Well damn, you explained it perfectly! And I remember how obsessed I was with your comic dubs when I was ~10 (cuz I didn't have the games) so I treated them as the actual story till I could actually play them haha. I used to be a homophobe in the Jehovah's Witness cult, but the kingdom hearts comics helped me to realize I was bi and normalize the concept of gay people to me. Now as a 20 year old, I finally escaped the cult and my parents' house and now I live with my boyfriend and a roommate. It's currently a work in progress trying to completely separate myself from my parents because insurance and money. I guess I can say thank you for helping me to wake up all those years ago. Freedom is beautiful.

god, i just found this video. and honestly? i can relate. but i remember getting kingdom hearts two at a fairly young age. maybe like. nine to eleven? i didnt know how to delete save files, nor did i know KH had any actual plot to it (and, to be fair, i DID start on the second game instead of the first.) genuinely, i do highly regret giving away the copy i had because i didn’t know how to do the level. but i also remember. taking one look at sora, and comparing him to myself. i don’t know what about it specifically but. i remember a vague, fuzzy thought that - for years - i ended up shoving into the back of my mind until i was thirteen. “oh. i want to be like that.” i dont think i knew what that meant specifically at the time. but i know now. i wanted to be considered a guy. i ended up looking at every other male, human character in kh. i wanted to be called a boy and - maybe even - be called handsome. i probably would’ve gotten into kingdom hearts a lot earlier had i actually had the focus to play it and had internet access. i’m just glad that now i can say that it’s a huge comfort for me, and something i turn to while im having a rough time. it just sucks that the fandom can be. toxic.

Because as someone who experienced this exact thing (funny enough, I was also super into your old KH videos too during those years. Sidenote: it's incredible to see how far you've come since then!), this is fantastic. Especially that last part basically being summed up as 'It's good that it helped us figure out our sexualities, but the method that led us there was toxic and we need to leave it behind.'

Kingdom Hearts are my favorite franchise, and I'm straight. Something what I like about these games is that characters aren't hiding what they feel like, whatever if it is fear, love, friendship, they just show it like directly and honestly, like how they show us back then when I was a kid, that having fear was normal and you can confront it and keep going, growing up as person... Every character have something to show you, how they deal with their own stuff and moving forward for a better version of themselves, I mean I really like how Roku grow up and become that mature and trust friend, or how Aqua was the one who dealed with a lot of stuff for the sake of her friends and a the end never lost her will... Damn these games are so good, interesting video, greetings!

I've heard horror stories of adult cosplayers having 13 year olds coming up to them and talk about yaoi and calling them daddy. I've had a literal 10 year old come up to me and asking about what ships I like then going into detail about fanfiction they read. Kids will stay kids I guess. I'm so grateful that they don't have access to the yaoi paddle tho

I feel like this is a lot less of "How KH turned people gay" and more "how cheesy/bad anime yaoi tuned everyone gay." I was never in that group of people, but i've seen plenty of poorly written smut fucking everywhere back in the day. Not complaining, self expression is important. I only got into KH a few weeks ago and instead owe my realization of not being straight mainly to Hetalia, but we had the exact same problems and I'm sad I can't look back at something that used to mean everything to me without shuddering in horror because of how toxic the fancommunity and convention culture was at the time, and how tightly interwoven the two are in my memories.

I grew up with kingdom hearts pretty much my whole life, I was born the year the first game came out, and my family, mainly my older brother and my mom, played it a lot, and then I played it too, and sucked, I played some of kingdom hearts 1, got stuck, started kh2 before finishing kh1 or even touching chain of memories. And over the years I've gotten better at playing the game, gotten better at understanding, and filled in the parts of the story i had missed. And man I just loved this series. I was never really involved with "the community", that was before my time I guess, so all this stuff about yaoi and cosplaying you just talked about was completely new to me, I don't understand those paddle things at all. So if kingdom hearts was involved in me figuring out I'm a trans lesbian, it wasn't like this. But, especially recently, since i figured out I'm trans, it's just been there for me. Lately I've been not really liking playing as boys in video games, but sora's different. He's... he's our boy. Our sweetie. Yeah i dunno how to end this. Sora for smash

BBS all but confirmed it. lea was around 16-year-old ventus' height 10 years before KH1. cid said maleficent conquered their home 8 years before KH1, so terranort likely split into ansem and xemnas and founded org13 2 years after BBS. that'd mean lea and isa became nobodies at around age 14-18. then between maleficent's 8-year reign and sora's 1-year slumber, they aged up to japan's standard of "adult": age 20, then stopped aging. and now lea and isa are 20-year-old recompleted humans when they should be at least age 25 by now.

5:10 I was about to be angry for "the orgy members had no personality", but I guess in 2005, right after KH2... they really didn't! Okay, a year before in 2004, Chain of Memories came out and had half of the guys, but that was the GBA version, so not much chance for character development for them. 358 and its manga (which is...amazing, please read it) came out a few years later, so until then, the fans really had nothing to work with.
