As a Leverkusen fan who has watched him ever since he became German champion with our U17 team I have some thoughts on this. Obviously I am a little biased here as Kai is a product of our youth academy, is roughly the same age as me and here in Leverkusen he was seen as this once-in-a-generation talent (until Florian Wirtz came around). When he was just 17, he saved us from relegation during our worst season since 2002/03 and was our star man and pride ever since. From what I've seen of him in Leverkusen, his best position would be a classic number 10 role. He has good positioning (great awareness of space), decent finishing, can play very good passes (often resulting in assists or pre-assists) and had good play making abilities. Of course, this is a position which is kinda dying out in the modern game. In our fan base he was often compared to MIchael Ballack (of course another club legend) or Mesut Özil in terms of play style. And I think the Özil comparison fits well. They both have the problem of their body language, that they always seem almost too cool, like they don't really care, which causes them to be perceived a bit more negatively than other placers would be under the same circumstances. Undoubtedly, his best period was the second half of the 2018/19 season, the first half season under Peter Bosz when he formed a brilliant partnership with Julian Brandt (who to this day is a very close friend of Kai). During that half season, he was part of a midfield triangle with Charles Aranguiz as a holding number 6 and Havertz and Brandt playing an offensive number 8/10, combining beautifully with Havertz and Brandt setting each other up wonderfully. I haven't followed him too closely those recent years as I only really follow the Bundesliga (obviously, I was very happy about him scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final) and am a bit sad that he perceived this controversially in England. I do think he is not utilized in an ideal position. He did play the number 9 role for us as well a couple times, but it is clearly not an ideal role for him. He could probably function as a supporting striker behind a classical number 9, but as a "sole" striker, he is lacking a bit in terms of physical presence and finishing. Anyway, long rant, hope I could contribute constructively to this debate in any way!

I see havertz as a raumdeuter he's understands of 10 is all over the place considering he can shadow a striker while also playmaking but he doesn't have a speciality in offense which like mount makes him a jack of all trades he should have his own role in the squad he needs the raumdeuter role

Physical presence doesn't seem to be his problem now, he's grown to near 6' 4" and shrugged off Ruben Diaz in the Community Shield recently where Arsenal beat Man City. His problem seems to be one of confidence, he's not showing for the ball or being prepared to carry it and run aggressively towards goal to make something happen. Havertz is being used in a deeper role, so the #9 excuse no longer washes. Arsenal is a team all about movement and constantly going forward, so if his body language and his play doesn't improve, I cannot see how Arteta has any choice but to bench him, otherwise his burden is going to bring the entire team down.

Honestly Nketiah was terrible until he started getting a run of games around April 2021. Viera had rough appearances off the bench but yesterday he single-handedly grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck in a way only Odegaard and Nelson have carried in the last 12 months. My point is, I've put up with the worst as an Arsenal fan, I can survive with 7 points from 9 games and Havertz being a bit of a wierdo between the lines.

Nketiah was 21/22 not being consistent. Vieira coming from a new league was always going to need a season no matter what fans thought. Odegaard and Nelson and really all the players youve listed have at the bare minimum shown a dedicated, desire to improve along with some semblance of technical ability. Havertz looks embarrasingly out of place. I'm sorry but the reality is we are trying to challenge the moster that is Man City. We don't have time for a 65mill player who has been in England for 3 seasons now to flop. He needs to be benched until he can prove to the coach he deserves to be here. There are so many midfielders behind Havertz that deserve that gametime more, and I'm picking Jesus or Nketiah as our 9 over time too.

As a Chelsea fan I can evaluate that Kai’s best position is when he is a second striker to a number 9. As vizeh said in his first season, he had Werner to link up with hence scoring the winning goal in Porto and showed promise. In his second he showed promise as TT played a 4-2-2-2 or 4-4-2 with lukaku and Werner where he scored like 10+ goals and assists in all comps.

For me Havertz is definitely a CAM (no. 10). He played many games as Striker or CF and even some as RW, but with no one in front of him or around him, just all being behind him, he was struggling a lot. There was nobody to link the play with or (and more importantly in my opinion) to play off the players. The champions league goal is a perfect example. Werner did most of the work really, by dragging Dias with him wide and opening a massive gap for Havertz. Werner created actually a lot of opportunities like this and without this advantage to his play Havertz was seriously struggling. Chelsea kept playing him as False 9 and it wasnt working at all, but they didnt have anyone else for that position either so they went with it and it was a terrible decision. It changed how he behaved on the pitch and ultimately made him worse imo, because he just lost what he had... or rather changed it for worse. They weren't playing for his strengths at all. His best plays are always - as mentioned in the video - cutting inside, using space created by his teammates, link up plays, etc. but in Chelsea he was always at the end of crosses, the last player in front of the goal, etc. which is the opposite of what he excels at. Combine this with his inconsistency and you have a recipe for disaster.

