Living in my van for 1 year, the good, the bad and the ugly!
This channel is all about my personal journey as a Full Time Van Lifer with a dog called Rupert and complete beginner trying to build a KZbin Channel. In May 2023 my landlord gave me 60 days notice to leave my rented house. Long story short, I couldn't find a suitable property to rent. I only wanted a small flat but because I have a dog (Rupert) none of the landlords would accept me. So, with time running out I decided to move into my small Citroen Dispatch Van temporarily until I could find somewhere for me and Rupert to live . After 5 months in my tiny van I decided that I loved van life but needed a bigger van, so I got one! Follow me as I re-invent my life, my work, my relationships and my mental well being.
If you would like to support our channel and you want to be me a coffee or Rupert a bone then please use the link below, thank you

Good day to you Stephen, Mike from County Durham..............Pleased to see you as an older person making the move, I am so envious :) I do have a small van, a nissan nv200 done out in a simple manner and thoroughly enjoy the stealth camping just about anywhere. Your rent is eye watering and could be put to a lot better use.....................as you are doing. Best wishes Mike

Hello, fellow wrinkleys :). I'm 67 and in the process of finishing my conversion of my 2018 peugeot boxer L3 H2. My ex wife(we're still good friends) thinks I'm a little bit bonkers but nevertheless has encouraged me to do what my heart tells me to do. Wish I'd done it many years ago, but, life always seemed to get in the way. But now,my kids are all grown up with kids of their own, they tell me to go for it and take time to "find myself" so,that's what I'm going to do. I wish you all the very best Kev,and any others who on this road.

By the time that you have sorted everything out and are finally free to travel, you shouldn't be far off getting your state pension. That should cover the costs of running the van and a few hours working at something, will ensure that you have some put by for repairs and emergencies. No more house bills to pay is most of the battle won.

I am 60 and thinking of doing van life now to see the UK and Ireland. To retire I don't think I would have enough to continue renting and living a brick and mortar existence. I live alone. Your video is very inspiring and brings me hope.

I retired two years ago and now living on social security. I was traveling in my truck and pulling a trailer that I lived in for about a year but I didn't like towing so I rented an apartment sold the truck and trailer, and purchased a Ford Econoline Van that I am currently converting into an RV. I plan on hitting the road again in about 3 months full-time nomad, free camping, and seeing all the things I never had time for while raising my kids. It's go till I drop for me. Good luck to you and have fun.

1 month into "vanlife" I knew I was never going back, 5 years later and it could not have worked out better. I have all the comforts, few of the bills and none of the stress of our regular modern life of servitude to the dollar. Instead I have plenty of free time in its place to look on at the madness of our civilisation while it chokes on itself....

Brilliant video: A brutally honest review of your first year. It's very easy to fall into the trap of thinking all you have to do is sell up, pack up, move into your lovely converted van and off you go. That may be the reality for the few, but as in your case, there are many who experience a sudden, unplanned change in personal circumstances and before you know it you're living in a van. Thank you for your direct and honest content - it's still inspiring to watch.

I lived in a long wheel base Renault trafic for 5 1/2 years. Not a high top either, couldn't stand up. I found it to be sustainable as long as i had a decent place to park up on private land, because i work and need a postal address at least. There are up-sides and down-sides to full time van life and you /anyone really have to be up for it and prepared to accept the compromiseses and challenges that come with the life in the UK. These days I'm in a small touring caravan, which is better really. I can't see me any time soon being able to ever live in a bricks and mortar property. Mid 50s and this is what i have to show for life.

I have to be careful to plan well. I live in the United States and healthcare is difficult because the insurance companies make it difficult if you are not home-based. I have not travelled anywhere yet but have been living next to a lake with wild swans, geese, ducks and other wild birds.. I may travel when my next van is finished (at least habitable). I haven't got a KZbin channel cos I wouldn't know where to start for one thing. I don't fancy a van build series as there's enough of them already, maybe something just about life in general...

People are programmed robot slaves of the system thinking happyness starts with extern factors like status, money, material things that means nothing and its relativ and an illusion create by society. If your happyness depend on extern factors you will never be because extern factors are endless. Happyness starts inside you. The more people around you, the more expectations, talk about others, lying, frustrations, negativity, jealousy, double standards, violent, hate, own benefits, judge, comparing etc..... reflection of their broken souls. Alone or in solitude you have more strength, peace, power, happyness, freedom and time. And no, not feeling superior or better then others but more be carefully and awake. Be the light in your own life.

Good day to you 👋 it was interesting hearing about your progression over the last year . . . and mostly for the better. I hope you can make a big effort to get everything out of that second unit, making some money in the process, to build up funds, and perhaps only work from the other one, since you still need some kind of income from the sound of it - especially with those recent repairs. If the van is liveable, then that should come second - trying to deal with two things at once will just be distracting from your real goal of having/making enough dosh to enjoy your new vanlife. As someone else has commented here, the State Pension beckons, which is just wonderful when they pay you - after all you paid your stamp (I hope‼️) over the years so you rightly deserve it. Two suggestions : One: make a point of getting a heater by around Oct/Nov, so you will be ready when Winter arrives, and Two: take some time off for a brief holiday to re-charge your batteries now the weather is warmer (we hope 😮) . . . Nothing like a change, it's as good as a rest - come back refreshed 👍👍💯💯

I'll move into mine mostly incomplete, not least because I want to experience in practice the best place to position cooker/bed/etc I only watch youtube, as computers are pretty boring,so I'll be glad to subscribe and watch how stuff turns out for you. You make a nice change from the people that stuff some van full of MDF and loads of cheap gadgets imported from China.....they know they can always run back to Mum and Dad's when it gets a bit chilly....

If you are on a reduced state pension you should apply for pension credit - it will give you extra money to help with your living costs.

Yep,thanks for taking the time.Up till recently I had a carer that lived in and because they weren't of pensionable age, they were considered a partner.....I'm tired of fighting the system,I can manage on what Iv'e got.Things have been worse. Take care.

Hi, I wish you all the best. Like you, I think it's best to live in a van with the bare basics at first and then build it how you want it and how it fits in with your own life. Thanks, Kev

Just found your channel. Great stuff. Will be watching your content with interest. I’m on that hamster wheel, paying rent, bills, going to work etc. fed up with paying a ton of money to live in a house I don’t own or am rarely in. Will be living the van life in a few years hopefully.

All best wishes to you. It’s a lifestyle and both kinder and gentler than ‘ the rat race’. It gives an individual time to think, become more at one with the environment, and time to evaluate and live consciously. Enjoy! 😊

Hi Kev, I’m back in the U.K. for a couple of months, after leaving 14 years ago I made the right choice. I’m at the moment talking to van lifers in Redcar North east coast. I take my hat off to you Sir. The U.K. is done. I watched the whole video, a new subscriber.

That's interesting Kev. I would say that there are a large percentage of people who do not enjoy van life, and are only in that situation out of necessity. So well done. There is one thing that needs addressing eventually, though. What are you going to do when your 'body' can't do it anymore?

I heard him say in another video that he doesn't want to live anywhere when he gets to the point where it's difficult for him to live as he's living. I'm paraphrasing ,so those weren't his exact words, but it was something very close to what I recall. I do remember when I heard him say it, it really did get my attention because I can relate to his feelings.
