The gravel noise turning into thunder/battlefield was an amazing choice. That's how you end a season finale.

Definitely! I never read it as such (I felt the low pass filter closing in represented that Lalo's focus was zooming away from all the showmanship into a singular thing, symbolised by the overtones going away as the resonance amplifies just the fundamental), but this is a really cool interpretation too. No wrong answers here I'm sure :)

Look up Better Call Saul Polite Fight. It's a series of videos he did for AVClub during season 2. I don't think he's done videos for seasons 1 and 3 though.

dog-eared - It’s funny because right around the 5-minute mark in the Amarillo video, you can see on John’s face that “Yeah this Gus sh*t ain’t gonna work.” It was doomed almost as it began. We’re lucky they made it through that season. 🤣

There's an interesting juxtaposition between Ignacio unwillingly going to Lalo's home turf and Mike being taken care of in Gus's pueblo in the episode "Dedicado a Max". Both are recruiting a second-in-command. Lalo's fire pit vs Gus's water monument. An elder lady who cooks. Maybe even more

_Man,_ I just about had a heart attack when Nacho was sneaking out into the garden with a view to unlocking the gate . . . only to be confronted with an apparently relaxing Lalo guarding the thing! _That_ was tension!
@WlatPziupp
@WlatPziupp 2 жыл бұрын
The most beautiful kind of tension. The kind where it's relaxed on the surface, but we know and feel the violent and overwhelming undercurrent will inevitably upend everything. Even better than that: We know what's supposed to happen, we know how important and impossible the appearance of calm is for one of the two, we know it's likely the illusion will fall at any moment, and we know how dangerous that would be. It's suspension, dread, tension, and demand for absolute calm at the same time. If Lalo could see me watching them during that scene he'd know something was up immediately, it does such an amazing job of forcing emotion on the viewer

The stuff with Ciro is the absolute darkest Lalo-related moment in the show. Yes- even darker than him not caring about the family of the random guy he killed. You get a sense from the way he speaks to the kid when he thinks that he started the fire in the kitchen that he cares about him- the way he is critical to him feels very much like "tough love" to me. He has a mentor or even father figure type relationship with him. Yet, without hesitation or even a second thought, he uses him as a meat shield. All relationships are disposable.

In the car scenes I see Lalo as wanting to do things himself instead of resorting to a mechanic. He eventually figures out the issues. He doesn’t send men to do things, instead he goes and does the leg work himself. He’s a man that likes to see things and hear things for himself, show me-tell me.

The wrapped brick of cash from Lalo to Don Eladio. The Box is yellow and the ribbon is red. That’s Los Pollos Hermano’s colors. 10:38 Also, Don Eladio foreshadowed Lalo’s escape in this episode. He said that he thought Lalo was going to break himself out of the prison with a machine gun (he even did the sound). But that’s what Lalo actually did in the season finale, to survive the assassination.
@ekortsec
@ekortsec 4 жыл бұрын
When Lalo starts walking back towards the estate, the lighting makes it look as if the entire place is on fire, and so the Magic Man is walking right into the flames. Now that's showmanship!

Your analysis of this show mirrors how I feel about it. You can talk about each scene for half an hour because there's just so much going on. Great pick up on Louie 13th. And I like what you say regarding the importance of pairs as complimentary forces and a mysterious trinity force beyond them, as players vie for power. So much of the drama is fueled by the dramatic anchor-points of A and B character pairings. In both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul they are always of the type - Unstoppable force meets immovable object. Not always initially but certainly by their denouement, think Jimmy and Chuck. Over and again, the dynamic between two characters (And often as internal conflict in one character) we get A persona + B persona creates a C super-persona. Prepare for coming entropy in the explosive resolutions between: Mike and Lalo, Saul and Kim, Nacho and his father, Jimmy and Saul, Swatting Kim and Robin Hood Kim, Gus and Lalo, Salamanca and Fring, law and disorder, etc etc..sensational!
