This is great information. All ball companies need to provide similar details

I’m sure there’s plenty of two handers/no thumbers that’d like to see this done without the thumb hole and see how much different drillings then change the motion/numbers
@byronfranek27063 жыл бұрын
The obvious extrapolation is that the size and shape of the core, as well as the span, pitches, hole size and depth, and PAP are all factors in the final core numbers. I'm having a hard time understanding how this can possibly be predicted with the vector or dual angle layout systems, which do not account for many of these variables. I have a very good understanding of how the dual angle system works, including angle sums, angle ratios, Athery's chart, etc..., but my intuition is often at odds with the layouts I calculate using the system. Thanks for the illuminating videos!

interesting. these layouts are applicable to no-thumb or two-handed styles?

I'd love to see another comparison with the effect of the "deep" thumbhole on all these layouts. Mo said that the deep thumbhole "blows up the diff."

I like this video a lot. It can almost be used as reference material for ball drillers when trying to orient cores to get a specific ball motion. What would also be great is to have a demo video of a few balls drilled with the same pin-pap distance and different psa-pap distances so that we can see the actual effect of moving psa around.
@denmanfite3156 Жыл бұрын
One problem with this kinda video is that the differences are so slight you hardly notice. Biggest impact is probably in miss room and that's hard to quantify

Is this based off a certain sized span? Does span size change these #s? Would a 3 5/7 inch span versus 5 inch span have the same #s?

I think this video would make a lot more sense with ball demonstration with the different layouts

Could you do a video on no thumb layouts?

Please do this for a two handed no-thumb bowler too.

I think it might help to do a video on the pin distance in relation to axis tilt. I know Mo did a couple of videos on it, and had suggestions for pin to PAP for axis tilts, but what are the effects if those guidelines aren’t followed? For example, I have low tilt and once had a 6 inch pin drilled on a low diff ball. And I hated the resulting motion because the ball would never really get going. I see a lot of league bowlers who have sort of a spinner release/ high tilt, but they leave a lot of flat tens because the ball never really gets into a roll. And I’m assuming that’s because of the pin to pap distance they have on their balls
@Jesusfanatic07113 жыл бұрын
6 inch pin on a low diff ball would be for really dry lanes and I’m talking bone dry lol. As a person that has low tilt myself I would never let my PSO do a 6 inch pin unless the ball ended up with a big diff to make it back up the hill. It’s pretty much like a short pin in the opposite direction. Being that 3 3/8 is the middle number.
@joshhammonds71453 жыл бұрын
@@Jesusfanatic0711 yeah it was a bad call on my part for sure lol. Should have gone with a 5 inch at the most.
@Jesusfanatic07113 жыл бұрын
@@joshhammonds7145 I mean don’t get me wrong I had a 6 inch pin on a hyroad pearl and it still worked out. But that’s a symmetric ball. This video is for that int diff which is everything to do with assyms. As far as I know having seen all Mos vids is that low tilt basically need something to provide length not to burn up so soon. Higher tilt obviously need to get into a roll sooner so I would suspect a bigger diff would be gold for them to cover more boards. This bowling thing can be so complicated 🤪. You think you know something then apply it to the ball and your like I hate it 😅
@joshhammonds71453 жыл бұрын
@@Jesusfanatic0711 yeah mine was on an iq emerald, which is polished lol. So yeah, that thing wasn’t going anywhere on a normal lane. It can be very complicated. I put the max flip on a max results and when trying it out last week I was like ‘ wtf is going on’ cuz I wasn’t getting much out of it like I thought it would. But, I also wasn’t throwing it well either. Once I started throwing it normally it had much better shape. And with it being max flip, the int diff is blown way up lol
@Jesusfanatic07113 жыл бұрын
@@joshhammonds7145 i found that once I got a few games on the max results it actually started to work out better. It’s a monster deeper in the lane. But my experience from throwing it off the press wasn’t great either. I got a layout with a 5 inch pin so it’s between most versatile and most flip

How will span length affect the numbers? Say bowler 1 has a span of 4" and bowler 2 has a span of 6", you will be drilling into different areas of the core. Will there be any change to the numbers?
@OskuPalermaa3003 жыл бұрын
Will do, also depends a bit on which kind of core

Dear Phil I am coming to you a year late so sorry about that is if possible tell me what lay out would be good for longer distance and sharp back end?
@jefferydaniels67173 жыл бұрын
I am seeing more and more videos where people are trying to demonstrate that the difference in layout / drilling means nothing to most bowlers. I know it does make a difference but sometimes it is hard to see on your ball review graphs.

I am looking to replace a 18yr old WD. I am looking at the Spy. I thought this might give me the Spare ball and drier lane strike ball. The issue is with a 5 inch PAP and medium axis, what might be a suggested drilling? I drilled the Results + 65x5x40. I am not comparing these balls only the drilling that worked on that Radical.
@davidchamberlain51463 жыл бұрын
If your looking for a combination spare and short oil ball have to given urethane a thought? I was considering the Spy with a short pin for the same uses as you. Several videos talk about using urethane for spare shooting. My PSO said urethane can fill both needs but suggested I stay with plastic because my spare shooting accuracy is still lacking.

I hear a lot that say pin down layouts are not good for speed dominant bowlers. If a pin down layout like the midlane layout is utilized to read the midlane sooner, this would seem to be benefit a speed dominant bowler because it would help the ball not skid as far and get into the hook and roll phase sooner.
@Jesusfanatic07113 жыл бұрын
Yeah it makes sense for someone speed dominant but with that layout you also wouldn’t get the same overall hook. For speed dominant players it’s better to get a ball that has teeth to it like a solid or hybrid or even kick that mass bias out in between your thumb and pap so your not sacrificing that overall hook. What are your stats tho I’m a 440 rev rate throwing around 17 mph. I have a pin down symmetric ball and I love it.
@supermantl343 жыл бұрын
@@Jesusfanatic0711 around 400 but at 18.5-19 mph, have to really try to stand up on approach to get speed down
@AverageLeagueHack3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is while the pin down layout me start sooner it lowers flare potential delaying when the positive delaying when the pap crosses the pin to spin and that's when the majority of reaction occurs. So while the hooking starts sooner the transition to roll takes longer.
