Ares only waged war on certain enemies and civilizations, but Kratos gave birth to true war on all of Greece by burning Olympus to the ground. Here are the main examples. 1. He flooded the entire land just by gouging Poseidon’s eyes out. 2. Every single one of those crazy, bad and downright ugly souls were being held within Hades’ body and as soon as Kratos absorbed his soul, they all got out. 3. He turned Helios into a headless corpse and the sun was no more. 4. He snapped Hera’s neck, automatically killing all plant life in Greece. 5. Last but certainly not least, he beat the living hell out Zeus with his bare hands and as soon as he was dead, all of Greece thwarted into complete, utter and permanent chaos.

He is strong because of his ambition to deal with Zeus, the reason why he needed the power of hope is to face against Zeus since he is the most powerful god kratos has faced. That’s why Kratos manage to beat Zeus at the end of the game.

@@tmac731 The power of hope was in Kratos when he opened it to defeat Ares, after that it was sealed inside due to his guilt about the death of his wife and daughter, and losing hope. At the end of the game, he use hope to end Zeus for good. He did beat Zeus without it but Zeus was still alive in his astral form. Kratos was always strong enough to kill gods due to his strength, rage, and ambition. Kratos used hope against Ares and Zeus, two beings he knows, he not confident defeating during that time. Even though power of hope is gone, kratos still has hope to this day. It’s may not be the same hope but hope is still there inside of him that was sealed away before acquiring the box.

Keep in mind, not only did Kratos kill gods and titans, 99% of those gods and titans were his relatives. Zeus: Dear old daddy Poseidon: Uncle Hades: Uncle Ares: Half-brother Hermes: Half-brother Athena: Half-sister Hercules: Half-brother Cronos: Grandfather Gaia: Great-Grandmother Other gods AND mortals that he killed weren't relatives.