@@wengelder9256 or it could be that the position he is best at just doesnt have place in modern style football that most teams play. Take for example Beckenbauer who even today would be insane as a player on his own, but his style was rather aggressive attacking as a defender... that position today is non-existent as it would get abused a lot, but that doesnt mean he would be a bad player. It can be same for Havertz in a sense that he is best for using space created by other players and playing as CAM... but in todays football people look more for CAMs like Odegaard or more attacking player or creative player and style of Havertz in that position just doesnt fit the playstyle for a player on that position. Instead of shaping the whole team and style to fit him, they are just trying to shape him up to the overall style they need and that is the part which is not working.

I think that Havertz’s style of play is almost ten years too late: Styles evolve a lot and a 4-3-3 with lone/false strikers seems to be the most trendy tactic on the go with many world class sides like Man City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, PSG etc using them. I don’t think that this suits Havertz because his best role is as a sort of ‘shadow striker’. While not needing a specific formation to flourish, to get the most out of his channel play, he needs to be an attacking midfielder who plays of off a proper number 9 An example of a team that he would have been excellent in is in Ozils position in Real Madrids 2011/12 side or Liverpools 2013/14 side. However, few contemporary teams operate a similar system. That is Havertz’s biggest flaw, as he always struggles in a team whose system isn’t catered to his strengths. He was effective at Leverkusen because they knew he was their most talented player and so were willing to work the tactics around him. Most elite teams today though use a high pressing system where positions are fluid and no individual player is used as the focal point of an attack. I could be completely wrong, but I can’t help feeling that Havertz would have been utterly world class in the late 00’s and early 2010’s

Movement and spatial awareness coupled with unpredictability - that's an underrated and potentially gamechanging combination. One such player can make a team unplayable. Look at Thomas Müller. Bayern is on fire when HE is on fire. Btw like Havertz, he also excels at being a defensive attacker. So let's say Kai Havertz is the heir to the throne of the Raumdeuter. Thing is, Thomas Müller is a master communicator. He's Radio Müller after all. He's the conductor ordering Bayern's players around the field. He's the soul of Bayern's dressing room. Havertz is a comparatively quiet guy. Whatever it is that is going on in his oddball intellectual head (do any other players play the piano or run bloody donkey sanctuarys as hobbies?), he probably needs to translate it more to his teammates, be a lot more vocal. There is an off-switch to Müller, by the way. When he doesn't enjoy himself, everything feels forced and stilted. Müller needs to smile, that's when he's dangerous. Maybe Havertz needs to unlock the joker inside him and not be so serious about himself, laugh more on the pitch and then his inventive play will gel more. Müller can play passes that are like pranks played on the opposition. Havertz needs to allow himself to be cheeky.

He reminds me a lot of Muller in that it never seemed quite clear what his best attribute was or what his role should be. The thing is, Muller actually seemed to have mastered the art of the 'free' role, in terms of how he attacked space - which sounds kinda vague, but it made sense with Muller because he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, which is what people mean when they say 'movement' is your best attribute. He got lots of vital goals and assists wihtout ever being an outright 10, 9 or winger. Unfortunately for Havertz hes not as good as Muller, so its hard to justify him playing a 'free role'. The best comparison I can make is how we can see Salah is a RW, but it might be more accurate to say he is a player who mainly attacks from the right side of the pitch but during the match he will drift along depending on where the space opens up.

As a Chelsea fan, I'm reeeeally trying hard to reserve judgement on every attacking player we let go this transfer window since nobody looked good on attack for about a season and a half. My hope, for their sakes, was that it came down to management and chemistry. But I always had the nagging feeling we just had a generation of attackers who weren't elite at anything, other than Werner's elite speed. if you watch the highlights of the video, he's able to go 1v1 when he receives the ball facing the sidelines or the opponent's half. When his body is facing away, he has trouble receiving, turning and beating defenders. I started following him when he first went to Chelsea, what was unique about his playstyle was his fluidity in dribbling, passing, and ability to find spaces which was amazing. However, it was very frustrating to watch him because you realize that he was not good at making shots on target considering his position as a forward. Albeit fluid, there was always an absence of intensity to him, and it always felt like he didn't really have the hunger to triumph over the opponent. And he tended to back pass instead of bringing the ball forward. You know things are not right in a team when your forward has less goals than your midfield players, consistently.

