As an arsenal fan, I was and remain excited by the potential, but struggle with the logic of the signing given the price tag and player’s form. This video’s analysis only further confirms my confusion. If we were willing to spend 60mil, surely a slightly bigger outlay on Tonali (who has more backwards /retreating defense aptitude), or Diaby (who has been in greater attacking / creative / goal scoring form) would’ve been better signings at similar prices. Likewise, Maddison, whom we’ve been linked with before, was gettable for 20 mil less, and has more demonstrated success as a versatile attacking mid / winger in the prem, with the skills to operate as a false 9 if needed. Given that we already have Nketiah who can play traditional striker, and Trossard to function as a false 9 / depth winger, 60 mil seems a very exorbitant gamble for us. I understand how his physical profile elements potentially help our aerial dominance and Arteta’s apparent desire to build a more physically imposing side… but surely if we were gambling on potential, Szobozolai (to whom we’ve also had prior links) would’ve ticked the same boxes coming off better form? Idk… fingers crossed!!!

Not an arsenal fan, but IMO the best postion for Havertz would be Odegaards position. It's difficult to imagine how Odegaard and Havertz playing at the same time would benefit each one to the maximum. As a team it seems to work but individually I don't think so.

It's such an interesting transfer for a number of reasons. Firstly, I'm not convinced he was what we needed and given Chelsea clearly wanted rid of him I think we overpaid. What's really interesting for me, though, is that this transfer is basically Arsenal saying we don't think Chelsea know what they're doing and they're such a mess that they can artificially make players look bad. His confidence does look shot and I'm really hopeful that he can recover his best form. Not just for Arsenal's sake but as a lesson to Chelsea that you can't buy players, play them out of position in a toxic environment of managerial changes and players being traded like shares on the stock market and expect any level of footballing success.

@@alex0O0O He also played some matches as #9 (rather: false #9) in the last matches of his last season in Leverkusen. He played well, he scored goals (including headed goals). But he played it because we didn't have another fitting #9 for our ball possession playing style of coach Peter Bosz. He didn't choose Alario because of his lacking technical skills and lacking passing skills. Volland who usually played the false #9 was injured. Havertz can play the false #9, because of his technical skills and passing skills. He can score goals, including headed goals. But it's a waste of his skills to use him on this position. However, the main problem of Havertz in Chelsea and now at Arsenal should be the psychological aspect. Maybe it's too much pressure. Like it was at the beginning of his last season in Leverkusen, when fans and club expected him to carry the team on his own, when he as the star of the team was the scapegoat of the fans after bad matches of the whole team. Later on, in the whole second half of the season, he played great.

@@Chelvam-so4qh I'd say that the lazy body language of Havertz is part of his great style, and on the other hand the reason why he's seen so critical by many football fans. He reminds me completely of Berbatov. Brillant first touch, genius ideas, scores the most difficult goals week after week. And then you see him in other scenes and you wonder how that guy could play professional football. Scoring the difficult goals, missing the easy ones. Acting lazy. Giving the impression of not moving on the field and still Havertz was the player with the highest distance covered in most of his matches in Leverkusen (Berbatov also had higher distance covered statistics than other strikers in Leverkusen, although he appeared as lazy as possible).

The lack of dynamism is the biggest point you made for me. Xhaka was never an incredible athlete, yes he was physically strong but not fast or explosive and yet last season he made the extra effort when opportunities arose to have those little bursts and that’s what drove the team forward and got him those goals. Havertz has shown in the past he’s capable of doing so to great effect but at the moment he’s not even looking for those opportunities, let alone taking them when they come. It’s not a lack of ability, it’s a lack of effort and mindset and that is inexcusable for a professional athlete imo. Until he sorts it out he does not deserve a place in this team.

Not trying to be biased here but he also dipped for Germany recently. Also the German NT has a history of players actually being better for them than the club, Miroslav Klose the prime example. Add to that Chelsea literally had a German manager who he won the UCL with. But later was not good enough for. So I don't buy that side of the argument. However, I do think he's a better player than what he showed last season. But will that player arise out of playing in central midfield? I have my doubts but we'll see. Lampard tried him there before( and even as a winger!) but it was a nah nah, both for him and us.

