For all the people saying "why not just buy a new pair?", one of the benefits of having them resoled is that the leather is already broken in. It's soft and supple from use, and has formed to your body. The older leather tops are much more comfortable than brand new stiff tops. This is a real plus, especially if you wear these boots a lot!
@KiGeprak

And basically we don't make new waste and utilize the leather to its full capability! (The leather are still in great conditions even after the rubber wore out)

I have an old pair of LL Bean boots - they're comfortable as can be. Worn them for 20 years and they're still great. When the sole gets bad enough I'll just have them resole it - we live in a "throw away" culture, when it's cheaper and better for the environment to simply restore or recycle the part that needs replacing.

What a perfect example of a Maine accent. People seem to think it doesn't exist or conflate it with a Boston accent, but it's definitely distinct.

recycling/restoring is always better for the environment than throwing something away and repurchasing the same product. even if only some of the original can be reused that's still less waste going into landfills.

The people who are saying "the rubber and sole create just as much pollution so saving the environment is not a valid reason" have clearly never seen or SMELLED a leather tannery. Tanning uses some extremely nasty chemicals including aldhyedes and chromium based compounds. In many places the dirty water generated is just dumped into nearby bodies of water resulting in substantial pollution since cleaning up tanning waste can be quite expensive.

Does LL Bean still honor the policy that they will replace/repair any item you buy from them if they are worn out "before their time"?
@madsthefreed

This is an old comment but no, not exactly. They changed their lifetime return policy in 2018, but anything you bought before that is still honored. It’s a 1 year return policy for new stuff and they consider stuff with manufacturing flaws too, so it’s still pretty generous.

If most of the shoe is getting replaced anyways why wouldn't you just buy a new shoe? Refurbishing it can't possibly be that much cheaper you might as well just get a new shoe

Edit: I looked up the cost, new boots cost $149 while the restoration costs $39 plus tax. It looks like they keep the leather and just replace the sole. Sustainability isn’t always about being cheaper, but about using things for as long as you can. But in this case it seems that both can be possible which is great!

I wore a pair of those boots for close to 8 years doing heavy construction in the winter. Once you own a pair of boots for so long there is a certain attachment to them. My soles were much more worn than the ones in this vid plus some of the stitching was torn. I received them back from LL Bean repaired and I was more than pleased. I still have those boots today. They must be 20 years old now. I would not hesitate to send them back to LL Bean. Like the old saying goes “ you get what you pay for”

Do the boots have a lifetime warranty or is this a service L.L. Bean offers?
@senselessbabble1996
@senselessbabble1996 2 жыл бұрын
L.L.Bean does not have, nor have they ever had a "Lifetime Warranty". In the past, it was a ""100% Satisfaction Guarantee", for as long as you think the item should last. BUT, over the years so many people took advantage of this great guarantee, that they had to put an end to it. Now the guarantee is only for a year.
@I_WANT_MY_SLAW

@@senselessbabble1996 so they blamed the customer for their guarantee? Imagine being mad at the customer for doing what you told them to do.
@senselessbabble1996
@senselessbabble1996 2 жыл бұрын
@@I_WANT_MY_SLAW Not quite. Too many people took advantage of the goodwill behind the guarantee and abused it. Here's an example... You get a coat, and it doesn't live up to your expectations, thus you are unsatisfied, you can return it. That's all good. But, if you get a coat, and just decide you want a new one a year later because you've changed your mind, and then claim you're unsatisfied just so you can get a new one, that was the sort of abuse I'm talking about. Or, people who buy a coat, use it for 10, 15, 20 years, and THEN say they are unsatisfied, that was another bit of abuse they faced. To much of people doing stuff like this is what lead to the change.

I looked at newer bean boots and I learned they had a heel protector that stops heel rub from ripping through the stitches well mine did not have it and it happened again but then they stopped fixing the boots so I tried fixing it myself but I don’t have the tools to do it so my bean boots sit unused 😡

They are for the wet, cold, nasty New England winters. The bottoms or outsole are sealed rubber and totally waterproof. I've stood in snow for hours and worked outside in slush and snow and your feet stay totally dry. Mine are insulated as well so they are fairly warm. Great for working outside in any environment where you don't want wet feet, and they clean up quickly. Although they are often worn outside of their intended purpose nowadays, they are absolutely built the way they are for a reason. They aren't meant to be pretty fashion boots
