative the older generations are. Thanks :)
