The bigger clubs like City, United and Chelsea underperforming was easily the biggest factor tho. There was never a better chance for Arsenal to win the league than in 2016. IIRC, they even got a double win against Leicester that season but choked the important games.
@kurtsudheim8252 жыл бұрын
Agreed, nobody seems to give that enough credit, yes the story is nice & leicester still performed, but to win the league with only 80 pts... That's usually enough to get 4/5th, & arsenal were on 70. Not really against the smaller teams, they still bullied then, it was against the other big teams like man u & chelsea. I remember them bearing city just before Xmas, thinking they would be the two, & the reverse fixture at the end of the season could be the title decoder

Leicester had some great talent on that team. Everyone knows Kante, mahrez, vardy, but this was the season Wes Morgan was insane, Kasper schmeical broke out, and they had solid players who would go on to bigger clubs like ben chilwell and Danny drinkwater. This doesn’t even mention the solid players they had like okazaki, fuchs, and robert Huth. It was a breakout season for the ages

@tomben61802 жыл бұрын
It was definitely a combination of all those things. They had 3 star players and then 8 solid players who could support them. They had very few injuries all season. All the traditional top clubs had stinkers, including my side (Manchester City) who got our lowest points for 10 years. And the Manager kept them all happy. It got to the point where we couldn’t win it and I started backing Leicester to win the league, it was a great story that probably won’t be repeated.

This video really makes me happy as a Leicester fan to see the growth we’ve hand since Vichai and all his family took over the club back then it’s amazing to see a relatively small championship side go from inches away from relegation to premier league title to 2 consecutive seasons of being moments from the UCL and bringing in brilliant talent who make such huge profits for the club and all are amazing footballers. R.I.P. He came from Thailand now he’s one of our own. As a football fan stuff like this happens a lot elsewhere such as Barnsley surviving relegation on the final day of the season to then getting to championship play offs or a team like Köln who were close to the relegation play off but then bounced back to get to Europe

I think it is. Numerous coaches and players have said that it is a lot harder to win a league than a tournament like Champion's League. While in international games its do or die every game, it is only around 6-8 games but with a league you have to be consistent for 38 games. People were saying well it's December they'll fall off eventually then it's February they'll fall off and so on.