I feel like we could try to use him as a left half space counterpart to Odegaard. Odegaard will often drop deep to assist buildup but he tends to do this on the right with Saka. Last season Xhaka would make runs into the left half space to create overloads. Honestly I think it would be worth trying to get him to link up with Martinelli

The answer is simple...he is a Klopp player. He needs to be playing in pressing team, and a quick counter attacking setup around him. I also always saw him as a wide attacker who plays one twos with the full backs.

Havertz was absolutely amazing at Leverkusen eventhough he was still a teenager. Then he transfered to Chelsea playing as a striker which was not his position at Leverkusen at all. I think he can be a more than exceptional false 9/AM but he will have to get used to it again. He‘s not gonna do it over night, maybe never, maybe his time at Chelsea wasted his potential to a point he‘s never gonna be able to do it again, but anyone who‘s seen him at Leverkusen knows he is more than a „jack of all trades, master of none“.

In this football atmosphere I see Kai as someone who has this rare attribute of not knowing where he fits in the system. Chelsea’s roundtable of managers obviously didn’t help this cause, but what I think Arteta is doing is make him someone like Bernardo Silva. Ball movement, press, initiate play, drop deep to bring ball forward. Rice is good for moving the ball forward but for some very high pressing sides like say Liverpool, you have to keep the possession and keep the opposition second guessing. If this works out, Kai would be someone who will be able to cover not only the passing lanes but also move the ball rapidly to switch the play against Arsenal’s favour. Genuinely think this is the reason he was signed . But I might be wrong.

He honestly reminds me of Thomas Müller, in that he doesn't fit any particular role on the pitch in the traditional sense. But unlike Havertz, Müller has been able to establish himself under various coaches because Bayern has had, more or less, an overarching footballing philosophy that has provided players with structure and discipline (at least up until recently one could argue). I think Havertz one day might actually fit in at Bayern in a Müller-like role if he can create the kind of space Müller can. A squad might not rly need him for much more than that, but of course that would come at the cost of a reduced valuation. I think Havertz was just misused at Chelsea, which isn't an uncommon phenomenon for players under the overrated Tuchel system, which isn't rly even a system at all as we've seen with his managing of Bayern; it's just chaotic and disorganized. (I can go on and on about how, at least I believe, Chelsea's UCL win has been heavily romanticized in hindsight **as any UCL win would** and relied greatly on circumstantially favorable outcomes for Chelsea that all just so happened to come into play at seemingly all the right moments... even insofar as the final itself. Tuchelball at Chelsea during the 2020-21 season in no way ever produced consistent performances from players **with the exception of a few, such as N'Golo Kanté** nor did it produce consistent results in all competition). Havertz needs structure, and structure was hard to come by under Tuchel. Hopefully he gets that kind of structure under Arteta.

Havertz as central CAM in a 4231 is the best fit for me, he is way to inconsistent to play him at striker, but he definetly has the playmaking ability to play more forward and the height to push in the box for crosses.

As a Chelsea fan the thing with Havertz is. i really hated his playing style at the beginning and couldn't understand why Tuchel kept using him until i realized that Haverts is actually a gem when the whole team is thriving and he gets to roam in the final third. He can't create something out of nothing like an Hazard or kdb he's not that kind of a player. But if u can use him probably u can get the best out of him. We saw it during the season Chelsea won the UCL. he thrives more in a 343 system with havertz playing behind werner and beside mount. we played more of an counter football. The likes of Reece James and Ben Chillwell were fullback at their best. Kante and jorghino were strong forces behind him. So basically he was free to roam from left to middle to right and he didn't really had a fixed position. so he could basically link up with everyone. and that's where i saw how good he is. In this Arsenal side and they way the play i don't think he is really needed because of the way they've set up in a fixed 433. Arteta has to change how the teams plays just for him to "free roam" it just doesn't work. I think he can really do well in a team like man city or bayern where certain players a allowed to free roam around the 10 area. And also for the people calling him sluggish and "lazy". if u can really utilize Havertz he instantly becomes a working machine. is weird i know. But In all of the Chelsea Champions league winning games. i think him and kante run the most distances each game. that should tell you that he's not lazy but just misunderstood. He isn't going to thrive in a 433. he needs to have that freedom in midfield to linkup with people. atm it just won't work at Arsenal. That doesn"t mean he's bad but just misunderstood. When i finally understood the system that suits him. he became on of my favorite players at Chelsea.

