At 70 my wife and I eliminated processed foods, made our exercise routine regular and held each other accountable. We both lost weight, feel better and general health improved. Now at 77 we feel better than we did at 50.

I found your channel about a month ago. I agree with pretty much everything I have listened to so far and find you guys to be a delightful couple. Growing older (I'm 72 now) wasn't even a challenge until I hit 70. Somehow, I over-stretched some nerves in my back creating a radiculopathy. This set off peripheral neuropathy and the whole mess that it can bring. So, the point is stay active but use caution while exercising and doing home projects. Neurologist can find nothing operable so life can turn on a dime. I'm an old veteran so this is just another battle to win down the road. Happy New Year!

There are always those outliers that defy the odds, there will also be the one that follows all the data and will die early of natural causes, but the majority is what to expect.

You can't outrun genetics, and some defy every "rule for longevity". My mother was health centric most of her years, very social. Being a caregiver for her husband with dementia cut her life short by at least 10 years. Stress, lack of sleep...

They FINALLY start getting to the point around 3:45. (you're welcome...) A lot of bland. A direct quote. "I know you're heard this before..." Nothing really ground breaking here. Most people are aware of these things already. This is more like a campaign speech than it is an education in longevity...

It was great seeing you do your thing outside👍! Hope to see more like that, maybe even some simple follow-along video ( golf, bike, beach walk, etc). Very pertinent topic. Lifespan in the US has actually dropped a small amount over the last few years as Medicare costs skyrocket. People have way more control over their health, than they often admit to.

The life expectancy of 77 is for a newborn baby. It includes the risk of dying as a teenage driver, drug overdose, childbirth, and industrial accidents. These cause death prior to presenters' 67 years old. The CDC estimates life expectancy of a 57 y/o male in USA is 22.71 years.

The real question is what is your quality of life after you turn 70 . . . I'm six months away from that event. True, I retired at age 59 when I obtained a certain amount of wealth not needing a job or source of that kind of income. But having gone through the military with parts of my body compromised my quality of life is iffy. The intestinal cancer I got at age 64 hasn't returned after having surgery. I'll probably take your advice and start a walking program, like the one I had before Covid.

I have some different thoughts about longevity than seems mainstream. First I think there are two factors, frailty and disease. The average number of 77 is completely meaningless in my opinion. I made a post about this. The mean frailty age is about 89/90 and has a tight distribution. You can do a VO2 max test and estimate the maximum possible lifespan. My baseline VO2 max is below average so it is unlikely that I will live after 86. If I get a disease I will die sooner. I don’t bother seeing the doctor because I know due to lack of talent I am sure I will have bad blood work and you can’t fix low talent with drugs. Unlike everyone else I have the opposite problem of being unable to gain weight no matter how much I eat. I am currently 160lbs at 5-10 at 67 years old and achieving that takes two to three hours of strength training most everyday. Without that I would weigh 140-150. Extremely weak and skinny.

Okay, I am concerned that people do not think, there is anything they can do to improve their health. There are many things. Just walking 30 minutes a day will improve your health. Adding 30 minutes of weight training twice a week will also improve your longevity. You do not have to do hours in the gym. Try to eat 4 servings of fresh veggies, and 4 servings of fresh fruit a day. The key is fresh. Fruit juices do not count. There is too much sugar in them. Avoid processed food as much as possible. And then of course, the well known habits, quit smoking, keep alcohol to a minimum. Try to sleep 6-8 hours a night. Finally, have friends and family. Laugh and enjoy life.
@lorettacaputo69978 сағат бұрын
Eating oatmeal and drinking orange juice??? Give me a break. Doctors say "Eat less, exercise more....blah blah blah" Empty words if you don't have specifics Just give up processed foods, go low carb / high fat. Sugar and processed carbs are killing us one bite at a time and it starts at a young age. If you go to the average health care professional you will only get empty words based on the mythology of nutritional health and the result will be prescriptions for a cholesterol lowering drug. If you don't think that type 2 diabetes is a problem, watch out for dementia now considered Type 3 diabetes.

The Copenhagen City Heart Study (CCHS) out of Denmark demonstrated that playing tennis may actually extend your lifespan by 9.7 years. They began with a group of 20,000 healthy people in the early 1990s. In 2017, there were 8,577 subjects who were still in the study. This gave them sufficient data (25 years) to conclude: Tennis: 9.7 years Badminton: 6.2 years Soccer: 4.7 years Cycling: 3.7 years Swimming: 3.4 years Jogging: 3.2 years Calisthenics: 3.1 years Health club: 1.5 years I wish they studied on table tennis players because it's easier for seniors to play than playing tennis.

Oh Boy, today I was worrying If I might get old anyways because of pollution. I moved two years ago into a big town to be closer to my family and my work. Before that I lived in a really quiet and peaceful little village, surrounded by nature for 30 years Now in this town I live alongside a big street and today just for fun I counted the busses (really old Diesel...) passing my window. It had been 96 in 8 hours!!! And it was only afteroon. Not to mention the hundreds of private cars which can't be count. This is horrible and I read that it can cause a lot of medical problems. So, although I eat healthy, very rarely drink alcohol, don't smoke, I don't know what will happen to my health....But I can only do, what I can do. And your tips are really important and they remind me to go for a walk more often and maybe try to start a Gym membership.....

Love most of your advise, but you should do a bit more research regarding diet, Metabolic health is the most critical aspect of your physical health, and your advise misses this, most people cannot eat a high carb diet while maintaining metabolic health especially as we age. Most cancer is caused by metabolic issues, not genetic
