Great video. One thing I mention to people here is that provider networks are very robust in the Twin Cities. Outside the Twin Cities (where about 40% of Minnesotans live) you have to do more diligent research with provider network coverage. Some parts of the state are struggling to get young doctors to move into their areas. Hope you enjoyed your trip. :)

Yes, the Lakers belong to Minnesota NOT LA!! Thank you so much for explaining why MN rates for Supplemental Plans are so expensive. I had to navigate the Medicare quagmire here in MN with my mom during an unusual open enrollment when her Advantage plans were shut down. What heartburn that process was, sort of like watching MN teams like the Gophers, Twins, and the Vikings continually trying to win the championships and falling just short of champs. (It’s looking up for the Vikes this year, but too early to really tell). But you were spot on, the costs for traditional Medicare vs. Advantage were significantly less, but she was in her mid-to-late 80’s. We could not have navigated that without an agent to assist, so your advice is spot on. In MN, we have a resource called the Senior Linkage Line and you can call and they will refer you to a qualified, trained agent to help you with the process. Thanks again for your great advice…
@oleradiodudea.m.4735Ай бұрын
Next time seek assistance from your local senior center. Many seniors in Minnesota understand the systems and the Medicare Advantage plans are wildly popular among seniors. Agents sometimes don't have the perspective of someone who is actually a senior. I have learned to put much more stock in what personal advice is from peers. Twins Lakes
@susankrautbauer1987Ай бұрын
@ Senior Centers are a great place to uncover resources, but I respectfully disagree with relying on fellow seniors as your primary source of information. Every year things change over on plans, benefits and formularies change, etc. It’s complex to navigate. As for Advantage Plans they have a high % enrollment here in MN, but heads up…Medicare Advantage plans are being dropped by healthcare systems all across the country due to slow pay, high denial of care rates, and closing subscriber pools that are pushing costs up. E.g. the M Fairview system will no longer be accepting Aetna Medicare in 2025. This was brought to my attention by an agent, so combine intel from fellow seniors WITH a licensed agent that specializes in Medicare.
@oleradiodudea.m.4735Ай бұрын
@@susankrautbauer1987 Thank you for your "WHY AGENTS ARE BEST MANIFESTO". I disagree because Minnesota provides fair and unbiased help at Minnesota's Senior LinkAge Line, They provide help compare plans so you can choose the one that best fits your needs. Their people are trained. They are not licensed to sell so they have no financial bias. Regarding scare tactics like Aetna's situation, that type of thing has been happening since the Medicare program began. Getting an insurance license really only assures the license holder is not a felon. Personal opinions of peers and trained people at Senior Linkage are best. Minnesota is unique about consumer protection. Senior Linkage is a prime example.

Go Vikings! (And Twins, Wild and Woofies). Currently navigating this pre-65, MN, Medicare quagmire. I’ve been studying the system for about a year now. One of my favorite movie quotes is from ‘Shooter’ and applies perfectly here: The moment you think you’ve got it figured, you’re wrong. Fantastic movie scene by the way. Highly recommended. Wife is pre-65 and has been on Part A for 15 years. Here is another gotcha that you didn’t cover: I figured we would go COBRA for the remainder of the year as OOPM had already been met. Found out the hard way that COBRA is 2nd to pay for Medicare. This meant we are responsible for the 80% Part B would have covered while paying exorbitant COBRA premiums that only covered the other 20%. Please do a video about this if you haven’t already. On the bright side, I am so happy to live in MN (born and raised) because of the pre-65 rules and no excess charges. She now has Part B effective Oct 24 (another story entirely). Signed up for D. We’re still trying to get a supplement plan (N equivalent) and making a little progress on that front. Thanks for the video on Medicare in Minnesota. p.s. Everyone is making a big deal about the changes to Part D next year. I agree it is a big deal but there are potential gotchas here too. Of course the $2000 cap doesn’t include premiums. Also, if your drug isn’t on the formulary you chose then you may be responsible for the retail cost and it won’t count toward the cap. Please fact check me but this is what I’ve discovered so far. Loved your video!

Initial enrolment here in Minnesota, I'm thinking about the HD-plan F. We've always had a high deductible, employer insurance, with higher premiums compared to the Medigap premium. I maxed out my HSA every year, so the deductible money is there if needed, any thoughts! Great content as always, hope you and your family got enjoy a lake or two during your visit. Your light shines bright, Merry Christmas!

You took your kids to sports stadiums, but did they fight over whether you FIRST visited the "World's Largest Ball of Twine by one man" in Darwin MN or the Spam Museum in Austin??? They have a nice lake outside of Darwin, so it's a double win there... I have an appointment to talk to an agent with your local partner firm here tomorrow. It sounds like it'll be a bit more involved than I originally thought.
@Theretirementnerds2 ай бұрын
Haha... we had to calm many fights over the ball of twine or spam... Mostly what's needed to give solid recommendations is medications you're on, providers you visit, or want to visit, and your general feelings about how you want to experience healthcare once on Medicare. Better to get the decision right the first time than wrong and need to change.

Land O Lakes! Like da buttah! 😂I thought you had a MN video in this series a couple of weeks back? Their plan seems expensive and confusing to me. MN & WI are two of the states (generally any around the Great Lakes) that are great to be from a climate resiliancy perspective in a few years. Generally I like cooler temps, but I dunno about deep freezes for many months. Sigh. I just turned 61 yrs old yesterday (Oct 7) so CMS has 4 yrs to sort all this out!!! 🤣