I have to say, I kind of agree with what has been pointed out in this video. Honestly, it might be the fact that Havertz never adapted to the Premiere League, or that he did not had the right players alongside him, but for that kind of money, which in my opinion were worth at that time, not as many footballers prices nowadays, for that kind of money you expect something different that not many players can bring to a football club. I also think that maybe, we as football fans, might get to attached to some players and that is why we get our hopes high and really want them to succeed at any time. Havertz is a likable person, I remember how hyped I was as a Chelsea fan to have both him and Werner at the club. But sooner rather than later we might want to see them succeed even more than we would celebrate our club winning a match. I remember when Chelsea won, but Havertz or Werner would not score I would say something like "damn, why wouldn't they got at least 1 of the goals, so they can prove their worth and start building some confidence". Havertz is a good player, if he wasn't one he wouldn't have played for both Chelsea and Arsenal, he just needs to find his own pace and set his own goals that will help his club achieve great things. After all, it is not impossible to get on top, but for sure it is really hard to stay on top.

The problem is, Havertz operates at his best in the half space on the right flank playing as a 10... which is also where odegaard is best so there's no room for him there. In my opinion this somewhat sets him up to fail at Arsenal.

Obviously I’m a Chelsea fan. Shortly after he arrived in 2020, I watched him score a hat trick in a Cup game against a div 2 or div 3 side. He was clinical in that game but gradually, he lost his way. I feel the physicality and pace of the league affected his self belief plus the fact that Lampard played him all over the field not knowing what to do with him. Tuchel narrowly tailored his position (as he did with every player) and he looked better and more useful. The season after we won the UCL, Kai looked like would kick on and was playing very well after Lukaku got injured and we were top of the league through late November/ early December when Kai got injured late in the first half away at West Ham (he played well up till then). Tuchel then had issues at home with his wife, Roman was sanctioned and some players like Kai, were negatively affected. No need to talk about Potter & Lampard 2nd regime b/c it didn’t help. Notwithstanding, my belief is young tall players sometimes need more time to understand how to get the most out of their big frame and tend to develop later than regular sized players. Also Coaching Stability is more of a need for bigger players than normal sized players. Arsenal is more stable in terms of managerial changes than Chelsea so there’s hope. The player is frustrating to watch but I like the player. This type of player cannot be shoehorned into a traditional “best position”. You have to think outside the box and implement a formation that works for him AND the team. Tuchel was on the right path until he was derailed by personal issues in his marriage.

Tuchel literally said himself that he didn't know what Havertz's best position was. He was never good for us under any manager. States prove it and eye test backs it up. Literally living off of 1 goal his entire Chelsea career. He was worse than bloody Werner and at least Timo tried and put in effort unlike that lazy donkey. Guy is decent at reading space and has good vision but that's pretty much it. He's rubbish at everything else and has no position. Can't shoot, can't finish, no composure, weak, doesn't use his height well, lacks the final pass, poor decision making, no athleticism and worst of all, he's a wimpy coward, physically and mentally. 65 million?! Chelsea fan here. Having watched him for the last 3 years, He is a second striker and his best attribute is his first touch. He is good at ‘doing the right things’ in a simple and elegant way. His best games for us were the two legs against real madrid in the ucl winning season, against dortmund and man city in the finals. In all of these games, we adopted a transition style and Havertz is a transition player who needs a style that utilizes his innate sense of space to the maximum. The problem with him is that, to get the best out of him, you have to change your entire system. He’s not someone who can fit to any system and look world class.

I think in all reality, Havertz needs time because playing him as a #9 for 3 years with several terrible managers does some damage to you as a player and I think it shows by the way he is too static and not willing to take chances, he looks very uncomfortable so far but he's still showed promise and he has several key passes and 6 chances created in 3 games. I do believe that as of right now someone should be starting over him in the lineup, but I think he should be a regular sub in games we have a handle on allowing him to find his own, experiment, and get comfortable. He already is very happy at Arsenal which is one step in the right direction. If anything the fan base needs to calm down and give Havertz a chance and look at this situation with a level head, it has only been 3 games after all.

