Hey David, at Barnyard Bees. 68f is a Summers Day here in Scotland ! He, he, he. 😁 Today it was 12C (53f) and the Bees are still flying loads. We are nearly at the end of the Bee Season, but they are bringing in lots Ivy Pollen, big time. (Bit stinky, but they love it. And as its 'theirs', they are welcome to it !) Good stuff to get them through our Winters. Still feeding Syrup, currently 1:1, then a couple of weeks of 2:1 then it's Api-fondant, and or White Sugar in Rapid Round Feeders. (Aka good Stores.) Did lots of Splits this year, so hopefully good to go Honey Production wise next year ! Happy Beekeeping 2021, my 1st Year.... Thanks for all the Videos, to learn from. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

We haven't seen any honey bees here in 3 years or more, and suddenly some showed up at our hummingbird feeders now that the birds have moved on. Just for fun we put out trays of nectar to use up the last of it. What started as about 50 bees is now several hundred feeding voraciously. We ran out of nectar and started putting out sugar water. There looks to be two hives now, from their coloration. Do you think they are just being opportunistic, or could they seriously be that hungry at this time of year? We're in south central KY.

1st year beekeeper....I have been feeding 2:1 for the last month or so. I usually fill the top hive feeders on the weekends and I swear the suck it down in 2-3 days. 50 lbs. of sugar for 4 hives. Should I be refilling their feeders every 3-4 days? Or is it OK to let the feeders run dry and only feed on the weekends when I get a chance?

What low temperature would you say quit feeding sugar water and go to straight sugar it's been low 40 and getting colder of nighttime and I was thinking that the bee's wouldn't have time to dry it before it froze and could make my bee's sick I've had straight sugar for about 3 days now and with a pollen pattie in too

I have seven hives and I use the round white circle inner hive feeders you have showed in other videos. The ones where you can add syrup or dry sugar - but even with the clear plastic cap over the hole - when the syrup is gone almost all of them still allow the bees to get out! Very frustrating when I go to refill and there are bees crawling all over the cap and stuck in the bits of syrup. Tried putting little collars of sock over the tube but they still get out. Any thoughts or suggestions?! I thought the feeders were designed so bees couldn’t get under. But inevitably they do

You know, I've not fed in a few weeks because I thought it made them lay a lot of brood. But I guess ill fire up the feeder.
@zombiecon79533 жыл бұрын
You will want to feed a lot now so you can trick the queen into laying more winter bees. You gotta have them for your hives to survive winter. In the winter they become heater bees inside the hive.

What about syrup? I have a big bucket of corn syrup? Is this ok? Or no?
@ME_MeAndMyBees3 жыл бұрын
NO ! 😖 Tip : Any Syrup that is made with High Heat is full of HMF (its Toxic to Bees !) READ UP on... "Hydroxymethylfurfural". Corn Syrup is full of this stuff !!!! Even as a Human, I wouldn't eat it !!! YUCK 🤮 As David suggested, make your Syrup up with Tepid Water, and stir lots. Don't add any Acid, that creates HMF too ! Check out Fred Dunns Beek Channel, he adds a 'dinky dot of Bleach' to his Syrup... Apparently Stateside, Bees will go to Neighbours Swimming Pools to 'Drink'. Happy Beekeeping 2021. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Here in Scotland we Feed 1:1, then 2:1, then Fondant, and finally Dry White Sugar within a Rapid Round Feeder, with inner Cover Cup Removed. The Bees need 'moisture' off the Hive Walls, to lick, and this is in turn used by them to make 'their own Syrup', once they break Cluster, at the early stages of Next Spring ! ... Way before any Beek see any 'activity', which is often to late (!) Bees can Starve to Death way sooner than you think ! 👀

I will use the 50 gallon bucket of High Fructose Corn syrup for something else. Not sure what. I thought that it was used in the past with out any trouble. I will read up on this and find out more. Wish I could say that was very informative, but it wasn’t at all! Ok so you stop feeding on dec 1st. And your reason for that? It’s just a date you go by. When should I stop feeding? Your answer: it just depends on what part of the country you are in. Really? Is that the best you can do man? I’ve always liked your videos, but this one is no good. Put some more thought into your videos. What does it depend on? Is there a certain temperature that I should stop? Try to think of all the questions people will have and give answers for them. Don’t just go out with the camera and shoot from the hip.