Havertz is a half space filler, he doesn’t need a lot of dynamism to get into a good space because most of the time he is already there! Brilliant spatial awareness both in front and behind, similar to Martin. His teammates need to trust him more, give him the ball at the earliest opportunity and run off him. Simple! Seriously the amount of times I’m like “give the ball to Kai” but they don’t. He is shaping up to turn and press into a goal scoring opportunity and They just don’t give him the ball. Look at the stat of how much ground he covers per game. It’s not a confidence issue but a trust one, and hopefully that will come with time, jeez we’re three games in!

One of the biggest issues in my opinion is that Arsenal have two undroppable wingers, and Odegaard is captain. So, to tweak the team to fit Havertz as the second striker, or to be one of two tens and still have width is near enough impossible.

It's almost as if the everyone forgot how a second striker plays. Surpising, even in the former land of the 442. That is his position. He was lucked out to be born out of his time. Most coaches don't play two strikers anymore (especially positional play coaches). Sames goes with Muller, who's basically a less esthetic, but much more efficient Haavertz.

I will add though in terms of dynamism. Arsenal has that problem just in the way they play . We keep cycling the ball left and right and don't put in too many cutting ball to players making runs. Our defacto method seems to be get the ball to martinelli and saka on each side and keep the pressure going and eventually the team will break down. Martinelli won like 9 corners against united last week. I see so many time the players not making passes through the lines were runners are going. We really need to get better at that. I thought jorginho and vieira do that the best and that is why we are trying to involve vieira more. Odegaard for all the praise he gets isn't like cesc playing balls between the lines. He has become exception at pressing, ball retention and scoring from midfield but Arsenal players need to be making more runs and the Arsenal players need to be playing more balls between the lines forward rather just moving the ball right and left to the wingers all the time.

When signing Havertz, the prediction was that he would play primarily as a number 8. In other words, a replacement for Xhaka, but with more attacking focus. Still waiting for that last bit. When signing Rice, the prediction was also that he would play primarily as a number 8. In other words, a replacement for Xhaka, but with better defensive and attacking strengths. Because Havertz lacks the defensive skills, he is more suited to playing as a second number 10. But that is Viera's ideal role too (and Trossard's). And right now, they are both better at it. Let's hope Havertz quickly learns how the Arsenal system works, and regains his 'wonderkid' form. If not, the money would have been better spent on a backup right winger.

I think he is suffering the same thing that happened to Griezmann in Barcelona. They send him lower on the pitch, and took a more defensive role. It’s not that Griezmann lost his creative talent overnight. But just like Havertz, you sacrifice freedom. Because you cannot leave your position unattended. Specially not with Rice who has more offensive qualities, rather than pure defending. (which is why, I think Edson Alvarez is a better fit at West Ham)

Even with that season included, hes only had 2 seasons of more than 10 goals and only 2 seasons of 5 assists or more. This is his 8th season. Things like his shot on target rates were actually the same or better when he played at Chelsea. And their own stat display shows he cant carry the ball, doesnt play defense, cant score, and only passes well. And even thats diminished because by playing him, youre taking out another player who could probably generate five assists themselves. So unless he has another season with an xEG difference of 5, youre getting 10 goals and 5 assists best case scenario for 75 million.

@@2639theboss clearly didn’t rate him at the price Chelsea wanted which I can understand. To suggest elite clubs would pay huge sums ‘hoping’ he reaches the same heights as that 1/2 seasons is very naive, which is what you’re doing. He clearly does something that clubs value outside of G/A, or at least shows enough to make them believe he’s worth investing in. Ultimately he flopped at Chelsea, we all know that, but you’re basing your whole opinion on that spell. He’s had 3 games in an Arsenal shirt, he’s still young enough to flourish. Needs to be given a chance.