He was played in every single suitable position possible but was not good enough almost everywhere. His most appropriate position seemed to be at the CF position with runners behind him to utilise his hold up play but we weren't able to provide him that. Kai Havertz (strictly from a performance stand point) reminds me a ton of Götze post BVB. His ability( despite what this video says) is exceptional. His movement is fantastic, he has great vision, he does have good ball handling and he has a very keen eye for goal. I think he does have that non-chalant “ I don’t care” vibe even when he does show passion. He could be world class and still think he will be but his best position would be a free roam #10 or a False 9 similar to Messi with Barça a here he has the freedom to move and flow with the attack and bring the game to other players

Kai Havertz's best position is a Raumdeuter. Roam around an elite striker, feed him or collect what's left over. Imagine a diamond formation, with a poacher up front. A classic #10, a holding six and two wide midfielders. Havertz then becomes the 2nd striker (Raumdeuter) who has the freedom to roam arround. He can fall back deep to collect the ball and feed the wide midfielders or the #10 while attacking the box late. Or if he's up front linger arround the box supporting the attacking midfielders and dragging defenders with him into space to open up passing lanes. If the defenders don't mark him, run into open space and create for himself or link up with the striker. But yeah in my head he can do a lot of things but i'm a simple armchair manager.

This is a (massive) issue in Germanys youth system. The same applies to Sane, Wirtz, Serge. If you ask 10 different people, they will give 3-4 different answers for each of them. Germany's garbagio youth set up is focusing jack of all trades, master of none offensive players. Unless it's about #9, #6, #1, or fullbacks, in which case it's just non-existent. Most people knew Kai should have waited a solid 2 seasons before leaving Leverkusen.

They are also never trash, just "off form". The truth is Havertz sucks as a footballer. Watched him at chelsea cause im a chelsea fan. watch a good amount of his leverkusen games his last season and never saw his hype. He plays similar to how he was at leverkusen, just that bundesliga clubs LOVES attacking. both teams do attack so havertz does have lot of counter attack chances. trust me, havertz is a dull player. you always think hes going to get better, but hes not. I think he is the sort of person that is a pet project or the managers son or “if I coach him I can unlock him” sort of player. I feel he must train really well so seems like a good pick. He has learned to get in position really well but then he doesn’t finish or just watches other players like the new kid trying to learn the magic. So there is a small chance he comes good but at the moment and half a season more will be ok but is being carried by the team as missing 30-50% of the possible result.

If Arteta sees Havertz play that LCM then Kai can do that. In one of either preseason or first game of the season interviews Mikel said that Xhaka learned how to play the position he played last season for almost two years and emphasized that Granit had not been able to do something even remotely close to what did last season before. So Kai is long term investment. I am sure playing in unstructured Chelsea under 4 or more different manages did its damage. Arteta will get him to learn that Xhaka position.

Havertz is a hybrid 10/right sided forward. He needs a forward that occupies centre backs who can hold up the ball and run. He is good in the air too. You need to play 2 up front problem is Chelsea and now Arsenal rarely play that way

Havertz for me can only be used as a free role player. You need players all around him doing everything and have him floating around, coming into the ball after the CF lays it off, interchanging with the RW or arriving late in the box. As a player, Havertz needs to improve his decision making, and his final finish. In terms of which position he is best played in, he thrives as an attacking midfielder, who plays as a second striker behind the main center forward.

His best position is playing a slightly higher center mid (free) role he excels when on the ball. He is also not an out an out attacker. He does find himself in lots of useful positions. I think if he was on the ball in the positions he favors, and was allowed to get into flow of the game more. he would be more comfortable on the pitch which would lead him to snatching at less opportunities he would also generate less chances. But there would more then likely be a trade off. The more comfortable and confident he is in his own game the more likely he is to putt the ball in the back of the net and although he would see less chances I bet his conversion numbers sky rocket with a bit of confidence. He is definitely lacking in confidence. And no matter what He definitely isn’t a false nine or a second striker. Playing out of position for so long at Chelsea definitely fucked with his attitude and self confidence.

