Very informative. I am speed dominant 19-20.5 mph off hand with axis tilt of 10 degrees with a pap of 5 1/4 over by 1 1/4 up. What layout would be good for me to get a nice backend motion without it going too long?
@BowlingScience Жыл бұрын
If you are rev dominant, 70/4/40. If you are more matched, 55/4/25

What would you do on an asymmetrical where you have a high track but your are rev dominate? Would you adjust the max flip layout from a 3.5 pin to PAP to more like 5 inches?
@BowlingScience2 жыл бұрын
Nooooo... the 5" will make it flatter. I would increase the angle sum while keeping the angle ratio the similar. Something like 100 x 3.75 x 30 for low tilt/ high track. I used to use 80 x 4 x 50 with medium tilt and super rev dominant when I was younger.

Could you do a episode discussing Val angles as well for high track players

Hey man thanks for your time and info. I'm a low speed, low rev maybe slightly rev dominant or even possibly matched. What would you suggest for SYM and ASYM? Thank you!

Do you know your axis tilt? That will help us get you the right layout.

I am left handed throwing a ball given to me by a right hander . Only adjustment I made to the ball was having the thumb redrilled. I'm assuming that would make the ball a short pin layout?

My PAP is 4 1/8 -> 3/4 up ^ how should I adjust my angles for the layouts?
@BurntOutBrother4 жыл бұрын
I think I’m about 15-20 degrees of tilt and 70 degrees rotation if you need those specs

Okay, I am some what late to the party here, but I am a 60 year old left hander with my tilt between 3 and 7 degrees. My current layout on almost everything I have is 60X5X40, clipping my thumb at the start of the delivery. I find that I have more success with the Symmetrical stuff than the Asym and the angles I have been using are 60X5X40 regardless of the ball type. From what I heard here is, maybe I should go with the 75X4X30, which is fine but I am concerned about the flare going over my thumb? I would think that a 75X5X30 would help keep it off my thumb and yes I am aware that the first number really isn't a factor with Symmetrical balls.

if your PAP has a vertical measurement (like 1" up/down) do you adjust the pin/pap distance or VAL angle, or keep the same?
@BowlingScience4 жыл бұрын
If tilt and rotation allow, I will increase VAL by 10 for PAPs that are more than 2 up, and decrease by 10 for PAPs that are under... But every bowler has a minimum usable VAL angle, so sometime you are limited.

How to measure? Distance from the closet rings? Distance to the middle of the flair rings? Distance to the furthest flair rings? Thanks

I am a high track player with low tilt. I am curious about pin down layouts for me.

Thanks Mikey, that helps.

I saw your comment at 2 am and wasnt gonna answer from bed, but now that i am up, Low tilt players typically need balls that maintain rotation further downlane. Pin down assyms will lose rotation and tilt quickly. Pin down assyms will be probably the least useful layouts for you unless you have 500+ rpms...

Any recommendation for zero tilt Full Rollers?
@joehoenig75963 жыл бұрын
Is there any general consensus as to how much surface a high tilt bowler should use, even on an angular assym layout, to even further slow the ball down? Should such a bowler use BOTH surface and strong assym layouts, to slow down the ball and give it time to hook and then roll, or is doing both of these things overkill? Thank you
@BowlingScience3 жыл бұрын
The right strong layout (low drill angle, big val) on assym for high tilt bowlers is good for getting the ball to lose tilt quickly and read the midlane. Angular assym layouts can get very over under for high tilt.bowlers, but surface helps diminish that.

I throw 17.5-18 miles an hour with a tilt of about 30 degrees. I usually surface with 1k but would you recommend 500?
@BowlingScience Жыл бұрын
I would have one ball at 500 for sure. For controlling the front of the lane when necessary. Not everything needs to be at the limit, but it’s good to have one ball in the bag ready to go with 500.

You say the drilling angle should be increased on asymmetric layouts for low tilt bowlers. How much? My PAP is 5 7/16 x 3/4. How many degrees would you increase the angle?

For you, .5"
