People don’t realise how important oil service maintenance is ,,,

I had the 2nd gen Mazda 6 with the 2.2D MZR-CD engine. It had the X mark on its dipstick too, like a BMW 5-series, and I used that to keep an eye on oil dilution. The short trips around the time of covid (with the lockdowns and all the fun of not being able to go more than 5km from your house, etc.) was when I noticed that oil level increase more quickly, and that was the only time I HAD to do a very early oil change (after only 6000km or so). However, the timing chain was the thing that really used to suffer on that generation of Mazda diesels, and the chain on my was getting very worn from about 240,000km onwards. There was a diagnostic test you could run to get the angle of the chain to the camshaft (or something like that), and it had to be less than 10.45°. Anything over that, and it was time to replace the timing chain. I kept it at under 10.2° with regular oil changes and insisting the right oil was used, but eventually that chain was done, and the deterioration was quite rapid at the end and hard to prevent, even when you knew about it. I think Mazdas service intervals were too long (20,000km), and I bought the car when it was 4 years old, so a lot of the damage was already done by then. Still, I got 7 years of moderate yearly mileage (apart from in 2020, obviously) before that chain was toast. It was a pretty nice car otherwise, although the suspension components were a bit weak and lots of things needed to be replaced. As for the electronics, only the Bluetooth died. Everything else worked perfectly.

People do not understand city driving, small trips, towing = heavy use and should use the corresponding interval. Rule : Diesel 10000km, petrol 5000km or 6 months whatever comes first. Doing lot's of long trips, interval can be slightly higher.

Small turbos can rev at more than 100k rpm easily. Good oil quality and a steady feed of oil is absolutely crucial to ensure that turbo bearings don't wear out prematurely. Also, warming up the engine and letting the turbo cool off before shutting the engine down are two very important aspects of operating a turbocharged engine.

I got told by a mechanic here in Australia that that mazda diesel engine is basically rubbish, they fail on the head gasket have waste gate issues at low kilometres and the turbo is problematic on them to,. I was told by mazda Australia to use only 10/40W Castrol Magnatec and not the specified 5W 30W that mazda specify, apparently the cam shafts wear prematurely on them on 5W/30 viscosity oils

You mean Mazda Australia deceived you, to intentionally destroy your engine?🤔

You can find the complete official Mazda workshop manual for the Mazda 3 BM as a pdf download. I found it that way and it has all the specs in it.

Listening to the beginning of the video I can't quite understand the problem, apparently it just seems to be the turbo that is charging or am I wrong?

Can the factory oil pressure be increased by remapping and if so is it safe for the engine?

The 2.5 Skyactiv is a reliable engine. But later versions can be annoying with the cylinder deactivation.
@jonihaimakka

In the beginning you said that the belt runs waterpump and you cannot drive if it snaps. That's not quite correct. Skyactiv engine has two belts. There's a separate more narrow belt only for the water pump. The main belt runs the alternator and air conditioning compressor. Without the main belt you can drive for a short period.
@MrNiceGuy94
@MrNiceGuy94 5 күн бұрын
Well, I was wrong as you can drive it till it stops due to overheating or lack of electric power. This is a skyactiv 2.2 diesel and it has only 1 drive belt which runs the water pump as well. I would bet my life on that, as at this point I must have done like 300 of them.