Unfortunately he was shoe horned in at Chelsea and so felt a little sorry for him… He isn’t a striker, he lacks the pace or the strength to run the channels or get in behind… and he ain’t a midfielder because he lacks the dynamism or stamina. I think its more a case that there are clear systems and positions within that system, none of which suit Havertz, he doesn't have an archetype. Having him in a free role at the edge in the third quarter of the pitch would suit him best, but he no manager wants to built a team around 1 player, and if they did Havertz isnt the kind of player to get that treatment. I also think expectations need to shift. He isn't a really striker, if he doesn't score goals that fine, being a more progressive player around the edge of the box to create chances and initiate presses is probably what he'll be doing, and with Ødergaard, Nketie and Trossard, its flexibility and depth Arsenal didn't have last year, which lost them the title.

His most successful time at Chelsea came when he was played with Abraham. He’s not a 10 or a 9, he’s more of a second striker. Like timo werner, laturo Martinez and Nkunku. However he’s a second strikers that only works with a specific kind of striker in front of him unlike the other players I mentioned. It doesn’t matter who Nkunku, Martinez play with they still gonna eat. But with Havertz I think it’s essential what kind of striker it is. Out of all the striker he played with at Chelsea it worked the best with Abraham. So if arsenal go get Oshimen for example because he’s very similar to Abraham I think Havertz would thrive.

People are frustrated by Havertz because when you turn on the TV you see his quality he's 6'4" silky on the ball, quite creative, works hard, and is great off the ball when attacking from deeper. As a chelsea fan he seemed misutilized besides probably his first year under tuchel. I really think he'd fit well in city's box midfield beside debruyne and I see that Arteta is trying to do something similar. Havertz ultimately needs to find a week in and out consistency though or he will always be looked at as a disappointment for his ability.

Hejust needs time. He was asked to perform out of his best role during his entire tine at Chelsea with little manager continuity. And now at Arsenal Arteta is asking him to perform an extremely complex role to which he has to adapt, but no just him also his teamates. They need to learn to pass the ball to him between the lines, to exploit the space vacated because of his movement, to launch long ball to him to fight for the second balls, to attack the box when he pins the CBs when the ball is in wide areas near the box. What is he good at? He's the kind of player that at his best, he looks pretty good at everything. And you're right. One attribute does not stand out over everything else. And when he's in bad form you wonder what he *can* do? Whether he can do anything at all. Unfortunately his best has rarely been seen in England. As for his position, I'd have to say he's a central 10 if I had to pick one but he's pretty vague positionally and you get those players sometimes. Mount is a bit like that IMHO and Oxlade - Chamberlain too.

To me he's closest to Thomas Muller and suffers from the same "problem" of not having a fixer position. He could be a raumdeuter and I bet he would be cooking in Bayer rn. However that's a very rare role and not many teams and coaches knos how to use it. He would need to have a team built around him and most times that hasn't happened

I will always keep saying this about how to get the best of Havertz. Watch him at Leverkusen and his best position is the #10 role. He doesn't have the technical ability nor the tactical understanding to play as a false 9 or a striker. It's early days in the Premier League season to judge Havertz at Arsenal but Arteta still have no idea how to get the best of Kai Havertz. Play him in his natural or best position and he will explode with goals and assists.

I really feel he should go to Bayern if he doesnt make it at Arsenal. On his day , he plays very zidane esque but as an attacking midfielder , they call that a 10 these days. Very one touch , and clever movements between space. Hopefully he recaptures that form.

Havertz is a Raumdeuter in a modern game where a luxury player like that rarely thrives in a side competing for top hardware. He works well as a counterpresser and to create overloads in his beloved left half-space, so he's not quite as big an anachronism as players like Özil, Isco, and Joao Felix. Can Arsenal carry a Raumdeuter in their 4-3-3 shape that Arteta favors? It depends! The 2-3-5 shape they play in possession could become a 2-2-6 if Rice and Partey play a double pivot, but that usually means sending Ødegaard forward to link with Saka and the striker, and that leaves Havertz stuck playing either way up front, or he's got to come off the bench. Alternatively, if you don't use Partey as a right back (and you ought not to!), you could constitute your 2-2-6 with Zinchenko stepping in to a midfield role in possession. Havertz is then free to explore space and make late runs, yes, but you lose the best of Zinchenko's ball progressing qualities! I think this signing was made specifically for a team that has Jurriën Timber at LB, who is more of a dribbling threat than a passing one, and his destroyed knee throws Arteta back to the drawing board. Keep exploring, Kai. We'll find... Some... Use for you.

If we are being completely honest, Kai Havertz needs to be playing in a 4-3-2-1, wide enough where he can cut in and score, central enough to link up play albeit with a striker ahead of him......