Wow. From CFC fan perspective - we tried him deeper. A lot of times, I would actually argue, that 63% is wrong, because he might have been put there in lineup, but he was playing all around the field. In 3-4-3 he was often dropping deeper or to the side and his the striker role was taken by other player - be it Felix/Sterling last year or Puli/Werner the year before. Under Lampard he played mostly lower and it was disaster. Basically the answer why he ended as "a striker" with us is not just about failure with Lukaku/Auba, but as well because he was just bad everywhere else, so we had to put him up there.

So your coaches had no idea how to use him and threw him at every position? Why even buy him in the first place? That’s how you kill a players potential, constant changes, different tactics and coaches and different expectations for every season How is he supposed to be a CM, a winger, a CF and a ST and perform at every position? He never played any of these positions before, except maybe CF He’s a CAM and RM

I was expecting more than this from Tifo's analysis, so I'm a bit disappointed. Arsenal don't just see Kai as a LAM, he was the tip of the 3-4-3 diamond in the Forest game for example. I think Arteta is clearly intent on using him as an extra striker in the box. This fits his skillset and makes up for the lack of height in our attack as our strikers are on the shorter side. He could have scored at least one goal and one assist against Fulham. Iirc Arsenal had the most touches inside the opposition box last season. And that trend has continued into the current season. Imagine, last season we didn't have a big, tall attacker in the box. We scored a lot of low cut-back goals, but we couldn't put up crosses. I'm not saying Kai will be an automatic success at Arsenal, but I can understand what Arteta was attracted to in him.

@@philmoeHe definitely seems to have some confidence issues, doesn't he? He could do with being a little more assertive. But I don't think of Kai as a proper 9, and neither does Mikel. And since he's our player anyway, it seems pointless to compare him to other possible options.

I think the analysis is good, but did not consider the times that Havertz had been in good positions but the ball didn't arrive as Mikel had said. I spotted one instance where he was in acres of space in the left half-space but the ball wasn't played to him during the Fulham game. Arsenal immediately lost possession after that.

I support Kai and fully expect that he will prove the doubters wrong. The pressure is on and as a professional, it's his job to work through it but I don't like this attitude everyone has. An absolutely entitled fan base, they are going to ruin this player. We should be spending all our energy hyping this guy up, encouraging him and showing him support. I do think it's maybe a good idea that he plays off the bench until he feels comfortable and doesn't get rushed into games just because he cost so much. Chelsea absolutely ruined him and he'll need a few months to settle back into the way of things. That all being said I'm genuinely excited to see Arsenal play again this weekend. I'm all for the experiment.

Honestly, he showed glimpse of what he was always good at doing, he was always in open spaces collecting amazing passes. HOWEVER, his decision making with the ball has been horrid, he passes back when he has the space to run. and vice-versa. It might be a strategy issue from Arteta, possibly asking Havertz to do back passes and slow play instead of turn-and-run with the ball
@matthewblack986
@matthewblack986 Жыл бұрын
Cap that's not all he did (just staying up waiting for the ball to be carried up field), he was a roaming playmaker, he dropped deep to be the creative player to dictate the transition after the defenders win the ball back. he could beat a press into space then find a pass or carry the ball then find a pass, this then allowed him to assess the movement of the opposition and arrive late in space to finish off the chances. he has a great first touch, he can control the ball and keep it close to him, has a great vision and pass and great technique. he knows the type of finish to do in whatever space he's in and he has the technique to do it. He's a hybrid of CAM and DLP in terms of IQ but i don't know who to compare him to that is similar. Maybe Kroos/Fernandes without the long range class? either way he needs a manager that will understand this quality and use him in the correct system. If he is static he will be marked out the game.

Chelsea are masters at capitalizing on player weaknesses. They let their players' weaknesses stand out more than their strengths. It happened not only to Havertz, but also Lukaku, Werner, Ziyech. I have seen signs that that is being alleviated by Pochettino.

I don't think Havertz is bad, let's be fair. the guy is new to the job, it would take a while for anyone in any profession to learn and settle into the new job expectations. in past three matches he only made one bad pass that became a meme. you can see everything else is getting better. Arsenal lost 2 points because of Arteta's subs in the end game. you won't take two leaders out when the game is still alive.
